Chapter 8 - enemy of my enemy is my friend

"Damn, this guy is really strong," he thought. Looking at his arm, which regenerated in a matter of seconds, he was thankful it was filled with RC cells at that moment. If it hadn't been for the feasts he had recently, I doubt he would regenerate to this level.

He quickly analyzed the situation.

"Interesting Kagune," he thought as he looked at Jason; his Kagune was entirely different from what he had seen before. As far as he remembered, it was called a kakuja.

Unfortunately, he hadn't awakened that form yet, but he knew it was close. Maybe some psychological pressure would activate it, or more pain. He urgently needed that to become stronger, and today, this fight would do that.

Focused in his thoughts, he heard Jason's wild scream as he charged like an unrestrained animal.

"What an idiot, lost all rationality. Good for me, bad for you," Hayato thought.

Hayato admired the power, but it was useless in a disturbed and irrational mind. Although he was a possible sociopath, he would never sink into madness at that level, or so he believed.

While Jason approached like a cannonball, Hayato, on the other hand, used his kagune as a dash, using it as an impulse to dodge Jason. His rinkaku-type kagune allowed him to do so.

Bam!

A crash could be heard; it was unexpected. Jason hit the wall with all his force and got stuck like an idiot.

Seizing this opportunity, Hayato advanced towards Jason, making his rinkaku take the form of a jackhammer. His strategy was to make the point of his kagune as piercing and resistant as possible, piercing through Jason's body and killing him.

Trapped, Jason regained some of his sanity; perhaps the fear of death made him come out, at least a little, from the berserk mode.

There was no time for him to dodge that attack; he went through the wall with such force that his arm got stuck. He would free it, yes, but all he could do in retaliation was to defend.

And that was what happened; all Jason managed was to defend against Hayato's imminent attack. Pulling his arm and body from the wall where he was stuck, he turned and waited for the blow to come.

"ARGH!"

Receiving Hayato's attack, he groaned, and now it was his turn to be thrown away, the entire building infrastructure was crumbling because of this fight.

When Jason finally hit the ground, his state was at least pathetic. His arm, which was protected by his kagune, was now exposed, and the bones could be seen. His fingers were destroyed. In fact, you couldn't see a hand there, only his arm up to the elbow was injured. Indeed, the kakuja was incredible, a formidable defense.

"I envy you," said Hayato, advancing again towards Jason. There was no time to waste.

He was also on the losing end of this; despite his powerful kagune, he wasn't a kakuja. Even though he was stronger than most ghouls he had faced, he still came out injured. He didn't expect Jason's defense to be that strong.

Hayato's rinkaku was partially destroyed by the impact; it couldn't hold and was shattered. In fact, destroyed. The pain was awful; it felt like some vital organ that kept him alive was damaged or taken away. Immense pain took over him, but still, he moved toward his enemy.

"Idiot, Hayato!" Jason roared as he got up; the fight was just beginning.

"Hey you, stop!" a voice emerged from the rubble.

When Hayato and Jason looked, they saw some soldiers.

"They finally arrived. Aogiri lost? A bad bet, indeed," Hayato thought to himself. He didn't expect the Dove soldiers to arrive so soon.

"If they're here, then the old man is gone? But the girl is still here. Something happened, I need to know."

Hayato turned his gaze to Jason. He considered a temporary alliance until they eliminated those soldiers. "The enemy of my enemy is my ally."

He held no grudge against Jason. In fact, even if they were thought to be different, they were actually similar.

"JASON, try to listen to me, Aogiri is probably retreating. Maybe they got what they wanted. We weren't informed, meaning we're left to die. If these doves are here, those bosses will arrive soon too. We'll be surrounded and we'll die," Hayato shouted.

Jason only heard half of what the other ghoul had said, perhaps because he was crazy or didn't want to listen. But he got the message.

He knew that being surrounded by the top-tier Doves, they would die right there.

Jason responded with a growl towards Hayato, which the other side understood as confirmation.

Now the two ghouls, who were about to kill each other, looked at the soldiers who had invaded the room.

"Huh?" That was all the soldiers could think at that moment. They were truly fucked.
