Chapter 15 - No Differences

Luke and Charlotte boarded an armored vehicle and the driver was none other than Charlotte herself. Luke who initially thought that this girl named Charlotte was just a spoiled noble girl turned out to be not that kind of person.

"So, where are we headed now?" Luke asked once again the girl who was driving this armored car.

"To the south wall and it looks like the Captain is there too."

"Why is it just the two of us going there Kento and how about your brother?"

"They've been there before, it's just us."

During the ride Luke looked out the windows of this armored vehicle and at the magnificent skyscrapers and people walking around without thinking about what was going on right now.

"You know, this is the first time I've seen these magnificent buildings up close I usually see them from a distance."

"Before you joined here where did you live Luke?"

"10 years ago I lived in district 25 with my family and 5 years ago they broke into the wall and took my whole family and kidnapped my sister at that time." Luke said that while still watching the skyscrapers and the pedestrians who didn't care about the current situation.

"I apologize for offending such a sensitive matter." Charlotte said in a slightly sad tone.

"Don't think about it anymore, it's the past that made me survive in this world. However, it seems these people don't care in the slightest about the threat of vampires who might attack them." Luke replied in a low tone because of the attitude of people who were indifferent without caring about the current situation.

"They put their trust in the walls that surround every district in this city and the troops that guard them." Charlotte replied to Luke's words in a cold tone and she felt that it had something to do with her peerage.

"To me it's not trusting but seeing us vampire hunters as guard dogs that are useful as livestock keepers and they feed us through taxes. While they enjoy life behind the walls without thinking about any threats that are out there."

Luke said very condescending words for those who could still laugh and sleep without thinking about the sacrifices of the soldiers who protected their lives. On the way to the south wall the two of them didn't talk much and Luke only looked at these majestic towering buildings.

"We're almost there Luke." Charlotte and Luke replied immediately looking forward and saw the south wall standing tall.

Charlotte parked the armored vehicle and the two of them rushed to the top of the wall seeing the current state of danger. When they reached the top of the wall, they saw a towering city that was already covered with grass that was almost the same height as the buildings.

"Oh you've finally come too." Kento replied to the both of them and Luke looked at Kento with a slightly annoyed look because the man seemed relaxed when the two of them dueled with wooden swords.

"Hey kid don't look at me with those eyes… I'm a good person who teaches you how to fight and you're not thanking to this Master Kento but instead looking at me with such emotion." Kento said to Luke. He wasn't wrong to say that but he felt very frustrated. The thing that frustrated him was the difference in their strength. Luke took a deep breath and exhaled a few times.

"Thank you for your teachings." Luke replied with a cold expression on his face.

"Well then... If you want to spar again, I'm ready to be your opponent at any time, kid."

"Alright, don't talk too much, look over there." Captain Daniel replied to the both of them and they looked at Captain Daniel's index finger.

"Why is the vehicle fog so thick? Luke asked all his squad members.

"Lich… or in some other language they are humans who failed to turn into vampires and their only purpose in life is to prey on humans." Captain Daniel said.

The vehicle signaled to us at the wall to help them. However, Luke noticed around him that all the members who were standing on the south wall were just silent, both from the vampire hunter squad and also from the wall guard squad just standing silently without saying a word. Why do they just stand still when the vehicle contains people who need help from them? Is there no more humanity in this world as if this is just an ordinary spectacle for the troops guarding this wall?

"What is this!!" Instantly all eyes turned to Luke caused by his scream.

"Why are we just sitting here in silence doing nothing, huh?" Luke continued with emotion.

"Shut up Ainswald." Captain Daniel said to him.

"How could I not be silent seeing the pathetic actions of all of you!!" I replied to the Captain's words.

"Oi can you be polite to your boss, brat?" Kento said so while holding Luke's robe collar.

"Uncle, what did you actually join the vampire hunters squad for? To be petrified by doing nothing? Can't you see they're asking for help? Why are we all here just standing there like idiots?" When Luke said that Kento hit Luke in the face and made him lean against the wall.

"If you don't want to get into trouble, shut up. It's also for your own good." Kento said that to me while rubbing the left hand he used to hit me.

"Hahaha… For my good? No kidding."

"Ainswald you are relieved of duty today. Don't let me see you around the wall."

"Okay captain." Luke said so and started walking towards the stairs.

Just as he was about to descend the first step his footsteps stopped.

"All of us within these walls are not much different from cattle waiting to be slaughtered."

After saying that Luke started to continue his way down the stairs one by one.

"Damn that uncle's punch hurts so bad." Luke said that while holding his face that was hit by the uncle while looking up at the towering wall.

For him there is no point living in this cage when humans have the opportunity to fight and get their freedom snatched away by the creature called the vampire.

"So what are you going to do now Luke?"

Charlotte asked Luke who was still looking at this wall while rubbing the face that was hit by Kento.

"Charlotte…"

Luke looked at him and he looked at the man with a questioning face because Luke just stared at him silently.
