Chapter 4 - Next to my safe zone

I ran to the window. That was a space suit connected to the spaceship in front of my eyes.

"Is the one inside the suit Chithak?!" I yelled at the coatmen.

I tried to open that damn door from my side. But nothing worked. Suddenly a little screen on top of the empty slot of the cupboard started making a sound. Hearing that sound all the coatmen behind the door started screaming again. I went towards it and had a closer look. It seemed like the vitals of the person who was wearing the suit. Everything was dropping in the blink of an eye. The door didn't open no matter what they tried. I looked around to see if there was anything I could do for him. All I could see was a picture describing how to use the space suit.

"Am I crazy or something just to even think about what I am trying to do right now? He is the reason why I am trapped here!"

I tried my best to not even think about it. But when the screen started increasing the beep sound I couldn't resist anymore. I wore the spacesuit carefully as fast as I could, connected the cable to the deck, and open the door facing outer space.

I could see everyone behind the door looking at me speechless. In their eyes, maybe they saw someone brave, but inside the suit, I was shivering and tearing scared to death.

I told myself, "Everything will be alright. Nothing is coming towards the ship right now. So it will be fine. All I have to do is to bring him back. You can do this"

First I tried to pull him back using the wire he was connected to. But it was impossible. So I had no other choice, but to jump out of that ship. According to the instructions, I slowly moved closer to him. Thank god they had a picture description of that room. If it was a word description I would have never been able to control that.

Chithak was inside the ruptured suit and he was conscious. He moved his arm a little bit and pointed towards a ruptured area in the ship. Then I grabbed him and moved towards the area.

There were four pipes, all broken, and through them, gas came out. Chithak handed me over something like a tape and at the same moment, he lost his consciousness. I was speechless.

"What am I supposed to do with a tape and a broken pipe? Am I supposed to tape the broken pipe? Is that even possible?!" I asked the unconscious man.

But when I touched the tape I understood, that was not a simple tape. That was the hardest material I have ever seen rolled into a tape in my life.

I rolled the tape around the broken areas quickly and moved back to the ship. Everyone was delighted and wiping their happy tears inside their masks. Then the siren stopped and the lights turned back to normal. The door that they couldn't break was opened automatically. Everyone came running into the room. They bowed to me continuously and took chithak into the infirmary.

I took that heavy suit off and inhaled a deep breath. I couldn't believe what I did. Honestly, I felt so happy and proud of myself. I couldn't help but smile until my jawbones started hurting. But when I saw the galaxies far away through that window again, my happiness faded away instantly.

Everyone must be so worried about me. They must have seen the videos of me being dragged into a UFO. My mom and dad must be weeping their hearts out somewhere among those stars. It was at that moment I realized that there is no way for me to escape. Where am I supposed to run even if I escape? It was the vast universe all around the ship.

My heart started aching. I missed everyone so much. I wanted to go back to my world. I wished I could tell them that I was fine. But there was no way. So I wiped out the tears rolling down my cheek before anyone could see them.

All I had left was to obey whatever these human beings ask me to do. I thought, as long as I don't make any trouble, they won't hurt me. Since I was mistakenly dragged here, they might bring me back to earth if I do nothing wrong.

Working with them as if I was alright will never be easy for me, but right now all I needed was hope for me to move forward. Even If it was a false hope, it helped me move forward.

After a deep sigh, I turned back and moved out of the room. One of the men in a mask showed me the way back to the infirmary. Inside, Chithak was lying on a bed unconsciously. Outside the informatory was his damaged spacesuit. Seeing me looking at Chithak they opened the door and let me inside.

He had a lot of bruises on his face and body. The different armamentariums that were connected to him were very strange to me. Though most of our flexible medical devices were made out of plastics and rubber, all they had was a very sturdy material similar to metal. Even the flexible tubes had, appeared like metal to me. Maybe because I was a medical student, I kind of sensed what each machine must be used for.

Though all the machines seemed to be different, It was a human being that was being treated using them. So I touched his wrist gently with my fingertips to check his pulse. He had a very stable pulse and it made me relieved.

All I wanted in my life, ever since I was small was to help others. Since I got to help someone out, I felt happy. I moved the chair next to the bed closer and sat beside him because he was the only person I knew inside this whole flying saucer and I felt safer when I was with him.
