____Narration____
"I think that's enough for now. The main event will be soon." Erioh's voice seemed to calm Raian, who against his will, contained his bloodlust, this being a signal for Yuji to do the same.
Having listened to the entire conversation, Yuji knew that he could not simply attack Raian, since the Kure clan now held his cousin's life in their hands. Was that a reason to stop him from smashing Raian's skull into the ground? No, since this happening was entirely Kenzo's fault, but if he died, Yamashita would be devastated, and Yuji cared enough about his uncle to control himself.
"President Yamashita, I'm expecting a good fight." With a mocking smile, Erioh turned and began to walk away. "Let's go, Raian."
"Kuhaha! It'll be great to kill someone else like I did that priest." Raian laughed, clearly teasing the two fighters on the scene, who frowned as they listened to him. "And you, kid. You better not lose against Fangs, I want to kill you myself."
Hearing him, Yuji cracked a mocking smile, unaffected by Raian's attempt to threaten him. "Don't break your head about it, you won't even make it to the semifinals."
Raian scoffed at this, turning to leave while waving his middle finger. Yuji watched the two Kure walk away for a few seconds, before turning and walking towards his uncle, who was kneeling, still crushed by the mental torture Raian had imposed on him.
The young man looked at this with concern on his face, and completely ignoring Ohma Tokita, he knelt down in front of his uncle, shaking him by the shoulders and snapping him out of his trance.
Yamashita blinked at his shaking, his eyes landing Yuji for a moment before filling with tears.
"It's all my fault." The man began, his voice failing as his tears began to wet the grass. "If I had been a firm father, a strong man, maybe we could have been a happy family.... If I-if I hadn't been so fearful, maybe I could have been there for you too when your mother was gone."
Yuji was surprised. He hadn't expected that he would suddenly mention something like this, which served to make him quite indecisive about what to say. It was true that as an uncle, Yamashita had not done a very good job, but that really didn't matter to Yuji anymore, since Shisumi had done everything possible to provide him with a happy adolescence. If this were the Yuji from before he jumped into this world, he would surely feel resentment towards the man in front of him for not supporting his nephew, but this was a different Yuji, who despite carrying the memories of the former Yuji, had no grudge held towards Kazuo.
Yamashita had already proven that he truly cared for his nephew, and that for Yuji was more than enough to forgive the man in front of him. Maybe the former Yuji was against his decision, but it didn't really matter, since he owned this body, and this had become his life for a long time.
"Don't blame yourself, Uncle. Kenzo made his own choices, it wasn't your fault." Yuji placed a hand on the man's shoulder, a gentle smile appearing on his lips. "Besides, I forgive you, so don't blame yourself for what happened."
Yamashita could not contain himself, tears streaming from his eyes like a waterfall. For so long he had believed that his nephew had a great grudge against him, but as it turned out, he had inherited his mother's kindness and compassion, and realizing this only served to intensify his crying.
Yuji patted him on the back until he calmed down, which took a while to happen. After about 5 whole minutes, Yamashita finally calmed down, and Yuji left him to have his own thoughts.
"So, you're Kazuo Yamashita's nephew." Ohma, who had been silent during the entire family moment, suddenly commented, Yuji turning to him with a curious look. "I have to admit, you're kind of strong."
The fighter's words carried pride and derision, a trait that Yuji was easily able to identify, his eyebrows raising as he analyzed Ohma for a few seconds.
'Observe.'
[Status]
Name: Ohma Tokita
Age: 28
Strength: XX++
Durability: XX+++
Stamina: XX+
Speed: XXX
Intelligence: XX
Potential: XXX
.
'We are basically matched in attributes, but... Why do I feel that this Ohma is in no way a threat to me?'
Yuji looked at this with strangeness. Normally, when he encountered someone on the same level or higher than him, his senses would immediately alert him, but there was something strange about the Ohma in front of him. Even though he knew through his aura and system that Ohma was strong enough to physically rival him...
Why did his senses not identify him as a threat?
When two powerful felines meet, their instincts immediately alert them of a potential threat, which leaves them on alert and ready for battle.
This worked similarly for more experienced fighters, so it was normal for Yuji's instincts to identify Ohma as a dangerous opponent, but that was not what was happening.
Yuji remembered that due to constant use of the [Advance], Ohma had lost much of his memories, and that included years of training with the Niko style. Did his lack of technique make him so weak that even Yuji's senses refused to see him as a threat? Well, that was the young fighter's guess, after all, even a powerful feline can starve to death if it doesn't know how to hunt.
'By the way... Why has his potential changed? I'm sure it was in SSS two years ago.' It was strange that the potential would change, since after using [Observe ] thousands of times, he soon noticed that potential was an unchanging attribute that could not be improved by training, and not even over time. He had concluded that people were born with a potential that could never be changed.
But seeing Ohma exhibiting an improvement in the attribute, Yuji realized that there was more to this than he had previously concluded.
'Maybe a physical limitation changes the potential? That would explain why people with physical disabilities always have such a low potential. Probably if someone unable to walk were cured, their potential would increase.'
His system was combat-oriented, and did not encompass other aspects of life that were not related to fighting. Cooking, drawing, singing, none of these skills became part of the system, since they could not be used in combat. Even his intelligence only improved if he learned more aspects related to combat, which made it useless to read hundreds of books that were not related to martial arts. He had learned this after spending an entire month absorbing countless book contents, only for his attribute to show no sign of improvement.
Fortunately, even with intelligence increasing only if he learned more about subjects that would help him improve his combat, when the attribute evolved, his mind improved in all aspects, not just combat. This removed his doubt as to why it was called intelligence, and not combat intelligence.
Returning to the subject, it was normal that someone unable to fight had little potential, for obvious reasons.
'I see... So there is something with Ohma's body that is limiting her potential, but that is being corrected over time...'
Yuji looked Ohma up and down for anything unusual. Even though he did it quickly, a few seconds were more than enough for him to notice something.
'There is an instability in your posture, as if your spine had a deviation that forced your body to find a way to support it.' Yuji sighed as he realized this. From what he remembered, Ohma would make it to the finals, so this limitation would be gone by the end of the tournament, so it wasn't something for him to mind.
"You haven't been very strong since the last time." Yuji crossed his arms as he cracked a small mocking smile. "Just don't lose until the final."
Ohma blinked a few times as he listened to the young man, his face filling with confusion as he stared at Yuji for several seconds.
"Have we met before?" Ohma suddenly asked, Yuji pinching his nose as he understood what that meant.
'How many times did he use [Advance] in those two years?'
