In the magnificent and intricate palace, there was silence and no one else around.
A candle flickered gently ahead.
Guided by it, Wu Xiaode followed the Ghost Queen, step by step, up the ancient, mottled stairs.
"How's the view?"
The Ghost Queen spoke with a tone of pride.
This was the highest watchtower in the entire palace.
Since the palace was built on a mountain, looking due east from the watchtower, one could see a vast and desolate land.
To the west of the castle was the black Sea of Death.
To the north were the snow-covered mountains, where it was said prehistoric undead that had existed for millions of years slumbered in the endless, silent snowscape.
"Do those beings in the snow mountains ever wake up?" asked Wu Xiaode.
"Rarely, and even if they do wake, they just consume some of the low-level undead nearby and then go back to sleep," the Ghost Queen explained.
Wu Xiaode looked toward the south.
