Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

AUDREY'S POV

"You've been dead for two years!!"

This is one of the moments I know Leila is not kidding. She has her serious expression on.

"Wait. How...how is that possible? I'm standing right here?" My heart was racing and my head is pounding with thousand questions running through with no one to answer them at once.

"You are carrying another person's face. To your family, you died from health complications two years ago and we brought you back. It's complicated though."

"Tell me! I don't care. This is my existence we are talking about. So, what am I? Is this the in between?" I was getting really paranoid.

"Hey!" she shook my shoulder and looked at me right in the eye. "You are still you. Audrey Rhodes. I need you to really calm down and I'll explain it all to you. Okay?"

I nodded silently.

The ride home was quiet and we barely spoke a word. It just didn't sit well with me. I'm dead!. The is not to shock I was expecting when I get back and why was it hidden from me this long.

Finally, we arrived at this really huge iron gate. Leila stopped at the white gate and an "A" was boldly decorated at the center. Guards dressed in suits and dark shades stationed around it and one came forward to check 'guest'. He looks intimidating with his straight expression. Leila rolled the window down and the chubby man quickly ordered the men to open the gate. Leila drove in and sped down the lonely road with vast vegetations and beautiful flowers which I noticed some workers were tending to it and stop what they were doing to greet her.

A huge white mansion appeared in view and my jaw was literally on the floor.

'Is this the white house?' I thought as she drove slowly between two fountains and parked before servants dressed in white and black who stood outside with a tray of champagne each. A guard opened my door and I stepped out cautiously, surveying my surroundings. This place is definitely not on earth. You can't stay and have a thing to worry about.

"Welcome to the Armani estate!" Leila drew me out of my thoughts and walked confidently to the house with me trailing closely behind. She took a glass of champagne from one of the maids and offered me.

"I'm fine." I gave a small smile.

"Hello, miss!" The old butler bowed slightly with a small grin.

"Nice to see you again Nathaniel."

"You too, miss."

We walk in and my mind was blown away. What is this place?. I walked carefully, afraid of staining the expensive Italian rug leading up the stairs. Everything here screamed wealth, power and class. From the spotless white tiles to the paintings hung on the wall, even the chandelier shone brightly, with each crystal reflection looking mesmerizing to watch. The ceramic vases stood at each corner of the room. I bet one of them is worth more than my life

She led me to my room and it was 3 times bigger than my room back at home. That thought brought a sudden pain to my heart. The home I'm never going to leave in again.

"Shower, rest and eat. I'll explain everything in detail when you are settled." She gave a sympathetic smile and I nodded, closing the door gently behind me.

I was left alone in the gigantic room and I took a good look around. Its walls were painted in a cream color and in the middle of the room stood a king sized bed. There was a vanity mirror and a chair with some body cosmetics arranged on the table. I opened the curtains with a remote and a large amount of sunlight streamed in. I stepped outside and closed my eyes as the sun hit my face and I relished in its warmness. The feeling against skin was wonderful. Being indoors for the most part of your life due to a disorder takes a huge impact on you.

Eversince I realized I was cured, I thought I would be excited going out into the sun and watching the sun set with your family but I was wrong. I was mostly scared. At least, in the dark, no one pays close attention to you. No one cares or sees what you look like, how pale your skin is or what you are wearing. Everyone just wanna go home after having a long day but now, everyone pays close attention to every thing detail and I felt exposed.

Even when I follow Agatha out back in the pack, I felt conscious of my body, how I looked and I felt going out more will make it better but nothing changed. I may look like a tough girl back there but I was a wreck inside and I could wait to crawl into my bed.

I looked ahead and the view was breathtaking. I had the view of the property and beautiful is not enough to describe what it was. I pulled my shoes off and laid on the bed staring at the chandelier as it hung beautifully. The fatigue from the journey set in coupled with the softness of the bed and I was soon fast asleep.

I woke up the next morning to the smell of freshly baked bread mixed with eggs and bacon. Sometimes I hate how my wolf sense picks every little scent. I smiled at how soft and clean the bed was with its crisp sheets. I sat up and stretched, sighing in relief as my bones cracked. I walked into the bathroom and checked the shelf for new toothbrush. I brushed my teeth before looking at myself in the mirror. My mind went back to the huge blow I received yesterday. I just hope Mom is fine!

It was just Leila and I having breakfast and the rectangular long table was filled with foods. Servants stood aside in case we needed anything.

"Do you stay here alone?" I broke the silence.

"Mostly. I'm involved in another scandal so I come here until it passes since the press literally lives in my house but they can't come here because of the tight security and Clary just comes to relax." I just nodded. My mood is still damp.

I felt her lingering gaze on me.

"Leave us." she excused the maids and they bowed and walked away in a single line.

"Do you wanna hear what happened now?"

I paused and looked up before nodding slowly.
