Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 The Audition

"Good news baby girl" he said happily from the phone.

"What's up?" I asked eagerly.

"We have got a new project dear" he replied immediately.

"Really? What's it about" I asked sitting up.

"You've heard about Vicious right?"

"Yea, it's that movie adaptation of the book I guess" I replied.

"Yes. So, they are gonna start the casting for the movie soon and you were invited for the audition". He said excitedly.

"What role" I asked in anticipation.

"It's the role of the main characters friend who later dies when trying to help her friend escape".

"Seriously? Another dead persons role?".

"C'mon it's a good role and it's no small role you know" he said calmly.

"I know. I was just teasing you. I've read the book before so if they are going to shoot it exactly like it is in the book then I'm going to have a considerably good amount of screen time compared to all my previous work".

"That's true. But nothing is certain yet as alot of people wants the role. You have to prepare hard so you can get the part. I'll email the script to you so practice hard for the audition tomorrow". He said but lowering his voice at the last sentence.

"What? Tomorrow? That's too sudden" I said speechless.

"I know, I know, I just got the call and I didn't want this to pass us by. You can still get it if you prepare hard this night" he said in a comforting tone.

"Why is my life so hard" I said pretending to cry.

"C'mon girl, I'll come pick you up early tomorrow so be ready and dress nice" he said and ended the call.

I laid back down on my bed then I got a notification. He had just sent the script by mail so I started studying it. The character I was playing was Rachel. She was very timid and always scared. She was the best friend of the mainlead. They went through thick and thin together where the mainlead always protected her because of her inability to stand up for herself. Most of her scenes are her trying to talk the mainlead out of doing dangerous things and hiding behind the mainleads shadows. At the end, when she finally decided to be brave, she lost her life but was proud that she was able to do something for her friend at the end. This character may seem boring but she conveys alot of emotions. To be able to play this character very well, I need to get into the feels. I need to feel what she's feeling and think like her. I ran lines through out the night and I was super exhausted. I didn't even know when I slept off.

Martin's call was what woke me up. He was already here to pick me up. Uncle Dran let him in while I rushed to go get ready. I put on a plain black tee and cargo pants with a pair of black sneakers while I tied my hair into a bun. I rushed downstairs and had a quick breakfast of cereals.

"You look so simple" Martin commented.

"Is it a bad thing" I replied before going to get water.

"Not really. Just hurry up we need to be there before 9" he commanded.

"Yes your highness" I teased.

I informed Uncle Dran about the audition because I couldn't tell him yesterday. He wished me luck and we headed out. On our way, I kept running my lines and trying to get into character. When I was younger, I have acted in various stage plays before, and recently, I have gotten only really small roles with little screen time so this was like a big opportunity for me. I was nervous and I didn't want to mess things up.

"Chill girl, you're going to do well" Martin said when he probably noticed how nervous I was.

"It feels so strange when you're nice" I said smiling.

"You know what? I take it back" he said smiling lightly.

"Why can't you just accept a compliment"

"Was that a compliment?" He asked jokenly. After this we had regular conversations and that really helped calm me down for the mean time. We got to the venue and it was full with different actors auditioning for various roles. I had heard that it was a famous director that was going to be in charge of the movie. I went over and got my number. Martin left me to go handle some business but he came back later with drinks and gossips. He had heard that someone with connections had already secured the role I was auditioning for. He complained about how unfair everything was. But why was he seriously telling me this now, I was nervous as it is and I needed encouragement and not a certainty that I was bound to fail. Well, since he was not going to encourage me I had to do it myself. I assured him that it was only a baseless rumor and we shouldn't worry. It was my turn soon and I got really nervous.

I was number 9 and number 7 had just been called inside. With the way the faces of those who had been called inside before me were when they came out, it was obvious they didn't do well. I had to encourage myself before I had a nervous break down. Soon the girl before me was called and I was waiting for my turn. I kept running my lines. I didn't know exactly which scene I would be asked to act out to I just flipped the pages but my eyes landed on a scene played by Veronica. Veronica was the evil half sister of the mainlead and she was the major enemy. I liked this role better as I never really like the good girl charade. I read the lines and acted it out in my head. At least it helped me to be less nervous.

"Number 9 please come inside" the voice that has been calling the participants announced and I saw the girl before me leave. I grabbed my bag and went inside with my heart beating fast. This is not the first time I was going to be performing in front of people and all the other times I was equally as nervous as I was now but I always knew how to control my nervousness and deliver a great presentation. I knew I was going to do well. I walked into the room and politely greeted. I looked up and scanned the room until my eyes fell on him.

Anthony??
