A week since Charles Choi's defeat, normality had returned to Yuji and his companions.
Hobin had returned home, satisfied that he had been able to help rescue his friend.
Daniel and his allies were going about their own business.
Hollis and Raian had already returned to Japan, leaving Yuji behind to sort out some unfinished business in Korea.
Yuji accompanied Gaeul throughout her treatment, together with her father. The girl recovered very well, and it wasn't long before she was finally allowed to return home.
She had seemed rather quiet during her days at the hospital, and although she didn't seem bothered by his presence, Yuji knew that it was unusual for her to be so quiet.
Except for a few questions about the reasons for her kidnapping, she didn't say much.
Yuji was worried.
"How are you feeling?"
And as they walked to her house, he decided to understand what was bothering her so much.
After all, she was a great friend to him.
"..."
But after asking, he watched her move her eyes to the floor, the girl remaining silent.
And with a sigh, he returned his attention to the road. Although he wanted to talk about what was bothering her so much, he didn't want to pressure her, after all, being held captive must have been quite traumatic.
"It's okay."
With a small, warm smile, he ruffled her hair, a gesture he used to make when he first met her.
"Let's go home."
Saying it with a familiar caution in his tone, he continued on his way alongside the girl.
"..."
But Gaeul, while walking beside her, caught her eye when she stopped suddenly, something that made Yuji turn to look at her.
"I..."
And when she hesitantly opened her lips, Yuji realized what was going to happen.
"I was scared."
An outburst.
"In that dark and dirty place, I was afraid." The girl looked down at her hands and bit her lips, clearly troubled by the memories of that place. "When I called for help, no one came. When I begged to be saved, I couldn't hear anything."
Yuji watched her with a compassionate gaze. He could understand her, he knew it shouldn't have been easy for her.
Gaeul was a normal girl, and far removed from the world he lived in. Death, torture and much worse were quite common for someone like Yuji.
But it wasn't for Gaeul.
It was understandable that she should be so shaken by this. Trapped and not knowing what fate had in store for her, it was normal for her to be so shaken.
He could understand that, so he just kept silent, listening to every word that came out of her lips.
"I thought I was going to die."
The girl felt her fingers trembling, her watery eyes turning to Yuji in front of her.
"I don't want to go through that again." She finally said in a weakened voice, tears streaming down her cheeks in a clear sign of her feelings of helplessness. "I don't want to..."
"And you won't."
And Yuji, seeing that this was the moment for him to finally speak, approached the girl with a serious tone. "I won't allow this to happen again, understand?"
Pulling her into an embrace, he let their faces come closer, his gaze firmly on the girl's watery eyes.
"I promise I won't let you."
And with those last words, Yuji moved closer. At that point, seeing her in that state put him over the edge. If he had been hesitant before, he wasn't anymore.
Sealing her lips with a kiss, he declared that Gaeul was unquestionably his. He would not allow anything to hurt her, not even God.
He would protect her with everything he had, just as he would protect any of the girls he loved.
That's how he was.
.
After leaving Gaeul at home, Yuji waved goodbye. The girl remained silent, but he was already unable to see the disturbance in her eyes.
In fact, he could now see a peculiar gleam in her eyes, something that made him very curious.
But he didn't think much of it. His work that day was done, and he needed to make preparations for his return to Japan.
According to the information gathered by the Kengan association, something big was about to happen that would shake the world. Yuji didn't want to miss it.
Gaeul was officially his girlfriend now, and he made that clear with that kiss. With Samdak's blessing, he no longer had anything to worry about.
As agreed with the girl's father, Gaeul would move in with him when she finished high school, as long as she called him every day.
Yuji had a year until then, so he wasn't worried about explaining all the workings of his relationship with various girls to her. Perhaps he feared her rejection, but he had the confidence to make things work.
For now, he just wanted to pack his bags.
But as he walked, he couldn't help but feel something strange, a warning sensation that made him frown in annoyance.
It seemed that someone was trying to disturb his evening.
Irritating.
"Hey, you seem to have a great girl, don't you?"
And it didn't take long for that person to reveal himself.
"What do you want?"
But with everything that had happened, Yuji didn't have much patience for new opponents, and turning into an alley next to him, he observed a silhouette leaning against the wall, its face obscured by the shadows of the night.
"Why so aggressive? I just came here to talk."
The figure, stepping out of the shadows, slowly revealed itself as it walked up to stand in front of Yuji.
"So you're the kid who's making a mess... To tell you the truth, it doesn't seem like a big deal."
With a height that surpassed Yuji's, and a muscular body that towered over the boy, the man looked quite intimidating with a disdainful smile on his lips.
But the young fighter wasn't intimidated, height wasn't something that could make him back down, even more so when his opponent had the look of a dead fish, as if he'd been awake for weeks.
Looking closely at the man, Yuji could tell that he was strong, but at that point, he didn't believe that there was anyone in Korea who could take him on casually.
"Say what you want." Narrowing his eyes, Yuji repeated firmly.
The smile disappeared from the man's lips, an impassive expression forming on his face as he stared at the boy with tired eyes.
"Hey, I thought you'd react better to provocation." The man took a step backwards, stepping back as he ran a hand through his black hair. "But it seems I was wrong. Very well, I'll get straight to the point."
Yuji appreciated that. He had already reached his limit with chatterboxes.
"You know, destroying a group as powerful as Charles Choi's wouldn't be without consequences." The man lifted his chin, a small smile appearing on his lips. "I had some agreements with him, so when he left, I ended up losing a good part of my income, understand?"
Yuji remained silent, his eyes turned upwards so that he could observe the man's face carefully.
"How are you going to make it up to me, kid? After all, I came all the way from Mexico, just to settle this myself." He bent forward slightly, his eyes meeting Yuji's with a dangerous glint. "I'm afraid I might end up staying-"
"Hey."
But as the man spoke, Yuji simply interrupted him, his impassive expression never fading from his face.
"I don't give a damn about your problems."
Grabbing the man's shoulder, Yuji pushed him aside, moving him out of the way.
"I'm not interested in hearing Charles Choi's allies cry. If you want to settle this, do it with him." Turning his head slightly, Yuji faced the man with a dangerous glint in his eyes. "If you look hard enough, you should find his body in some forest out there, but I can't promise it will be in a good state."
Yuji shrugged, starting to walk away, leaving the man staring at his back in dead silence.
"So that's it?" Hearing these words coming from behind his back, Yuji stopped, his eyes narrowing as he turned slightly. "Very well, then."
!
Dodging when an axe threatened to cut him, Yuji turned to see the man holding the melee weapon.
"I'm sure you'll be delicious."
"Weird."
