The last day of Summer Vacation.
I stood from afar as I slurped from my drink, my eyes just focusing on things that didn't matter. I groaned internally, I was supposed to be having fun, it was the last day of Summer Vacation – but no, here I was all by myself – just thinking about that stupid jerk.
My 'oh' so friends begged and cried for me to come, so here I was. The music blasted loudly in the background, the salty wind mixed with the ocean waves crashing against the rocks could be heard as it caressed the shore.
The soft melody of cold water played, the fire erupting as they made a bonfire.
A lot of people were here, more than I expected. If I knew, I would have stayed home. I was ignoring someone in particular and I knew very well that he would be here tonight. Sadly, we lived in a small town; I was bound to see him whether I liked it or not.
Going to the same school didn't help either, I would see him either way. But for now, I was saved. Surprisingly, my eyes didn't catch his yet and I was happy for that. I hope he doesn't come.
But when was luck ever on my side? "Alexandra, you're here! Alexandra?" I snapped out of it as I turned around to stare at my dearest friend Zoe, the fact that I didn't hear her coming or talking to me means that I was deep in thoughts.
I hate being caught off guard, it makes me a target and also weak.
When am I going to stop thinking about him?
Never…A voice whispered in the back of my head and I knew that she was right, and I hated it. "I've been calling you for hours like an idiot!" She laughed loudly at my blushing state and I pinned my lips into a thin line, it wasn't funny. "What or who were you thinking about?" She put emphasis on the 'who' and I shrugged my shoulders uncaring, slurping from my drink as I looked everywhere but her eyes.
"I won't say thinking precisely, more like hoping." I rolled my eyes with a deep hopefully sigh, glancing away only for my eyes to catch his who casually looked my way.
Shit, I looked away a little too late, my chest heaving up and down as my heart started to beat fast against my rib cage, stupid! I screamed internally at myself, of course he'd be here. My hopes were all in vain. The King is the spirit of the party, he needs to bless us with his presence.
I wanted to barf, that asshole. I hope he trips into the bonfire and burn himself to death but of course, that won't be happening anytime soon because again – luck wasn't on my side.
But then again, a girl can only hope right?
"What is he doing here?" Zoe stared at him with pure disgust on her face as she gave Maximinus Arden a side glance, rolling her eyes as she looked away. "If he wasn't the Alpha, I would have kicked his ass for what he put you through. Son of a..."
I cut my best friend who was ready to grace us with her filthy vocabulary, "Don't worry about him, only one more year to go and I'm done seeing his face." I groaned, slurping from my drink.
"Hola chicas, what's new?" Chloe, who also happened to be Zoe's twin sister popped out of nowhere with a drink in her hand and lipstick smudged. She had a grin from ear to ear, her white pearl teeth on full display as she unknowingly gave us a joker smile.
We laughed at her, enjoying ourselves. She was so clueless about it and that made us laugh harder, making her shot us a confused glare. "What? Why are you two laughing at me?" I choked out of breath, not being able to breathe properly, Zoe leaning against me breathlessly as we laughed uncontrollably with tears streaming down our face.
"You have…" I coughed up, gasping and clutching at Zoe as I tried to speak up but couldn't. I burst out into laughter, slapping my knee as I gasped continuously. "Your face!" She frowned, touching her face until she reached her lips, feeling something sticky.
Her cheeks bright red.
At that, Zoe and I completely lost it, we were practically rolling on the white sand as we continued to laugh our asses off. "It's not funny! Stop laughing." My chest heaved as I tried to calm down my throbbing heart. "We should probably go apologize." Zoe nodded her head with a laugh, "Yes we should."
Zoe and Chloe were fraternal twins, but strangely enough – they do look a lot like identical twins.
Zoe was tall with a slim but yet curvy figure, not too thin or thick. Her red hair cascading passed her shoulders down her mid-back, her caramel brown eyes big and round with a button nose and plumped lips. Zoe was a party people, she enjoys being crazy and wild. She was the 'to go to' friend if you want to make bad decisions.
Chloe was a whole different person. She was shorter than Zoe, her dark brown hair shoulder length. Her caramel brown eyes were big and round with a button nose just like Zoe and plumped lips. If it wasn't for the colored hair and length, you'd probably confuse them with one another. Chloe was shy, quiet most of the time, reserved and timid. She's the friend you'd go to if you want to make good decisions.
"Oops, sorry. I didn't see you there, my bad." I gasped in shock when Lucy bumped into me and splashed her drink on my dress, my teeth clenching hard as I stared up at her, my hands dusting the droplets off my dress.
I curled up my fingers into fists as she walked by, wanting to turn around and break her face but I took a deep breath.
