In this adaptation of Syed Waliullah's 1948 study of religious hypocrisy, a Muslim cleric arrives in a remote Bangladeshi farming community and gradually convinces the villagers that a dilapidated grave is actually the resting place of a famous holyman. The cleric, while pocketing the offerings left at the grave, quickly ascends to a position of great power in the village, first marrying one local woman before turning his sights on another.
