Chapter 35 - 35. Meeting the Governor

They put us in a prison, and Virtine was taken away.

About half an hour later, the prison gates slowly opened.

Footsteps walked down the hallway, getting closer to our cell.

They murmured indistinct, mixed sounds that would seem to ordinary people to be meaningless.

Lair tries to crawl closer to me, her limbs chained to the far end of the room.

"Do you understand what they are saying? Looks like they're using a password?"

"Maybe. I understand a few words, and if what I hear is true, then…"

The crowd appeared before us, only a few arms apart.

"Then you're in danger, Raymond."

Eliane, the woman in front of me, is a Grand Noble, Governor of Reitina and Saneris.

One of the Six Elites of the Holy Kingdom, of Pierre's bloodline with distinctive two-colored eyes.

Blonde hair, slim figure, as tall as me, and breasts that show off her sexy yet discreet lines, Eliane has changed a lot since we last met.

"What do you mean? What are you going to do to Ray?"

Eliane turned to look at Lair intently.

"How long are you going to keep your intentions of harming him?"

Lair showed her confusion, she looked at Eliane with exasperated eyes.

"Don't talk nonsense, you know nothing about me! Why should I try to harm him!"

The atmosphere suddenly fell silent, the four eyes met.

Behind Eliane was a man with black hair slicked back, dark circles under his eyes, a lowered face and a sullen body.

He was wearing a shabby military uniform, and his demeanor didn't look like he'd been trained by someone like Eliane.

"This girl didn't lie, let them go and led them up to the prayer room, Merlock." – Eliane broke the silence.

The woman left quietly, then the young man took a key from his pocket, opened the prison gate, and unchained Lair.

He let out a long sigh, his breath heavy as if he had been holding his breath all this while.

"Are you two acquaintances of Lord Eliane?"

Lair answered him.

"Who knows that weird bitch! Only Ray has anything to do with her."

"We've known each other since we were kids..."

He looked at me strangely when he heard that.

Merlock led us out of the prison.

The prison was located quite a distance from the Cathedral, so we took a carriage there.

He sat across from me and Lair, but his eyes never left mine.

"Virtine, the woman with us, where is she?"

He shook his head slightly, then continued to stare at me like he was watching a criminal.

Lair didn't say a word, slamming her foot right into his sore spot, so fast and strong that even if I wasn't him, I could still feel the pain.

He groaned, looked at Lair helplessly, then passed out.

"Please stop!" – Lair said loudly.

We got out of the carriage, Lair paid and asked to take the Merlock to the harbour.

"Lair… why the sudden kick?"

She replied, her body slightly raised, showing a calm expression.

"I think he has bad intentions towards you, and because I don't want to get involved, I just deal with him."

I smiled, reaching up to pat her head.

"To be honest, if I were that guy, I'd never be able to stand up again."
