INDIGO'S P.O.V.
It's been three days since I've seen Lily. I tried hard to focus on my school work that weekend yet I couldn't get her out of my mind. I would replay the moment we spent together over and over in my head. I tried to figure out what I did wrong, and why Lily pushed me away the way that she did. I felt like a fool, she told me how she wasn't ready for anything sexual yet I still eagerly accepted her invitation. I should have known better and told her no, I was just so excited. Being wanted by my mate made me ecstatic. Everything about her was alluring and comforting. I asked to mark her which was the stupidest idea I had yet. Lily obviously has commitment issues yet I let my wolf take control for just a moment and asked her to let me make her mine.
~How am I going to fix this? ~
-You could always get her a gift.-
~Of course, because a gift is the best way to say I'm sorry for almost having sex with you.~
-What else are we supposed to do?-
~I don't know. This whole thing is driving me crazy.~
"Indigo?"
I snapped out of my trance and looked to my right. My classmate Ava stared at me with a concerned look.
"Sorry, Ava."
"No need to apologize. Are you okay, you've been out of it all class period."
"I'm fine, just distracted."
"Well you've been distracted all of last week as well," Ava spoke in a hushed tone as she scooted over her notebook towards me. "Here are some notes I took from today's class, I suggest you look over them and write your own copy."
"Thanks, Ava. You're a lifesaver."
"Yeah… whatever." She pushed up her glasses as she continued to stare at the whiteboard in front of the classroom. Her notes were messy as usual, but they had a good portion of today's lesson from Professor Jefferson. "You really need to get your shit together, Indigo. I'm not always gonna be here to save your ass."
"I know, Ava." I sighed while trying to write my own notes, "I just haven't been in the right mindset lately."
"I get that. But whatever is keeping you from focusing you need to deal with it soon. I know how important these classes are to you and I'd hate to see you fail because of some… distraction."
"Yeah… you're right."
4:30 pm came sooner than I thought, causing everyone in the class to flood out the doors. I picked up my notes and put them away in my backpack.
"Bye, Indigo. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye, Ava." I walked out of the classroom and started heading to my elective class. My heart started to race at the thought of seeing Lily again. Knowing that she was in my next class was comforting yet was also torturous.
~Okay, breathe. You got this, you can talk to her and fix this.~
-Are you sure we shouldn't get a gift for her?-
~I really don't think a gift will fix things between us, Shadow.~
-It's not meant to fix things, it's just to show her you care. We have thirty minutes till the next class anyway and a flower shop is five minutes from here.-
~Flowers? Really? That is the most cliche thing I've ever heard. Hey Lily, I'm so sorry I was an inconsiderate dick. Here are some flowers to show you how sorry I am. It's not like gifting flowers is the most standard thing a man gives when they fucked up. ~
-Well… you kind of did fuck up.-
~Shut up, Shadow.~
-I'm just saying.-
~Fine… I guess flowers won't hurt.~
I managed to quickly run to my car and head to the flower shop. It was a small building with a rose painted on the window. As I swung the glass door open I heard the ringing of a bell causing a young woman wearing a green apron and gloves to come up from the back of the building.
"Hello and welcome to the Flowerscape flower shop. How may I help you today?"
"I was hoping to find a bouquet of flowers."
"Let me guess, for a special lady in your life?"
"Yeah, that's about right."
"Well there are some premade flower bouquets on the rack over there," She pointed towards a rack to the left wall of the building, "If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know."
"Of course."
I walked over to the premade bouquets and found many flowers of different shapes and colors.
-Ooo, look, Indigo. They have a bouquet of lilies. We should get those for her.-
~Don't you think that's a little too on the nose?~
-What do you mean?-
~Her name is Lilyanna and you want us to give her lilies. I'm sure there were a lot of other guys who thought that it would be the perfect flower bouquet for her. Trust me, women whose names contain a flower will most of the time hate that flower. A bouquet of lilies is probably the last thing she wants.~
-Oh… you're likely right. What about the bouquet on the top right?-
I glanced at the top right of the rack and found a small bouquet of sunflowers and roses. The roses were a dark shade of red and the sunflowers were a soft orange with yellow tips. I didn't know why, but I had the feeling that Lily would love it. I grabbed the bouquet and a flower vase and headed to the register. After I paid for everything I checked the time on my phone.
~4:40 pm~
As I drove back to campus I parked my car in the parking lot closest to the building where Literary Theory and Criticism 101 was being held. I grabbed the bag containing the carefully wrapped vase and bouquet and steadily got out of the car. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Lily rushing across campus toward the building.
"Lily!" I waved in her direction.
She turned her head to me for a slight moment before quickly turning back as she ran through the main doors.
