Chapter 2 - The Game Begins

The rest of that night went smoothly. As I promised, I stuck by Jason at the party. I was with him when he went to talk with his football friends and he was the same with me. Eventually, he took a bottle of Vodka from Brooklyn's wine cabinet and we settled in one of the guest rooms upstairs. Talking about Brooklyn, I wonder where she is. This is her party, and yet I haven't seen her all night. Maybe she's planning something. The thought made my eyebrows scrunch up in frustration. "You'll look like the grinch if you keep doing that. "Jason commented before having what we called 'hiccup attacks'.

"You want?" He held out the almost empty bottle of vodka to me. Jason weakly chants "Chug" in the background as I downed the remaining bit, a wide smile spread across my face. "I did it!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands around Jason's body. We fell over due to the fact that we were way too drunk at this point.

We stared blankly at each other before erupting into laughter. "You're so drunk right now." Jason swayed. "Yeah well- so are you." I 'booped' his nose and giggled at my random action. "Wow, you're so warm!" I gushed. "Unlike Amelia." I mumbled more to myself. "Thanks." I hummed in response.

I snuggled into his chest, us not daring to change positions. His hands wrapped around my body resting on the small of my back. We laid there and talked about random stuff that came to our mind, before drifting into plain silence. "You know.." I started breaking the silence. "I really really like you." I looked up at him to see his response. Weirdly enough, his face remained the same as before. "I know." He answered plainly after a hot minute of just staring at me.

My eyes widened in genuine shock. He knew? "Why didn't you say or do anything then?" I asked, a confused look on my face. He sighed, the smell of vodka strong in his breath. "I didn't say anything because.." He paused. "You were a great friend and I just didn't want to break your heart." He explained. "What- What do you mean?" I questioned. My voice broke and tears began to well up in my eyes.

Deep down, I knew what he was going to say. I just didn't want to accept it. I'm afraid if I do, then it will ruin the little fun relationship Jason and I have. Jason sat up, causing me to have to ease off of him. "Brielle.." He started. "Here it comes." I mentally prepared myself. "I'm dating Brooklyn." Of course. The cheerleader always gets the jock. That's how every typical high school movie is like. It is never the weird, nerdy outsider. A tear slipped down my cheek followed by a pool of my tears. I knew I never had a chance since I started crushing on him. I knew and I've tried to stop myself but Amelia just kept leading me on. I know she was just trying to help me but, part of me can't help but blame her for causing this very moment to happen.

Just then, the room door flung open. My back remained turned so I never saw who it was. However, I heard a soft girl's voice. "Sorry to disturb you two, but Brooklyn wants you downstairs." "We're gonna play games!" she squealed before I heard her footsteps disappear down the hall. Then Jason turned to me.

"Brielle- Just go." I interrupted him. "Tell Amelia I'll be down soon..please." I sniffled and he nodded. "I'm sorry." He whispered before getting up and leaving. I just sat there in silence. I've just gotten my first heartbreak. "Yay me. "I sarcastically cheered. I let out a depressing chuckle as I got up and made my way to the joint bathroom.

I looked in the mirror and was disgusted by the sad, broken girl who stared back at me. Her hair was a mess, her eyes red from crying, tear stains on her face, her makeup was a mess and her whole appearance just read, "broken". I rinsed my face, washing off most of my makeup. I found some spare in the bathroom cabinets and fixed my makeup. I made my almost tangled curls into a messy bun. Before leaving I planted my signature fake smile on my face.

Due to my head suddenly spinning, I took my time going down the overly fancy staircase. I grabbed a small bottle of water from the kitchen before maneuvering the massive downstairs halls until I found the game room. The party had died down. Most of the kids were either passed out or already gone home. The game room was the most scarce of them all. Including myself, there were only 6 of us.

Me, Amelia, Brooklyn, Jason, Catherine, who is Brooklyn's best-friend, and the Blake boy from earlier. Apparently he's a friend of Jason's. "Hey, Brielle! Come sit with us." Amelia called me over to where she and Blake were sitting. Reluctantly, I went and joined them. "Hey guys." "Sup." Blake answered. "Where were you tonight? I thought you left without me." Amelia informed me of her concerns. "Sorry. I was with Jason." I mumbled. Getting a bit annoyed talking about the events.

"Omg girl- did anything happen?" Amelia squealed happily, making my cheeks flush red. I opened my mouth to answer but Brooklyn cut me off. She scoffed, "Of course not. Jason has standards, you know." Amelia flipped her off as I rolled my eyes at her comment.

"Anyways-" She shrieked. "I have a devilishly long list of games we're gonna play tonight, and everyone must participate. " Our eyes make four at the end. "Game number 1! Is…spin the bottle."

The ridiculous games went on for what felt like years. "I want to leave." I finally blurted out. Everyone's eyes turned to me, causing me to feel small and kind of targeted. A smirk appeared on Brooklyn's face. "Are you bored, Ms. Fairmont?" "Yes, very much." I answered almost instantly. Since when did I get so bold? "Alright then." Brooklyn paused for some time looking at me. "I came up with this new game called, Kiss, Marry, Kill- Sounds interesting enough, Brielle?" her eyebrow raised. I shrugged in response. To be honest I just wanted to go home. The faster this night ends the happier I'll be.

"How is the game played?" Blake finally spoke up from the games started. "It's pretty simple actually. You are given three people, fictional or non. You must decide which one to kiss, to marry, and to kill and you can only choose each option once. Then, you reveal your decisions and we start over again." she explained. "There'll be 10 rounds. Who'd like to go first?"

"I guess I volunteer." Jason suggested. "Perfect." Brooklyn whispered. "Hm..who to choose?" She glanced at me and a bone chilling grin appeared on her face. That's when I knew tonight won't end well. "Oh, I know!" She chirped. "Jason- kiss, marry, kill, Me, Amelia, and Brielle." I would say I'm surprised but the alcohol in my system is currently preventing me from lying.

"Dnag, that's a hard one." Jason hissed occasionally glancing between me and Brooklyn. "Make your decision now, Jay Jay." Brooklyn demanded in an annoying whiny voice. "Okay, I'm ready." Jason took an unnecessarily deep breath. "I'd Marry you, of course." He looked at Brooklyn who giggled in response. "Now, for kiss and kill. My apologies, but I'd kiss Amelia and kill Brielle." My breath hitched upon hearing those words, and my heart went into overdrive.

The grin on Brooklyn's face grew massively as she clapped her hands like a giddy child. I swear, this girl lives off the downfall of others. All of a sudden, it became hard to breathe. I started hyperventilating. Am I having a panic attack? No, not now please!

I forced myself to my legs and grabbed my bag. "I-I'm going home." I mumbled to Amelia in between breaths and walked off. Behind me I could hear Brooklyn laughing and Jason and Amelia yelling at her to shut up. That's good at least. I made my way out of the house as quickly as I could. I fumbled to get my phone out of my bag and dialed my driver's number. After a quick phone call, I hung up and started to make my way towards where he'll pick me up.

I sat on the cold wooden bench under a big oak tree. I managed to calm my breaths and heartbeat but my head started getting dizzy. I heard a "beep" and saw that James had reached. "Do you need help, ma'am?" James called from the driver's seat. "No, I'm good." I reassured him. I made my way into the back of the black limousine. "Is Ms. Amelia not coming?" He asked, driving off. "No." I sighed.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. That's the last I saw any light that night.
