Chapter 1 - Prologue: Goodnight

"I'm sorry. You're too high maintenance. I seriously just can't do this anymore. I'm your boyfriend, not your therapist. I could handle the bits of anxiety you'd get. I could handle your panic attacks. But lately, it's just.. been too much, Mal. We need to break up. See you around."

"This friendship isn't worth it anymore. All you do is complain and our moments together always lead to you venting. I don't want to be friends anymore."

"Please just stop crying! I can't handle this anymore Mal! It's hurting my mental health to be friends with you."

"Mal listen. I hope you get better. I'm not happy in this friendship anymore and neither are you. Well, you don't seem to be happy ever. Good luck with life."

"I can't support you anymore."

"Nothing I say will help Mal, I think it's time we stop talking."

"I don't want to talk to you anymore."

All her close companions left her. These words were rushing through her head during this moment. Those words and the constant deep voice in the back of her head yelling to jump.

"Jump."

"Jump!"

"JUMP!"

She was crying standing over the streets of New York City. A city that was alive day and night as people from all over walked along the streets. Constant noise from cars honking, people talking, and construction work was all around her. All these different senses were overwhelming her causing panic. She took a step closer to the edge of the roof. The overwhelming urge to jump scared Mal. Grabbing her phone for one last sign that she shouldn't plummet to what she considered an escape. Her phone was empty, with no texts, missed calls, or even any notifications. The tears fell onto the phone screen and her vision blurred. She took another step forward as the booming voice in the back of her head got louder.

"JUMP!"

Mal grabbed onto the ledge of the building and pulled herself up. The wind was blowing quickly causing her tears to flow away. To Mal, everything in this moment felt as if it got louder and slower. She dropped her phone on the roof of the building and took one final look at the ground before closing her eyes. With a deep breath, she took another step forward. This time there was no ground for her to step to. Falling to the ground at a rapid pace for the first time in a while she smiled. Then she hit the ground.