-Is she okay?-
~I don't know, let's find out.~
I ran towards the building and began following Lily's scent.
"Lily!" I shouted as I ran around the other student's bodies. She did not waver and went straight to the classroom. The crowded hallway made it difficult to move, forcing me to slowly weave around the other students. I finally managed to reach the classroom door and walked inside. Lily was still sitting at our usual table. She strenuously whipped her head back and forth. It was like she was paying attention to every single movement that was happening around her. As I walked closer I noticed that her leg was bouncing up and down rapidly. She began to nervously bite her lip as her eyes wandered around.
"Lily?" I stood at the edge of my seat and stared down at her. Her silver eyes peered up at mine, glazed in red.
~Has she been crying?~
"Lily, are you ok?"
"I'm fine, Indy." She said with a nervous smile.
"You don't look fine. What's wrong?"
"Nothing, okay!" she snarled.
I slowly sat down in my seat keeping my eyes on her. I wanted to talk to her but I didn't want to push her anymore, so I stayed quiet and focused on today's lesson. I gently placed my backpack and the bag of flowers under the table. Once in a while, I would glance back towards Lily, her eyes always bouncing between the whiteboard and the door. She held a black pen over her notebook about to write. Yet her hand remained above shaking heavily. I tuned into my enhanced hearing and focused on Lily. Her breath and heart were rapid as she remained frozen in her seat, twitching ever so slightly. I reached over to her hand and tenderly placed mine on hers. Her head turned to me at the feeling of my touch.
"Lily… what's wrong? You're not acting like yourself. What's bothering you?" I spoke softly under my breath."
"I… I can't talk about this right now," she whispered.
"Okay, okay. How about after class then?"
"I don't think I should. It's nothing you need to be worried about."
"You saying I don't need to be worried only makes me more anxious. Please Lily, if it's something bad let me help. I know we're not on the best terms right now… but I hate seeing you like this." I caressed her hand with the edge of my thumb, her body became less tense and she lowered our hands to the table. I stared at the tears that were now running down her porcelain cheeks.
"I… I can't. I'm sorry."
"Alright, but I'm here for you if you need me." I gave her a soft smile before returning to my notes. Once in a while, I glanced at the hanging clock, watching the clock hands move as I waited for class to be dismissed. With each pass of the hand, a soft click reached my ears. As each click signaled the passing of time I grew more nervous, my stomach in knots. The clock finally struck six and students began to leave their seats. I spun back towards Lily who was now putting her things away in her backpack. Shortly after I began putting away my things and grabbed both bags from under the table.
"Lily, before you go I have something for you,"
"What?" She peered at me, her eyes wide.
"I just wanted to apologize for my behavior on Thursday. I got excited and started moving things too fast. I know it won't fix anything, but I want you to know that I want to try."
"Indy, you don't have to give me anything."
"I know, but I already bought it… so here." I pulled the bouquet and handed them out to Lily. She spent a moment staring at them before taking ahold of the flowers.
"Sunflowers and roses."
"Do you like them?"
"Sunflowers are my favorite." She lifted the bouquet to her nose and started sniffing the sweet fragrance of the flowers.
"I'm glad you like them."
"I'm just glad they're not another bouquet of lilies." she chuckled.
"I also got you a vase to go with it. I'd put them in water when you get home, I bought them before class." I grabbed the bag with the paper-wrapped vase and handed it to Lily.
"Thank you, Indy," she smiled softly, "I'm sorry about Thursday too."
"Can we sit down and talk about it? It doesn't have to be today but… hopefully soon?"
"Sure… I just need some space."
"That sounds perfect. I'll be here whenever you wanna talk."
"Okay." she softly smiled before leaving with a bag and bouquet in hand. As I watched her leave she seemed a lot calmer, which made me a lot happier. I walked to my car and started to head home, the sun was starting to set in the distance. Suddenly I started to see flashes of images. They were of a different apartment than mine, the place was wrecked. Glass was on the floor, and drawers were rummaged through.
~What the fuck?~
I then saw a person walk in front of me. She has long black hair and her skin was a light chestnut.
~Una? Why do I see flashes of Una? ~
Another person came into view, someone I did not recognize. I heard a scream as a lamp was smashed into the side of Una's head causing her to fall to the floor. The unfamiliar man then walked up to me and grabbed me by the throat. I gazed at the ground as a bouquet of sunflowers and roses fell to the floor.
~Lily!~
I quickly turned the car around causing other cars to honk as I barely grazed past them. I put my foot down on the gas pedal and drove there as fast as I could. The memory of the vision replayed in my head.
~Hold on Lily! I'll be there soon!~
