Davis took Nancy's hands as soon as they got out of the car and started walking into her father's mansion. It was the D-day of Nancy's family meeting and Davis had finally agreed to follow her. He just needed to so he wouldn't be tagged the stubborn naughty boy and he wanted to prove to Nancy's father that he was capable of being her husband.
"Are you okay?" Nancy inquired when she saw him frowning. He looked like he was ready for some battles. He tilted his head sideways to look at her and returned it to the front.
"I'll be upset if your father complains about me," he answered and pushed the giant door open. They were welcomed with a savoury aroma that passed through their nostrils making them want to give up the food that was being prepared as soon as possible.
The maid around went over to them and bowed her head in greeting. They replied to her greetings and she led them up the stairs to where family dining was.
As they strode up, they heard the voices of families. They were already chattering and having fun. They later got up and some people cheered to see the beautiful couple. Davis was ushered to an empty seat and he sat gracefully on it while Nancy left to look for her mother in the kitchen.
They all began to greet each other and Davis was given special care since they were glad to have him in their midst. Most times when they gathered, Davis was never present. So, seeing him again made them happy.
Just then, a door of a room was opened some meters away from the dining room and Nancy's father trotted out. They watched him walk over to them and when he got to them, they all greeted him. He responded with his gaze fixed on Davis who arched his eyebrows at him.
"You don't look happy to be here, Davis," Mr Jey conveyed as he pulled out his seat which was at the crown of the table to sit.
Davis smirked, "You're quick to notice that."
"May I know the reason why?" Me Jey asked even if he knew the reason why.
"I've got a lot of things to do for this meeting so I guess you know what I'm talking about," Davis divulged, leaving the house in silence. They weren't surprised since they all knew how Davis doesn't like Nancy's father.
"I understand," Mr Jey said and shifted his gaze to his daughter who had just walked in, "How are you, Nancy," he demanded.
"Good as always," she answered with a broad smile and went over to Davis.
"Nice," Mr Jay said and went on to greet others that were present. "Why don't we eat before we start," he proposed and called out to his wife in the kitchen, asking her to start serving their meals. She did and within minutes, food was starting to appear on the table.
After all the food had been brought, they began to eat silently and of course except for Davis who seemed engrossed with his phone.
Nancy's mother walked in with Nancy striding beside her. "Who do we have here," she bellowed, staring at Davis.
"Good day mother," Davis greeted, returning the smile Mrs Jey had given to him. Although he and Mr Jey didn't get along, he was closer to his wife.
"I guess my daughter had done a good job," Mrs Jey uttered and took her seat beside her husband while Nancy did the same.
"Yes ma'am," Davis admitted and focused back on his phone.
"Aren't you eating?" Nancy asked more like a whisper to him and was about to help him serve her food but he stopped her.
"I'm not hungry," he muttered.
Mrs Jey who noticed what was going on with the both of them, uttered, "Davis, you don't like eating my food and later on, you call me your mother. Isn't that absurd," Mrs Jey complained.
Davis raised his head at her, "I'm so sorry mother. I'm not hungry and might eat later." He pleaded with the puppy to look and Mrs Jey was forced to give up on him.
When they all finished eating, Mr Jey cleared his throat and started to talk. "Davis, how's your business?" He asked but someone else answered.
"I guess we only have to talk about Davis. But why did you make us waste our time coming here," one of Nancy's cousins who were known as Clinton spoke up and everyone agreed? with him.
Mr Jey cleared his throat, "I guess that's because I'm trying to create a friendly manner since I and Davis don't get along."
"Oh! I see and you can't do that after the end of the meeting, right?" Clinton asked again.
"Are you that jealous?" Davis broke into their conversation.
"Hell! No," Clinton let out.
"Then you will keep quiet we are doing," Davis conveyed winning a tap on his core from Nancy.
"You are crazy?!" Clinton shrieked.
"Oh yeah! Because I will snap that neck of yours!" Nancy growled at him and his face softened. He wouldn't disrespect his older sister.
Mr Jey after watching their drama started to relay why he called the meeting. He told them that he needed someone to help him manage his school since he was starting a new project. He then proposed it to Davis but he rejected it. After a long talk, he finally agreed that they all work hand in hand helping out with Brooklyn Academy.
They finally ended their discussion and Nancy stood up from where she sat. "Father, mother, I have great news for you guys," she uttered and looked at Davis who wasn't paying rapt attention to what she was about to say. Her parents time her to go on and she finally announced, "I'm pregnant!" She shrieked when she saw Davis raise his head to look at her in shock.
"You're pregnant?" He inquired and she nodded her head happily.
Davis didn't know what to do at that moment other than to stare at his lovely wife. "You didn't inform me." He said.
"I was going to make it a surprise for you," Nancy pouted.
"And because you're dumb to let her trust her child with you," Clinton added.
Davis threw him a scornful look while Nancy's parents cautioned him. But Davis was already angry. He stood up and pulled Nancy by her hands again. "Let's go," he told her and looked up at her parents, "We'll leave now," and without waiting for their reply, he dragged Nancy out of the mansion, down to his car and off they go to their home.