Always be the bigger person.
Lucy, Lucy, Lucy. Where do I start with her? Yes, she slept with the man I thought would be my mate. The signs were there, had believed them but all of that changed when he did the unthinkable, making my anger for him fuel more than it already was.
A mate was your soulmate, someone you'd spent the rest of your life with. I had believed that he was my mate, the feelings were there.
I knew it deep within, I even gave myself to him because I knew, all of that broke me when I saw him in bed with her, breaking my illusions and at the same time, breaking me.
"She's such a bitch, I can't stand her. The funny thing of it all is that she thinks that just because she found her way into an Alpha's bed, meant that she was above us all." Zoe fumed, her eyes glaring at Lucy's retreating back, "None of this would be happening if he hadn't slept with her."
"Don't worry about her, he can have her. They are both cut with the same pair of scissors. I'll go change, be right back." Heading towards the direction of the parking lot, I made my way up the stairs and towards my car.
I unlocked my car and got in the backseat, removing my wet clothes as I put on my bikini and threw over my cover up. My hair was brought up into a messy ponytail and my wet clothes in my duffel bag.
When I was ready, I got out of my car and locked the doors, heading back to the beach. I walked passed the drinks and made myself one, looking for my target – I headed straight towards her. Bumping against her accidentally on purpose, I splashed her with my drink.
"Oops, I'm so clumsy." I smiled bittersweet, showing my white pearl teeth as I shrugged my shoulders innocently, bumping my shoulder hard against hers as I walked away.
"You bitch! You all saw that right? She totally did that on purpose." Lucy made a tantrum but I ignored her, walking away unbothered as I made my way towards the beach – away from the party.
I brushed my hands up and down my cold arms, my barefoot walking on the wet sand. The water wrapped around my ankles as my toes splashed the water around.
If only I had not met him, things would have been so much easier. I glanced up, stopping dead in tracks when I saw a figure coming from the opposite direction. My eyes caught his, so many emotions ran through my mind, it's been a while since I've been this close to him, been keeping my distance for my own sake.
He stepped forward and I stepped back, "Alexandra." My hands curled up into fists when he called out my name, how dare he? How dare he call my name? How dare he even use his lips to say my name when he betrayed me?
"Leave my name out of your mouth." I spat out through my gritted teeth as my eyes burned deeply into his. "You have no right to mention my name nor speak to me after what you did."
"I'm sorry." Sorry? Sorry? All he can say is sorry? I let out a soft breath as I shook my head, glancing up. "Sorry won't heal what you scarred Max. Don't you ever, mention my name again! You and I, are done beyond repair. Do us both a favor and stay away from me this senior year."
"Alexandra wait!" I rushed back to the party, bumping my way out of the crowd. "Alexandra! Where are you going?" Zoe asked as she saw me walk by, but I only hurried my pace as I made my way towards the parking lot, unlocking the doors of my car.
I opened the door only for it to be slammed close and I was whirled around, a hot mouth against mine. A burst of sparks went off between our lips, making me want more.
This wasn't our first kiss but it was more than I ever expected, my whole body felt like it was on fire. The same feelings that got me mixed up into thinking that maybe me and him could be mates. But I was wrong, I was just a play thing.
Someone who he could easily manipulate the way he wanted because as always – the naive Alexandra falls right into the trap, landing accidentally on his bed. He knew very well how to play his cards, how to seduce me.
And as crazy as it seems, even though this ran through my head every damn time. I still get manipulated every time I have him close, that's why I opted to ignore him and avoid him as much as I could.
All these months I've been trying to avoid these feelings I still had for him but he just had to come here and kiss me.
Stupid Alpha!
I pulled away from him, his grin falling off his face when I wiped my mouth furiously, "Listen to me and listen to me very careful, if you put your hands on me again, I will chop them off." I pushed him and get inside of my car, starting the engine.
He backed away from the parking lot as he watched me drove away, my fingers smearing away the tears as I wrapped my fingers around the steer wheel tightly.
Stupid, stupid, stupid!
I swerved the car to the side of the road as I slammed my fist on the steer wheel, cursing loudly as I ran a rough hand through my hair, losing the hair tie.
I leaned down on the seat, breathing out heavily. My fingers couldn't help but trace my lips as I closed my eyes, his soft lips on mine as images from our previous times flashed through my mind. I snapped my eyes open, pressing down the gas as I hit the road again, going home.
"Why home so soon?" My mother asked me the moment I walked in, but I headed straight towards the stairs, rushing upstairs as I slammed the door of my room closed.
I slumped on my bed, the tears soon following as I hugged my pillow. Stupid Alpha! You're here to cause trouble again and I'm not here for it, not this time around.
