[Contract received. Request for assistance on planet 069| Name: Charon| Population: Near extinction| Race: Mixed.]
I tried to blink, but there was nothing there. More precisely, I was nothing, or at least I was missing my body.
I thought back to my last memories but then winced as I remembered the building that had fallen on me.
There was something else, my name and title, Harlem, Rebirth Extinction Specialist, or RES. Things were starting to come back to me now, and I knew what I was doing here.
The text before me wasn't inspiring, and I wondered if Odeon would let me skip this one.
"I will not. This is your job, so you do not get to pick and choose where you go. As a RES Member, you are expected to do your part, and you made quite the mess of the last world you were in, so I hope you plan to redeem yourself this time," Odeon, Keeper of the Oracles Eye said.
"Odeon, don't be like this. You had to have been watching! That world was a walking disaster!" I complained as my body started to form in a small white cubical.
"Considering you are the same, I would have thought that you and that planet would have gotten along better! Harlem, I won't lie; you are the best RES specialist we have, and you gave Sodeon the kick it needed to prosper, but you break everything that you touch!" Odeon complained as he paced back and forth in his business suit.
"Stop giving me such stupid abilities then! What is the point of having a system that makes me physically stronger if there is no one to fight with? The world had no evil! It was hit with a fucking meteor! So what do you send me with? Full Metal Equip System! NOT A SINGLE THING TO HELP REBUILD WITH!" I roared, and Odeon waved his hand.
"Fine, that was my fault, but you could have found ways to use it to help!" Odeon complained, and I sat down on the ground.
"I am not going anywhere until I see the paperwork signed, and I would like to be paid for my last job! I was supposed to be going on a holiday right now! You were not supposed to even be here! Where is Mira?! She told me that I would get time off and that you had filled the proper paperwork! All Lies!" I complained, crossing my arms.
"Mira is already working on another project. The Fate Unified Corporation Kings is busier than ever these days. Natural disasters are hitting planets more often than the alien races, but most of our RES officers deal in attacks from aliens or locals. You are one of the very few that specializes in natural disasters," Odeon told me, but I rolled my eyes.
"Good for you. Now, you can either go bring me the signed System Card, or I am leaving. You and I both know that I don't need to be here. You need me more than I need you. You suits have no idea what it's really like to have to die just to get a day off," I said, and Odeon sighed.
"Why must you always be like this?"
"Do you really think I would be like this if you weren't so damn incompetent? Don't even try to blame this on anyone else! You were in charge of the System and got me a random one!"
Odeon sighed, but the door to the room opened, he left, but someone else came into the room after he left. The man was Greg, one of my best friends and a fellow RES Officer.
"So, getting killed by a whole building? That must have been a rush!" Greg laughed as he came and took a seat beside me on the ground, pulling out a cigarette pack to hand to me.
"Would have been better if my dumbass didn't bring it down on myself," I groaned as I pulled a white stick out of the pack.
"Better you than all those people, right? You got a lot done for just a month and helped tons of people!" Greg laughed as he lit my smoke for me.
"What about you? What are you still doing here? I was gone a month, so that is thirty minutes that you have just been sitting around?!" I complained.
We were on the clock right now, and every minute that we were on a planet bought us more time to be able to enjoy the sweet life. That meant being rebirthed on a vacation planet for up to ten years at a time, depending if you have the time saved.
There were other reincarnations that you could waste your time on. For me, nothing beats endless women, drinks, and every type of paradise that you could think of!
"I had a one weeker, but the planet was too far gone. I had the Eco System that helped me repair some of the damage, but the event that summoned me to a planet covered in radiation. I actually just ended up dying of radiation poisoning. Horrible stuff, I don't suggest trying it," Greg laughed, but it sounded hollow.
"Wow, that makes my death feel like I hit the lotto compared to you," I said, taking a drag.
"Whatever, I got three months as a bonus from it, so there is that. Why are you still here? I thought that you would have already been heading to the Vacation Worlds Department?" Greg asked, and I coughed.
"Three months for one week?!" I exclaimed, but Greg punched me.
"I would sooner not get the time and not have to live through that, jackass. Still, why are you still here? Don't tell me that you are going out again?" Greg asked, and I sighed.
"There ain't no rest for the wicked, and time doesn't grow on trees. I got bitches to fuck and mouths to fill, but nothing in these endless lives is free!" I sang, punching Greg back.
