Her pen danced gracefully on the note and her hand shook vigorously with sweats, dribbling down her face. She had forgotten to complete her history homework yesterday. She was a tall, fair skin toned girl, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Her lips were thin and small, and her nose was pointed." Damn it. " She cursed under her breath looking agitated as she had torn a piece of her book by mistake.

" Hey, Emily." A blond-haired boy greeted them, walking towards her desk. He was fair-skinned, with thin lips as well. His eyes were oceanic blue and he smelt of the scent of Earth, after rain.

She glanced at him and turned towards her note. "Not now Charles." She responded, and continued writing down her answers to the questions asked.

Charles was Emily's childhood best friend. They lived in the same neighborhood and were always seen together. Charles was the type of boy any girl would wish to have to herself. He was charming, easygoing, and supportive. He was the " Flawless man" in the eyes of all the female students. Girls would drool over him and would envy Emily for her luck.

Though they appeared as the perfect couple, they never had intimate feelings for each other or so Emily thought. Emily was the only girl that Charles would do anything for. But unfortunately for him, she didn't seem to reciprocate the same feeling. He never told her how he felt about her, due to fear of losing her for good.

Her legs tapped softly on the ground, as she dabbed the sweat from her forehead. "jeez!" she cried out, pulling on her hair tightly. "Ugh!... This is just frustrating," she complained and ripped out a page from her book. She squeezed it into a ball and threw it on the floor.

"Hey!" a mean-looking girl yelled at her. " You shouldn't litter you know?" she said with a contorted face, looking quite disgusted by Emily's action.

"Can you just shut up?!!" Emily asked with furrowed brows. Exhaustion and frustration were evident on her face. She was literally on the verge of breaking down from the stress of having to think much.

The mean-looking girl stood up from her desk, dropping her book on the desk. " Who the hell do you think you are talking to, you old hag?"  She asked and took long hasty strides, towards Emily's desk.

" Ladies there's no need for confrontations." Charles intervened, picking up the paper. He knew that Emily was the defaulter, but he also knew she was too angry to accept.

The mean girl gave Emily a death glare " I am letting you off because of him, but never you talk back at me that rude…. Ever!" she warned." And that is a warning Emily Wills." she added.

The whole class was as quiet as a graveyard, as everyone waited in anticipation of Emily's reply. Emily stood up facing the mean girl, as they both gave each other murderous looks.

"...And what happens if I do? Why should I listen to you anyway?" she asked after what seemed like an eternity. She have had enough and was ready to dish out her frustration.

The girl tilted her head to the side with a questioning look. "Isn't that obvious? It's because I'm the class president and you are not." She bragged." Now, why don't you say that again, grandma?!" She dared and flashed a quick smile.

" Can you guys just stop already?" Charles asked. He did not want a fight to break out between the two girls. He did want  Emily to appear like a princess in distress, as she looked quite weak at the moment.

" I have a name, Charles." The girl replied instead" So address me by my name." Christine added and her eyes darted towards Emily, which just got Charles more worried.

"Ok sorry, Christina." He apologized hoping she'd left. He knew if everything goes south, Emily alone would face the consequences while Christine goes unpunished.

Christina wasn't like most normal mean, dull girls.  Both she and Emily were in fact, the class's hottest brains. There was always a competition between them for the highest grades.

Unlike Emily, Christina was the school's idol and was known as the fashion goddess. She had high tastes in fashion designs and wore expensive clothes. Her parents owns a fashion company and were well known in Los Angeles. She gave Emily one last murderous glare before she left for her seat.

Soon a man walked through the classroom door. He wore big brown pants and a white shite with a goofy tie. " Good morning students. My name is Mr. Michael Cromwell and I'm your new history substitute teacher." He introduced. The students heaved a sigh of relief, as a lot of them haven't written their homework.

Mr. Michael smiled at the students." since you all know my name, how about I know yours? The only way we can all understand each other is by getting to know ourselves. Creating a bond between a teacher and his students." He said as his eyes scanned all the students in the class. " let's start from you there." He said as he pointed at a small blue-haired girl.

The blue-haired girl looked timid as all eyes were on her. " My..my name? she asked slightly confused and surprised. She didn't expect him to pick her first. She knew he was going to pick someone but why her? She thought. She was a row away from the student in the front seat. She had expected him to start from the first row of the seats, but he caught her unawares.

" Ooh looks like Clara is crushing on the substitute teacher." A girl whispered behind her and chuckled with her friends. Clara's cheeks suddenly turned tomato red from embarrassment, as soon as she heard that.

" Are you nervous...." Mr. Michel haven't completed his sentence when she quickly interrupted.

" Clara Davis." She replied quickly and buried her face in her palm. She felt so uncomfortable right now and did not want anyone to see her tearful eyes. She knew she wasn't crushing on him, but she couldn't stand the invading eyes of her classmates.

Mr. Michael was confused by her actions but decided to ignore them at the moment. The introductions were done rather too quickly, and the students began their lesson.

...

During lunchtime, Emily and Charles grabbed their lunch from the cafeteria and sat together to eat. As usual, Emily received murderous glares and unpleasant comments from the envious girls. She didn't seem to notice but Charles did and tried not to say a thing about it.

A boy walked towards their table with a tray of food. " Hey, you mind if I sit here?" he asked with a smile.

Charles was frustrated as a vein threatened to pop out from his forehead. His jaw worked and his fists clenched under the table. " I'm sorry bro but you…." He tried to object but was interrupted by Emily before he could.

" Oh sure… you can sit here,"  Emily said and flashed a weak smile.

" Thanks a lot." He said and dropped his tray on the table.

Charles noticed that Emily kept staring at the black-haired boy and it irritated him even further. " Oh! you must be Gerald" Charles said, trying to start up a conversation.

" Yes….and you must be Emily," Gerald said with a smirk on his face.

" Yea… Emily Will's." she replied and shook his extended hand. " you must be the school president." She added and he smiled.

Charles looked disappointed with Emily at the moment. He couldn't believe that she could allow him, to sit with them. He stood up, as he couldn't stand it anymore." Am going back to class, care to join me?" he asked Emily.

" Will be there… shortly." She replied, turning him down right on the spot. She turned toward Gerald, to continue her conversation with him.

Charles fist balled up and his muscles clenched. With brute force and fury, he punched Gerald on the nose and a fight ensued. It was saved to call it a one-sided fight, as Gerald did not return a single punch. Charles's fist and shirt were soiled with blood and Emily with other students tried to stop him.

The commotion attracted some of the teachers, who got everything under control. Gerald was whisked away to the school health care unit to be treated. He gave Charles a murderous glare, as he touched his bleeding nose.

Charles's eyes darted toward Emily and were disappointed to see her shocked look. She looked at him like he was some sort of a stranger.

" Charles Smith, report to the principal's office." A young beautiful woman said." And the rest of you, you may continue with your lunch." She added.

" I'm sorry Emily, I couldn't help it." He apologized and left, with his head bent low in shame.

The students began to gossip about the fight. Some of them threw even more deadly stares and nasty comments at Emily. If only looks could kill, then she would have been blasted into Oblivion. Not being able to withstand the humiliation, Emily left the cafeteria in anger.
