Later that night, when Rainer was alone in his crib.
'Okay, mom said that I must clear my mind. Good thing I practiced martial arts back on earth; this shouldn't be too difficult.'
Rainer Stilled his body and started breathing. In over 3 seconds, hold for 5 seconds before exhaling over 6 seconds. He repeated this process, focusing on his body, feeling his blood flowing through his veins, the air coming through his mouth. In and out over and over again.
'Maybe there is something more to this than just meditating.'
Rainer thought of the steps his mother took earlier that day. First a blue mist, then a condensed pool, and finally shaping into a bird. He pictured gathering energy into a mist. A faint blue fog started appearing slowly, and Rainer felt something and opened his eyes.
'Huzza, I did it if I can replicate on that fee.....'
Rainer passed out; controlling mana strain the user's body. As a baby, it drained his stamina, and he faded into the night. He awoke the following day, wailed for food, and reflected on the feeling of mana.
'I felt mana last night, but I didn't realize how taxing it would be. Clearly, mom forgot to mention that, or maybe it's considered too normal to teach to a baby.'
Rose had continued discussing the other types of magic with Rainer because it always made him happy. During that time, Rainer figured out why he could understand his family. It was artifact magic. Specifically, the amulets that all his family wore. It also clarified why he couldn't understand the servents that regularly attended to his mother and him.
'I think I have gotten a decent control over this mana thing, but I am not sure I should try any spells.'
Over the weeks, Rainer practiced controlling mana and noticed that the more he practiced, the longer he could do it. At first, he could only condense a light mist, then a dense fog, eventually becoming a pool until he was finally able to form it into a bird.
'What would happen if things got out of control and someone saw? Or worse, what if one of my family members heard and understood what I said? How would I explain knowing a foreign language as a baby? So instead, I should focus on learning the native language.'
Rainer learned from listening to his family talk. Picking it up extremely quickly, I mean, he already could understand what they meant, only needing to memorize the words they used to convey their meaning. He said his first words to his mother during one of her magic lessons.
'Okay, Rainer, I think it's about time I start talking.'
"Mama, Pheonix Missle."
Pheonix Missle was one of Rainer's favorite spells, and Rose picked up on that and cast it often. She was over the moon. Not only did her baby boy say mama first, but he even said her magic spell. So she picked up and held Rainer and cast the spell for him.
'I think I can try casting cantrips tonight now that I know the language. Being blessed by magic seems much easier to explain than knowing an alien language.'
