Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: ACE OF THE UNKNOWN

(On the other side of the wall)

A winged man, dressed in white cloth and golden sandals flew right on the closed parts of the door. He saw three cows resting on the floor not far from the door.

"Polars never learn..." he whispered and flew down to take the cows. But a white cloth caught his attention.

He moved towards it and saw the purest creature he has ever seen in his entire life. He couldn't find the words to say but he was sure of what he saw, it was a newly born baby, someone who has never committed any mortal sin. He took it and held it in his arms as he was trying to caress its pink cheeks.

"It must have been painful, to be sent away by the people you didn't know to a place that it's far unknown to you. But nevertheless, I am glad to see you. We will call you, Ace, the first mortal baby to come in the Februa."

As ace was introduced to the people, they were overjoyed. It was their first time seeing a baby let alone a baby offered to the door.

Februa, the land of the Pure is inhabited by winged people called februans. They are identified as people with wings and beautiful faces. Almost all of the februans are identical to each other because they were born from the same source, the giant bamboos of the land of pure. Each year, the bamboo would grow new branches and after few months, they will crack revealing a new full grown februans. They were never born as babies so having a baby in their place is a miracle to them.

Ace was raised by the februans. The boy grew to be strong, smart, caring and divinely beautiful. The februans gave Ace every bit of love they could give since it is what he lacks when he was sent by his own people to the door. But Ace never resented them. He knew they have no choice but to do such thing.

For many years, Ace became a part of the februans. He may be different physically, but they never let Ace feel different at all. But the young boy, as he was turning 15 grew curious of the sphere, and the reasons why his people want to go to the center of the sphere.

"Hey Icarus, why do think Polars want to go to the center of the sphere?" he asked his closest friend.

"Well, probably they dream of something." he answered.

Ace was only silent.

"Ace, everyone has a dream. Even februans wants to go to the center of the sphere. It's not just the polars but februans too."

"Has a februan came back from the other land?" Ace asked his friend again. But Icarus shook his head.

"Just like you, anyone who goes through door can never come back. So no one has ever tell a tale of what's on the next side of the land next to Februa.

The young boy thought and looked unto the vast skies above the land of the Februa. The sky was shining blue in the other side and orange on the opposite side. The sun is not seen but they can see the light reflected upon it.

"Did you know that the sun is not actually a triangle but a circle. "Ace mumbled.

"Ace, you know that's a myth right? No one has ever seen the Sun. Nobody knows what its real color is or what its shape is." Icarus spoke.

Ace only giggled.

"Yeah, I know Icarus but you know, I wonder, Gaius Juin, is it really true that's it's a place where you can achieve your dream? I even read that that it's the only place in the sphere where you can see the sun directly."

Icarus frown over the curiosity of his Polar friend.

"Yeah, just like in the myths Ace."

"Gaius Juin, I want to go there." he suddenly spoke.

"What? Are you serious about that Ace?" Icarus spoke. "It's the unknown that you're going to meet, are you sure you want to go on the center?"

"Well, I'm a Polar but I was raised as a februan. Everything about me is unknown already so I wanted to know more. My past may seem hazy but my future awaits for me. This land is my home, this is where is grew up but I wanted to see the world more. I wanted to fill my future with known things and adventure to fill my unknown past. And I can't do that if I will just stay here. Besides, I wanted to see the sun."

Icarus couldn't argue over his curious friend. He knew him too well that he won't back down if he tells him to.

"You know, we can go together Icarus. Both of us can go through the door of the next land." Ace bluntly suggested.

"Well, I don't know."

"Well then, do you have any dream?"

Icarus was silent and looked at sky.

"You know, I always loved flying around this place but it frustrates me that whenever I fly above the walls, I get pulled down. I wanted to see the source of this lights in the sky and fly towards it and take it by my hands. To fly towards the sun and touch it, is my dream"

"You will melt you know." Ace spoke.

"But its worth trying." Icarus answered truthfully.

The two young boys laugh in their own dreams. So simple yet this was the only reason for them to leave their place and take on adventure. A small flickering light of dream that will lead to the wonders of the sphere and unto themselves. But of course, it was never to pursue their plan as Icarus and Ace tried to tell this towards their guardians.
