Chapter 16 - Chapter fifteen: Princess Rwen

She awoke blinking at the hazy light.

"Princess Dira". The same red head from the day before was by her bedside peering down with concern. She looked about Rwen's age only shorter with long scarlet hair, styled in twin ponytails. Apparently, she and her twin brother were apprentices of the doctor. Rwen looked pass her to sweep the room.

"Where is Alia?"

"Alia?" The girl repeated, brows scrunching up in confusion. "Listen!"

But Rwen had already shrugged her off, stumbling out of bed and marching for the door. Had Alia not seen what had taken place yesterday? Their lives were in imminent danger! They had to leave immediately!

"Alia!" she stormed the study, pushing the door with such a force, it slammed against the wall.

"Finally awake I see". Alia lifted her head then in a less enthusiastic tone, "you are only in your nightgown." Rwen glanced down subconsciously before remembering the reason she had come.

"It doesn't matter! We have to leave now! Someone tried to kill you, someone wanted to kill you!" She was panicking and Alia had to reach out a hand to stop her.

"Look, calm down. I'm fine, you're fine. Nothing is going to happen to us". she handed her over to the doctor's apprentice who had appeared at the door. "Take her back to her room and get her something to eat".

"Yes your majesty".

Rwen did go back to her room but she did not mean to stay there. Alia was not herself and her sister Candy, was away. It was up to her to save them from this wretched place.

First she would find Candy, she would know what to do, she always did.

Changing into a pale yellow dress that felt like the petals of a rose, she slipped into a pair of matching ballet shoes and headed for the door.

"Roar!" a puff of steam washed over her and she hurried pass the dragon that stood guard outside. Thinking better of it, she returned to the room. Was she really doing this? Yes she had to! Still it would be better if she actually prepared for the journey. Flinging the closet doors wide, she examined its contents. There were all kinds of dresses for all sorts of occasions and best yet, they were all in her favorite colors. She found a fancy leather suit that was specifically designed for dragon riding, packaging this along with a few other necessities, she headed for the door.

"Your highness," There was a maid holding a tray of chopped fruits and a green bean soup.

Rwen took it hesitantly.

"Oh thank you". She placed it on a small table by the door. Turning to the maid. "Um...do you know the fastest way to get to were my sister went? The...Del... I mean, you know what I mean!"

"Do you mean to say Delorel your highness?"

"Yes" she pointed "that's it!"

"Well you could use a falcon carriage or fly dragon back, those would be the fastest way but..."

"Great!" Rwen declared. "I think, I'll take the carriage". Dragon back did sound cool but Rwen was not so interested in swag rather, she desired class and a carriage did sound classy.

"Your highness would you like that I arrange the carriage?" The maid questioned.

"Absolutely!"

A little later, she went out to the carriage. She had never been outside the castle alone and even then she had been flocked by guards and made to hurry. Despite this, she herself was in a hurry and did not stop to gaze or admire. At the carriage, Rwen found two guards waiting to accompany her but she quickly dismissed them.

She entered the strange carriage which was more like a large basket with a plush bench at one end and a small awning to provide shelter from the sun. It did not even have wheels!

She was just wondering how it would be able to move when a large shadow of a bird descended and before she could say a word, the carriage jolted upwards. She was being carried off by a gigantic bird!
