Knocking the Resistance soldier unconscious, Kai laid him down without killing him. It wasn't an act of mercy. It was just the way he did things. He didn't like killing people, especially when you didn't need to.
The boy had a rather handsome face with black eyes and jet-black hair. Although a bit under six feet, the boy had a charming look unique to him.
At that instant, a blue flare reflected on Kai's eyes and skin. Turning his head, he saw a figure engulfed in smoke falling from the second-floor control room.
With winded eyes, Kai glanced at the falling figure just as she entered the water below. Although she had a gas mask on, from her skin alone, he knew how pretty she was, but that wasn't what triggered him. It was the fact that his comrade had just killed an allied soldier.
"Man, she sure flew far." A young lady laughed as she jumped down from the control room.
"What do you think you're doing, Jona!" Kai yelled as he grabbed ahold of her collar.
"What? I was just getting rid of the threats." Jona spoke as she looked away from Kai with a nonchalant expression.
"She was wearing Imperial uniform! She was one of us!"
"She's probably part of the Resistance Army and was dressing up like us," Jona spoke as she yawned.
"This crazy bitch..."
"Either way, we were ordered to leave no witnesses."
"That doesn't apply to the people on the same side!"
"Oops, too late now," Jona said with a scoff as she noticed the severity in Kai's eyes.
"Do you think human lives are a joke…?" Kai mumbled as he raised his hand high into the sky. Then, just as he was about to bring it down into her face, the sound of coughing filled the facility.
Kai turned his head towards the sound with winded eyes.
"Huh…? I made sure to kill her…." Jona mumbled as she stared at the young lady pushing herself out of the reactor pool.
On the other hand, Kai immediately rushed to the young lady's aid, but by the time he did, she was already out of the pool.
"Are you okay…?" Kai asked with a frantic look. "We need to get to a hospital."
In an attempt to assist the young lady, Kai grabbed her arm but was met with a cold reply.
"Don't touch me…." The young lady growled as she smacked the hand off her arm.
She then moved her eyes towards Jona while completely ignoring Kai.
"You're the fucker who almost killed Ian…." The young lady mumbled with clenched fists.
Jona shrugged her shoulders as if it wasn't her problem.
"Jona! You're in the wrong here! Apologize now!" Kai shouted.
"Oh, piss off." Jona cursed with annoyance as she rolled her eyes. "I'm not apologizing to anyone."
"No, it was my fault for coming here." The young lady spoke with guilt in her voice.
Then grabbing her weapons off the ground near the shattered glass, she walked upstairs without looking back.
"You're going to let her go just like that?" Jona asked as she looked at Kai. "No questions, no nothing?"
"She doesn't need to be questioned, Jona."
"But what about that guy?" Jona asked as she pointed to the man lying unconscious on the rafters. "Did you keep him alive to interrogate him later, or did you plan on letting him go?"
"No... I was planning on capturing him." Kai responded to Jona as he walked to the Resistance soldier and hoisted him to his shoulder like a rug sack.
It was at that point they heard an agonizing scream from the upper floors.
Kai turned to face the stairs that the young lady had climbed not too long ago. "What the hell happened?"
With an anxious expression, Kai dashed up the stairs and towards the main entrance. Jona soughed as she quickly chased after Kai.
Kai looked outside the door as he swallowed his saliva, arriving in a few seconds. The bodies of Resistance soldiers were scattered across the floor, and the young lady was in the center of it all. She slowly lifted a Resistance soldier up into the air, grabbing him by the neck.
As the rough, muffled breathing entered everyone's ears, the moonlight reflected off the lenses of the young lady's gas mask. The young lady then strengthened her grip without hesitation, crushing the soldier's neck.
As the body went limp, blood splattered everywhere. Finally letting go, the lifeless body tumbled to the snowy floor.
"Y-you... how could you be so callous?" Kai mumbled while dropping the soldier to the ground. Then he pulled out his handgun and prepared it for use.
"It appears that Everwhite's new task force left some insects outside." The young lady spoke while staring at Kai.
Hearing her words, Kai flinched and raised his weapon, pointing it at her.
"How did you find out about that?"
"You're not required to know." She said this as she walked away, turning her head away.
"Tell me! Or el-"
"Or else what?" She stared into Kai's soul. The young lady turned her head back. As she spoke, an intense killing aura emanated from her. "Pull that trigger, and it'll be you who will die, not me."
Jona, who was standing idly from the back, flinched as she took a step back.
'The hell?! Is this the same bitch from before?!' She screamed inside as fear struck her face.
On the other hand, Kai stood firm, but his hand appeared to be trembling.
"Don't you dare follow me." The young lady said as she walked away into the darkness.
Minutes passed since she left, but both stood still without moving until a voice came from Kai's watch. "We're reaching near-meltdown! What are you doing over there?!"
Snapping out of his daze Kai and Jona immediately ran down the stairs and charged their way into the charred control room.
Kai then pressed a button that allowed the asses water to flow into the cooling chamber.
"I thought you'd taken care of everything!" Kai screamed.
"Don't flame me, okay?! I was fighting that crazy bitch!" Jona yelled back, her face flushed with rage.
"This was our trial period, and we clearly screwed up!" Kai sighed as he pulled on his face.
...
Imperial National Defense Agency.
Kai and Jona stood shoulder to shoulder at attention inside a briefing room.
The door swung open with a clack, and a beautiful lady with a dashing appearance emerged. Despite having a scar on her right eye, she seemed to be able to charm most men.
Her dark short red hair and eyes matched her uniform perfectly. The insignia on her left shoulder indicated her captaincy.
"What's with you brats?!" She yelled as she moved to a rolling chair and kicked her feet onto the desk. "I send you guys to show how powerful the top-ranked students in Everwhite are, but you little shits almost sent the Empire to the ice age!"
"But-"
"Shut the fuck up! It was an easy mission! Your job was to get in, get the job done, and get out! But, because of you brats, now I'm a fucking joke to everyone!"
Kai and Jona looked at each other and sighed.
"Captain Layla, we meet an unknown imperial soldier," Kai spoke up.
"Uh-huh... so what?" Layla spoke with an unconcerned expression.
"That soldier knew about our new task force."
Layla looked up at Kai with a raised eyebrow. "This task is one of the most secure and secret task forces in Everwhite. Now to mention that this task force was recently created."
Layla rose from her seat and paced around the room, rubbing her chin. Kai and Jona stood there watching her with amusement.
"How skilled was this soldier?" Layla asked.
"That bitch has killed a bunch," Jona spoke as she recalled what had just happened. "A ruthless killer..."
"Okay... I got it..." Layla mumbled as she then pointed at the door. "Get out!"
Kai and Jona locked their gaze on her for a moment before fleeing the briefing room.
Layla finally began to think when she was alone. 'An unknown soldier that was enough to overcome two of Everwhite's top students... and able to have an incredible information gathering ability... we might be dealing with something bigger than we expected.'
