Chereads / Secret Code: The Marriage Proposal / Chapter 5 - The Same Face

Chapter 5 - The Same Face

Prince couldn't fall asleep in a wink. The horror of the woman falling to the ground kept on coming in his eyes. He switched on the lamp, rubbed his eyes off, and the words echoed in his mind.

"You'll find me living once again, Prince."

What does she mean of that?

Prince sighed. He stared at the bathroom door right on the corner of his closet, and his fingertips tingled. The cold sweat trickled down his forehead, and he buried his eyes to his palms. Prince closed his eyes, trying to erase her image, but the words got stuck in his head.

"This will not going to work."

Prince swept the comforter aside, swinging his legs furiously, and went to the closet to retrieve some jogging hoodie and shorts. He needed to breathe in the fresh air. He needed to get away from the reason of his nightmare, even though it's just a few hours after he killed Avery.

Prince was done in 10 minutes, and retrieved his phone. He put on some ear buds, and blasted on to Hinder's Lips of an Angel song. Prince closed his eyes, nodding his head as he went out of his bedroom at exactly 5 in the morning.

He ran a few laps in the Vasteria's clubhouse and decided to go out to the highway to get some fresh, sunrise air. Prince jogged down the pavement towards the nearest corndog station, when suddenly, he bumped into someone. The woman fell to the ground, the hood falling off from the back of her head, and she's holding her abdomen.

Prince removed his ear buds, turned to the woman's tied hair, and crouched down. He immediately smelled blood, although he couldn't see where it was coming from. Prince tapped her shoulder, but she didn't turn in his direction.

"Are you okay, Miss…" Prince moved positions and got to see the woman's face. He must have got struck by the lightning as he saw who it was. The woman looked up. Her pale lips trembled, her eyes were frightened, and she hitched her breath. Prince froze in his place as he saw…

The exact same face Avery had.

Avery's words came back to him.

"You'll find me living once again, Prince."

Aria pursed her lips, shaking, and turned to her hand. It's smeared with blood. The tears fell down her cheeks as she knew the baby she's carrying was going to die. Aria doesn't know what to do but to clasp on the man's jacket, seeking for help.

"Help me," Aria uttered desperately.

Prince got too excited to know what happened with Bryce's plan, but what is she doing…

Aria's blood dripped down on the floor, and it caught Prince's attention. He gaped, wondering where was the blood coming from. Aria winced in pain, holding her abdomen, and Prince's heart softened for a moment.

"What's happening?" Prince asked.

"I'm pregnant, and I don't know… why I'm bleeding." Aria clutched her abdomen, gripping her shirt tightly, and pinched his arm. She closed her eyes, and Prince was stuck in the situation. Prince didn't know if he should abandon her on the pavement or call the cab and hoist him towards the hospital. She grunted in pain, and the blood was oozing out.

Like the same pool of blood Avery suffered last night because of him…

Prince shook his head vigorously. What's important is today.

Aria shouted, "Ah! It's too…"

Prince turned his head back, yelling, "Call a cab for us!"

He doesn't know if his mind was in control or if his heart was speaking up for him. For all he knew, this woman might have the same face as Avery, but she's pregnant, and she's carrying a child in her womb. Prince had to save it. Aria held onto his arm, and he reassured, "Just hold onto my arm, alright? I'll carry you down the cab."

He went out of the mansion because Avery kept on showing up whenever he closed his eyes, but he never thought he would save the same woman with the same face as her. Prince positioned Aria on the pavement, catching his breath, and didn't mind the blood spilling out from her tights. He carried her on a bridal style, onto the cab a passerby called, and secured him in position.

Prince tapped the man's shoulder, and said thank you.

Aria was still in pain. The cold sweat trickled down her forehead.

She grunted, but Prince was there to let her hold his hand. Prince ordered to deliver them to the hospital. He turned to the woman, and even though Prince was a stranger to her, she held onto him, and wished it's not the end of her life. Aria leaned over his shoulder, sniffing in, and Prince's heart pounded louder.

He clenched his jaw, staring at his abdomen, and glared out of the car window.

"We need to further check her condition. She might suffer from miscarriage due to the stress and doing rigid activities for the past few days. We'll update you tomorrow, Mr. Gomez," the attending physician bowed down her head, and walked away with a few nurses. Prince stood there in the bench outside her private ward.

The woman was sleeping.

She's not a normal woman… she's…

"Damn Bryce. He lied to me." Prince retrieved his cell phone, sucking in his breath, and had the urge to kick the trash bin on the side, but he controlled his temper. This isn't the right time to throw out in anger. Prince dialed his number, but the moment he called, the receiver said the same thing.

"The number you have dialed is unavailable. Please try again later."

Prince gripped his cell phone, clenching his jaw, and closed his eyes. He stared at the door, sighing exasperatedly. They should be done with the job right now… they should have cleaned up the twins bodies and made them disappear out of thin air. Bryce blew it up.

"And even impregnated Aria De Leon," he scoffed. Prince couldn't believe he had to take care of his mess.

Avery was right. He'd see her living once again.

Prince stuffed in his cell phone back on his pockets, slid in the door, and went inside silently. Aria was sleeping. Her hands have the IV shot, and the nurses changed her to a hospital gown. Prince observed her for a while.

For the past 4 years he had been with Avery, Prince memorized her features. Even the crease of his forehead, he knew all of it. Looking at Aria, she had the same physique Avery had. Prince resisted committing up with his guilt. It's only been a few hours after he killed Avery, and now…

"She really had the same face as her sister."

He guessed the nightmare will continue while Aria was still living.
