ALPHA KALISTA DRACONIS' POV
Juliana and I had been shocked to our bones when we heard Alpha Gray's command. The soldier who had attacked Juliana was immediately killed and we could not believe our eyes. All the way back to our pack, we kept talking about how heartless the Alpha was.
So, I guess you can understand why I am reluctant about having anything to do with Alpha Gray.
I am sitting in the garden and trying to arrange my thoughts. I am really bothered about all that is going on and I want to do right by my people. A sound from behind me draws my attention and I see that it is Kiara. She looks like she has also been doing a lot of thinking.
"How are you doing, Alpha Kalista?" She asks me and I smile ruefully.
"I have been better." I simply tell her and she sits beside me.
"I understand exactly how you feel. Our people are dying right before our very eyes and it is so crazy that we feel so helpless." Kiara says.
"I have been thinking about everything that the spies said when they got back, and I want to send a message to the Black Fur Pack." I tell her.
Kiara's eyes widen. "Are you sure you want to contact Alpha Gray? Remember he does not have a good reputation." She reminds me.
"I know." I tell her and she sighs softly. "At this point, I will do anything to save the lives of my people." I say.
"Okay, what are you suggesting?" She asks.
"I was thinking we should send messengers to the Black Fur Pack. When they get there, they will tell the Alpha that the Lily White Pack needs his help." I explain.
"I don't have a good feeling about this." Kiara says with a faraway look in her eyes.
"Me too. We just have to do what is right." I say and she nods in agreement.
Within the next three hours, we hand-pick four messengers and send them on their way to the Black Fur Pack with adequate protection. The journey to the Black Fur Pack from the Lily White Pack approximately four hours, so I do not expect the soldiers to come back until the next day.
As early as seven the next morning, I stand in the balcony of my Mansion and wait for the messengers to come back. Thankfully, they get back at around ten a.m. and I rush downstairs to receive them. We have a closed-door meeting and they inform me that they were well received by Alpha Gray. This comes as a surprise to me but I hide my shock. The soldiers tell me that after they told him the reason for their visit, he told them to go to bed and that his response would be ready in the morning. The next morning, they were woken up by the Alpha himself and he gave them a letter and then bade them farewell.
"Where is the letter?" I ask and one of them hands it over to me.
"He said it is only for your eyes and that he is expecting a response in three days." The soldier tells me and I am really confused.
After dismissing everyone, I go into my room and open the letter with shaky hands. It is sealed with Alpha Gray's seal and this is how I know that he really means business. The letter reads thus:
"Kalista Draconis, the daughter of the late Alpha Killian Draconis!
I must confess that I was very surprised to see your messengers come into my pack, but when they told me the reason for their visit, I was able to understand how desperately you need my help. Well, I will only deal with you directly and this means that I want to see you. I want to see you within the next three days or else you will forfeit any chances of getting my help.
P.S. We have met before, so I do not see why this should be a problem.
Yours not-so-sincerely,
Gray Dexter.
I stand in the middle of my room and gently drop the paper on my bed. I have always known that it would come to this but I had no idea that my thoughts would actually come true. I know that if I tell Kiara about this, she will ask me not to grant Alpha Gray's request, but that will only mean that my pack members will continue to suffer for my refusal.
I cannot let that happen.
The next day, I wake up as early as four in the morning and go into the stables to pick up my horse, Roman. I ask three of my personal guards to ride with me and we go to the Black Fur Pack. Due to the fact that there is snow all over the place, our ride is not smooth and we spend six full hours on the road. By the time we get to the Pack, it is past ten in the morning.
The guards at the pack bow in respect when they see me and I am told to wait in the waiting room for the Alpha- looks like he is in a meeting or something. I wait in the room with my guards and I practice my speech quietly.
We wait for another three hours and on a normal day, I would have been very pissed. However, I tell myself that I will,be as calm as possible and not get mad. Finally, the Alpha shows up at two p.m. and I rise up to greet him. He is a tall man, six feet three inches tall with gray eyes and the darkest color of hair I have ever seen. Even his hair is darker than mine. When he takes my hand, his gaze lingers on me for a long time and I can almost hear my pulse beat from behind my ears.
"Welcome, Alpha Kalista. Now that you are here, could you ask your guards to excuse us?" He asks with a stern look on his face.
What now?
