Chapter 4 - Dream?

Along his walk, Connor managed to find a few plants that looked useful, although he knew nothing about them or what they did, but he assumed that someone might and if possible get some money or use them for something.

As Connor walked, he saw some hedgehog looking creature, a little too big for comfort, but did not look too threatening. He approached it from behind as it fed on a human corpse, the poor guy survived the crash but not this thing apparently.

With a quick swing, aiming directly at its head, Connor managed to get himself an instant kill and what he hoped was something edible. He slowly removed the spikes using his machete and carried it with his free hand.

As he walked, Connor saw more and more creatures on the path, which he tried his best to avoid. He was successful with some while had to fight others, which was not that difficult. For some reason, Connor was not feeling exhausted at all, he indeed was at the start but the more he walked and killed the less he felt like he wanted to sleep. It was weird but, maybe it's just adrenaline? Who knows.

A cave appeared to the side of the path, which led to god knows where. Connor was unsure of what to do. On one hand creatures were coming towards the smell of blood, slowly more and more were appearing on the path and Connor was not one to take risks, but on the other the cave did not look like a place people would just walk into, especially when he could faintly see some light inside. Maybe it's humans you'd think, but with how things were going so far Connor did not like those odds, especially with the location of the cave.

'Whatever, maybe I'll finally get lucky' Connor thought, taking a few careful steps into the cave. He could hear some rummaging, which made him raise his machete even further.. And as expected, Connor saw 3 short humanoids, sitting around a fire cooking what looked like rat meat. Connor did not approach though, as with the light he can clearly see their faces. Their skin looked moldy green with large zits here and there, they had flat noses with large lips containing razor sharp teeth. Connor saw them bite into the bone of the poor rat as if it was butter. "Nope" Connor thought, turning around and heading right out.

ROGH!

With his heart dropping right back to his anus, Connor saw another one of those creatures standing at the entrance of the cave, looking at him with its large eyes.

WOSH!

Without any hesitation, Connor started rushing the creature with his machete ready. He knew very well that if he does not kill that thing and the others notice, he will be outnumbered and definitely killed. It saw the human running towards it and reached to its back, grabbing a scythe.

KIRK!

It yelled something before it started running towards him as well. Their weapons met and to Connor's surprise, it did not lack any strength as he could feel it. With a kick, the creature fell back, but not long enough for Connor to stab it, it quickly jumped back and attacked again.

The fight did not seem to be easy, but if it was a 1v1 Connor had confidence, unfortunately though the other 3 heard the commotion and started heading over, wielding their weapons and yelling some incomprehensible words.

"This doesn't look good" Connor muttered as he started striking without stopping. He needed to kill the one in front of him before they came or he would be surrounded, becoming dinner for the night.

The creature was slowly losing its momentum as more and more strikes were landing. Dirty red blood started to appear all over it and finally, a decisive blow landed on its neck, spraying blood everywhere. Connor did not wait for a second longer before jumping over the creature and running away.

He ignored a couple of those large hedgehogs before finally reaching the end of the path. A house stood, looking like a palace in Connor's eyes. Not that it was big at all but it was the first real sign that people were around. He quickly approached it, slowly peeking inside finding no one as the place was in a mess. The area looked abandoned, as if something had driven the occupants away in a hurry. Some tables were flipped over with some broken chairs and a few blood splatters. As Connor investigated further, he found out that the blood seemed aged, so whatever happened here happened some time ago.

"Now it's looting time" Connor did not hesitate to rummage through the house. He found a grog bottle, some coins here and there and a broom. There was a locked chest which was disappointing, but fear not, as after a thorough search Connor found a key underneath the bed, inside the chest was a saw, some plants, 25 gold coins and a frying pan, which was a lucky hit.

"Alright, time to summon my inner Gordon Ramsay" Connor said as he laid the hedgehog on a table, starting to dress it. Although he lacked seasoning, it did not matter.

Connor felt full and happy. He locked the door and barricaded the windows with the wood all around before jumping onto the bed, his machete right next to him.

"Let's get some sleep in and continue exploring tomorrow" Connor was not that tired physically, but mentally he was exhausted. Transmigrating into a new world, working his ass off on the inquisition ship and nearly dying over and over again while fighting his way through. Connor sighed, his eyes slowly shutting before he drifted into the land of dreams, or so he thought. The moment he fell asleep, a sudden jolt woke him up. He reached to his right, searching for his machete, but nothing was there.

Splash!

A crash was heard, as if a glass cup fell over.

"Connor, what are you doing?" A gentle voice was heard. Connor finally managed to get a good look at his surroundings, his heart beating faster and faster. "Lisa?" He asked, looking at the people staring at him. "I…i'm back on the ship?" He frowned, the feeling of confusion growing further. "Was it a dream?" He thought.

"No.. no. That was way too real to be a dream"
