Chapter 6 - Game Start (Part 1)

Jason's sight blurred and all of a sudden, he felt like he was travelling at high speeds. His vision went dark, and with a flash he found himself in a pure white room.

Everything was white, the floor, the ceiling and walls. He could tell that there were walls around him because there were picturesque paintings hanging on all four walls in their center.

He recognized these scenes as major areas of Socrathia; the Obsidian Monolith in the Socrath Empire the mighty Volcano Dracon in the dwarven kingdom, the shadow forest realm of the elves, and the Swamp Marshes of the south.

In the center of the room floated a pint-sized fairy. The fairy was no larger than a small saltshaker and was clearly female due to her voluptuous figure. She had grass green hair that flowed down her back, and rainbow-colored wings that were fluttering as fast as a hummingbirds.

As the fairy noticed Jason's gaze upon her, she spoke in a high pitched voice that reminded him of tinkling glass.

"Socrathia welcomes you with open arms adventurer! My name is Rimi!"

Jason placed his right fist over his heart and gave a slight bow.

"I am honored to be welcomed by such a beautiful maiden."

The fairy blushed and gave a slight giggle then flew up to almost a foot in front of Jason's face.

Flattery went a long way with the fey, especially here at the beginning of the game. It wasn't found out until the game had been out for several weeks that the greeting fairies responded very well to flattery and would give a gift along with the standard introduction of Socrathia.

"I like you adventurer, let me tell you a bit about Socrathia before I send you fully into Socrathia." She giggled and twirled in the air.

Jason smiled and said with another flourishing bow, "As you wish my lady."

Keeping a smooth smile on his face Jason sighed on the inside. 'Here comes the long and boring introduction.'

"Socrathia is a continent that has many different kingdoms and empires. You have been summoned to aid us in our fight against all those who aim to corrupt and spread chaos. We are currently being besieged by demons, creatures of the dark, and our own kin who have been infected by demonic energy."

"As you are not from this realm, once you fully enter our world you will be given an interface that displays your different attributes, skills, and allows you to interact with the System."

"The System was born of a combined effort of the greatest minds of all races centuries ago in order to save our realm from absolute destruction."

"Over the ages The System has evolved to not only aid the original inhabitants of this world but any being that enters into this realm. Hence, once you fully enter Socrathia, you will also have access to the System."

She then delved into a deeper description of The System.

"Essentially one-thousand years ago, the greatest Magicians, Sages, Artisans, Array Masters, and Druids came together to stop their universe from dying. In the process they gave their lives, and in their final moments their consciousness formed into a semi-sentient, non-corporeal entity known as The System.

From then on, The System would then awaken a deeper connection to mana in every individual, guiding them to higher tiers of strength and power. It also aids Users in managing their interface, initiating and completing quests, guiding their mana through spells, and leveling up."

After Rimi stopped to take a breath, Jason took the initiative to speak.

"Ms. Rimi, I am thankful for the call and am ready to aid you and Socrathia to battle against the Demons."

"Thank you Sir Adventurer!" She squealed in a high pitch voice. "Now, before you enter you must choose a name for our world!"

Jason pondered for a moment. He needed a name that not only would become an inspiration to humanity, but one that would invoke fear in his enemies.

"Demon Slayer? No… It needs to be something that means more. Hmmmm, Thanatos is the personification of death in Greek Mythology. I choose Thanatos."

Remi sighed, "I'm sorry, Thanatos has already been chosen by someone from your world."

"How about the god of eternity, Aion?

"Also chosen."

"Zues?"

"Taken."

"Ares?"

"Already chosen."

"F*ck!"

"That has already been chosen too."

"I didn't mean it like that…" Jason sighed and rubbed his head. He had chosen the lame name of Dragon Slayer245 in the past, and he didn't think that was very terrifying or inspiring.

Rimi continued to flutter in the air, waiting for Jason to choose a name.

'Hm, I'm going to have to combine a name. Eternal Death would be a cool name, but that's to simple. I wonder…'

"Rimi, I've decided. My name will be known as Thanataion." 'Eternal Death, such a cool name!'

"Thanataion will now be your name in this new world."

"Yes!"

Rimi appeared to be happy at his enthusiasm.

"Thanataion, I welcome you to Socrathia! Take this as a parting gift, this should aid you in gaining more strength."

She handed Jason a yellow potion. She continued saying, "One last word of warning. Now that your world has come into contact with ours, should this world fall, your world will be targeted by the Demons thereafter. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors."

Jason frowned. He understood the severity of those words. He also knew that the majority of Users who joined this game wouldn't take this warning seriously.

Remi waved her hand and a complicated magical array appeared underneath Jason's feet. As the array began to glow, a message appeared before his eyes.

[System Message – Please choose your starting village]

A long list of villages appeared before Jason's eyes, and he quickly spoke the name of the one that he had told his family to choose before they all entered their rooms; Reunfry Village.

A beam of light shot up towards the ceiling, enveloping Jason completely.

Jason closed his eyes to avoid being blinded by the light, and when he opened his eyes again he was in the center of a small village.

There were wooden and stone buildings all around a large courtyard with cobbled stone pavement. In the center of the courtyard was a large fountain with water spouting out of it. The largest building in sight was a 4 storied manor at one end of the courtyard.

He wasn't the only one that had appeared here. Many bright flashes of light were happening every second with people appearing and looking around.

Jason quickly ran to the fountain in the center and climbed on top of it so he could look around. He saw individuals in armor, mage robes, and other medieval attire sitting at a table with a strange stone in front of them. Many Users were already lining up at this table to see what was going on.

Of course Jason already knew what the table was for, this was an opportunity for the various NPC guilds to recruit the new Users. People would be able to sign up here for the Adventurers Guild, the Warriors Guild, the Mages Guild, or the Artisan Guild here. There were many different paths a User could take in choosing a class and gaining strength and these were just opportunities for the Users to start on a path and receive training.

He continued to look around and quickly found his kids standing in a circle. He saw that they were standing around Beth who was sitting on the ground.

He smiled and ran over to them to see what was going on.

When he arrived he approached Beth and saw that she was relaxing on the ground just looking around, craning her neck to see around the legs of the other Users.

When she saw Jason she waved at him and greeted him with a, "Hey babe!"

Jason smiled and asked her, "Sweetie, why are you sitting on the ground? You're not tired already are you?"

Jason really couldn't think of any conceivable notion as to why Beth would be sitting on the ground in the middle of a courtyard.

Beth looked exasperated as she grumbled, "It's cause I don't know what the controls are! The little fairy didn't explain the controls to me and so I decided to just sit and wait here until my gaming controller shows up! How are you moving around?"

Jason stared at her, dumbfounded. She seemed absolutely serious.
