-The following text was discovered beneath the ruins of a small town on the island of Valdosta.-
"Our story begins with the Elder. An ancient being who once crafted all of creation. With her arms, she created world after world. Each one more beautiful and complex than the one that came before. In the end, the world of Gaol was her most perfect creation.
It was also her last.
Yet the Elder did not craft Gaol alone. At her side, until the end, her faithful companion, the dragon Segovax dwelled. At the Elder's passing, Segovax devised a plan. He would share this world with others. He opened gates to other worlds, and filled Gaol with all sorts of beings. Humans, elves, dwarves, faeries, giants, and all manner in between would live together in harmony. For a time, there was peace, and the dragon who gave these people a home was revered as a god before retiring from the world to slumber.
But Segovax was not the only god.
Others set their sights upon Gaol. Jealous, greedy, conquering gods who desired to take the world for their own. They were warriors. Plotters. Killers. Each one building an army, gathering followers of the races upon Gaol, and making their bid for the world. God fought god. Mortal fought mortal. And a schism of hatred and violence tore across the once unified world.
In the chaos, the War of the Gods erupted.
Here, in the Eastern Archipelago, a god named Verum Iudex descended to make slaves of the people who lived in this place. They refused, and in response the jealous god tore a country asunder. Death and demons reigned over what was once a sanctuary from the hellish torment of war. In this act, the god made it known that nowhere was safe. The world of Gaol, in anguish and despair, cried out in pain.
And Segovax woke.
With his might, he banished the gods, all of them, from the land of Gaol. None would ever set foot upon this world again. It was a gift. A gift to those seeking peace.
However, that peace would not return. Segovax, seeing his mother's perfect world so defiled, returned beneath its surface and left its people to their own devices. No god would ever interfere with Gaol again. Not even Segovax himself.
Yet, before he left, he shared a promise. One he told to only a privileged few. A time is coming when someone will be born to stand against the gods again. A time of strife and fear, but also one of hope and courage. On that day, a hero is coming. A savior.
One who will change the world of Gaol. Forever."
