Chapter 58 - Jasem and the others (1)

After thanking the guard, Connor left the gate camp and stepped into the Town. Peddlers and small stalls with either foods, drinks, weapons, armor and even small miscellaneous items were everywhere.

The sword Connor had was something not just anyone could get so he ignored the weapons stalls and looked at the Armors. Although this was the Commoner's market, where people just sold whatever crap they found, Connor still took a look, hoping to find a hidden gem somewhere.

"Hey young man" An old man approached him with a smile. He wore simple black pants and a shirt with a jacket that was so worn out that the leather started peeling off. "I'm selling at a cheaper price than anyone here, come take a look, i'll give you an even cheaper prices!"

Connor, amused by the man's attempt at persuasion, approached the table with some scrap Armors. There were some leather shoes, gloves and even a couple chest pieces.

"The chest pieces are for 100 Gold and the rest are all 50 Gold each" He said, inviting him to look at them.

Connor obliged and took a chest piece to inspect. The armor piece had so many defects in its design, obviously made by an amateur. Not only that, but it was obviously worn out, most likely used until it barely had any life left in it. The armor would most likely tear the moment a simple attack lands on it.

Shaking his head, Connor put it back and was about to walk away when he felt someone grab him by his armor from the back. "Where do you think you're going? How can you just throw me your garbage and take my armor? Is it because I look weak? Do you…" The man kept going, raising his voice which grabbed other people's attention. Connor just zoned out for a second, thinking that maybe he made a mistake somehow and subconsciously threw the armor into his Inventory instead of putting it back, but no. Looking at the stall, the armor he inspected was right there with everything else, which made him even more confused.. "... Give me back my armor or pay for it young man!" The man finished his little scene and stood there, looking at Connor's confused face.

"What the hell are you talking about? I inspected that piece of shit and put it back" Connor said, looking around. He thought that maybe someone would have seen it happen and put this man in his place but when he looked, people were either smirking or ignoring the situation all together. "A scam!" He muttered, finally putting two and two together. The reason it took him this long in the first place was because this never happened to him before, or to be more precise, he never had something like this happen where people all around either knew about it or ignored it, meaning they were used to it.

"You think I'm blind?" The old man yelled again, spit flying out of his mouth. "Ok then, TOMMY!" He suddenly yelled out someone's name and the next second a man came out from one of the houses. He was nearly 7 feet tall, slightly overweight but muscles could be easily seen here and there. "This man just stole from me" The old man said with a grin. "Tommy here strengthened himself a few times with the Tablets, do you still want to continue or just pay up?"

"There are guards over there" Connor pointed out. He didn't understand what made this old man confident enough to pull something like this.

"The guards? HAH!" The old man laughed. "The guards don't give a shit about what happens in the lower area, so forget about asking for help, it'll be cheaper if you just pay me for the armor!"

"Nah!" Connor answered, removing the old man's grasp on his armor with force, almost accidentally breaking his arm.

"ARGH! You dare?" The old man yelled and Tommy, the big boy, started walking towards Connor aggressively.

"The moment I step into this shithole and I'm met with trouble… *sigh*" Connor didn't wish to entertain these people much longer, his eyes turned serious and he moved.

At one moment, he was standing in front of the old man who was backing away, giving way for Tommy, and the next, Connor was gone. At least that was what people around them could see.

*ARGH!*

Tommy, the man who was confidently walking with a goal, was sent back flying towards the house he came out of. Sounds of things crashing and breaking could be heard from inside. Connor stood in Tommy's spot before he flew with his hand reaching out as if he just punched something.

*Silence*

Before this happened, people were either murmuring and laughing as if this was going to be a good show and the next everyone was silent.

"A warrior!" someone spoke and the next thing people started leaving, as if they did not want anything to do with this.

Connor did not care, the only person he wanted was the old man so he started walking towards him with the other looking at him with a panicked expression. "Sir, please listen, I can explain!" The old man started speaking, but quickly realized Connor was not walking towards him but the table with his wares.

Connor couldn't just beat up an old man, so he went for the next best thing. He started grabbing the armor pieces from the table and with his monstrous strength tore them apart.

"N..no!" The old man tried to stop him but there was nothing he could do as he watched everything he had get destroyed and thrown on the ground in front of him.

Connor held no sympathy for the old man, as if it was the old him from when he first came to this world he would have been beaten up and his gold taken away from him.

"Know your place, trash!" Connor spat out a stereotypical villain phrase and started walking away as the old man started trying to salvage whatever he could from the torn pieces on the ground.

"That was interesting!" A man spoke when Connor walked past him, he wore a dark robe with armor underneath, looking like your typical adventurer.

"What was?"

"You could have just left it there after what most likely was a life altering injury you've caused the big guy, but no, you still destroyed the old man's wares, probably all he had" The man had a scar going down his left cheek with blue eyes and an average face.

"And?" Connor asked, looking at the man straight in the eye.

"Don't get me wrong friend, but most people in this damn town like to act like heroes or good people, which irritates me, but seeing you in action just brightened my day" The man smiled.

"What?" Connor was confused. He did not know what the hell he was talking about.

"Because of the Monastery running around this place, people like to act all nice and sweet so they're not taken over the smallest shit, but you don't care… Or you didn't know?"

"They're going to take me because of that?" Connor asked.

"They take people for even looking at them wrong, saying they have to come with them for correction exercises or behavior adjustment courses back at the Monastery" The man explained.

"What the fuck? What about that old man? What he just did didn't seem like something new"

"What use would an old goat be? Especially since his body isn't compatible with the energy from the tablets" The man explained. "Not all people are, and others can only take a limited amount"

"Why is the Monastery taking so many people?" Connor asked.

"Not sure, but they're increasing their collecting these days, since some bigwig from the mainland came" The man continued. "I'm Jasem by the way, how about we go for a drink and we can talk?"

"A drink? At this hour?" Connor asked.

"A drink or some food, it doesn't matter, but we need to leave this place quickly" Jasem said, looking at the old man.

Connor turned around and looked over, seeing the old man point towards him to a couple of what looked like Warriors of the Order, but they're armor was gray. "Are those Warriors of the Order? Why would they care about a small dispute like this?" Connor asked, his hand on the handle of his weapon. If they were a First Order or above, he wouldn't be able to run and needed to fight before more reinforcements arrived.

"No no, they're not Warriors of the Order, but soon to be" Jasem said as he started walking, followed by Connor. "They're like in training Warriors of the Order from the Monastery, but still a handful so follow me" Jasem started going into alleyways and turning around corners until they walked from behind a tavern with a giant board in front of it.

"Alright, how about that meal then?" Jasem asked.

"Sure" Connor said as they both walked into the Tavern with a beautiful lady standing at the counter cleaning some mugs. They both sat at a random table and Jasem looked at Connor with a smirk.

"So which country are you from? You look American, I'm from North Africa!"

"WHAT?"
