Chapter 7 - Chapter 07

Lycaon

The very name of the ancient being sent through the crowd chills that made the hair on their arms still with apprehension.

Growing up in a werewolf household, every wolf was bound to hear stories of the great Lycaon. He was known as the world's very first Lycan. The form in between human and their wolf. Every child was disciplined by their parents with the phrase and it was tradition to incorporate stories of the great Lycaon with early childhood development.

"If you don't listen to me, the great Lycaon will be under your bed tonight"

It was a sentence meant for children.

A sentence meant to be used as a silly threat, nothing more.

However, everyone felt that there was some sort of truth behind the being's words.

True, they had no reason to believe it.

But the probability of someone claiming to be the great Lycaon in front of so many people was so low, that the werewolves of the crowd knew not to brush the statement off.

Every other being present in the crowd who was not part wolf, did not really experience this sense of apprehension felt by the rest of the crowd present, after all they did not have a wolf and they had absolutely no way of sensing it.

This also meant that neither Mikkel nor Meghaal, nor even the other non-werewolf beings present had an ounce of an idea about the clear disturbance that had taken hold of the rest of the werewolf population.

However, everyone understood why they reacted that way as soon as Aeson Solar's wolf reached his target mid-pounce.

Or rather, his target reached him.

As soon as the being finished his sentence, Aeson Solar was thrown back to the wall with an invisible force with such a speed, that the heightened sight of a werewolf couldn't comprehend what was happening until he was pinned to the granite black wall, face red and clearly amid affixation.

"Son, stop this right now! Get a grip of yourself"

Hesiod stepped forward and gripped his son by his bicep turning him to face him.

"Told you pops. Your little brat is not here right of now."

The great Lycaon shrugged nonchalantly, face blank not bothered at all.

"Please stop."

Hesiod pleaded.

The Alpha was shocked. He was not ready to face such a situation, as a perfectionist, nothing like this ever crossed his mind, there was always no possibility of his son ever losing control to his wolf. Hesiod pleading was a sight to behold. None of the audience present, had ever thought they'd see the day a strong proud Alpha such as Hesiod Henderson would plead, and nonetheless in front of representatives from other communities. Furthermore, it was clear to everyone that the said Alpha was in denial of his son's 'condition', this was extremely clear by his reluctance to address the being as the "Great Lycaon".

"Just because you refuse to acknowledge my existence, doesn't mean your son is going to just magically get an actual wolf"

The great Lycaon sighed in annoyance.

"My son does have a 'normal' wolf. He has been shifting into one ever since he was twelve."

Hesiod defended.

"Ever wondered why that brat had amazing control over his wolf form?"

This made Hesiod frown.

"Yes. That's because that was MY wolf form, and he had control of it. Never once giving me the chance to have control over MY wolf form. Like, come on he uses MY wolf form, and never once let me borrow this stinky human body of his."

Hesiod's eyes widened in realization. Hades did have amazing control over his wolf form ever since he shifted, his control was absolutely phenomenal that through the years he was known as a werewolf prodigy.

"You cannot be The Great Lycaon. I'd appreciate it if you stop this nonsense wolf."

Hesiod squared his shoulders and posture looking at the being in the eye he frowned.

"I am NO wolf, Hesiod. I am Lycaon. I have a wolf form, yes, but I am not limited to a wolf by spirit."

Lycaon's voice had dropped a few octaves as he growled at the glaring Hesiod. He didn't like the disrespect emitting from the Alpha.

"That's enough you two"

The two said figures turned towards the oncoming figure of Lady Cleopatra and her four companions. Her white robes swished against the stoned floor, gushing along with the strong winds that blew from the mountains behind the pack land, veiling her average figure-like armor. The five of them walked in, falling into step together all at once as if they were trained to imitate their leader's very walk. The mask she wore obstructed the crowd's ability to perceive what she thought.

"With all due respect Lady Cleopatra, I'd like to ask you why you're here."

Lady Cleopatra angled her masked face to face Hesiod Henderson,

"What does it look like I'm doing Hesiod?"

The cynical tone in her delicate voice did not go unnoticed by the rest present.

"It's really nice to know that you're willing to help, my lady, however, there is no need. We have the situation under our con-"

Hesiod was interrupted by Lycaon.

"Clearly. Why don't you ask that sneaky Beta of yours huh? A man with no honor."

Finally remembering his injured Beta, Hesiod looked over to find him knocked out and being treated to by a few warriors and healers from the neighboring witch pack.

"You certainly don't want that happening to you now, do you?"

The nonchalance in Lycaon's voice when he directed this at the older Alpha, irked the Alpha himself as well as the warriors surrounding him. Werewolves did not take threats directed at their Alpha that lightly. If this were any other wolf, they would have instantly taken him down, however, this was their Alpha's son, Their future Alpha, who would have been their current Alpha right now had it not been to the very being standing in front of them insulting their Alpha.

An audible sigh passed through lady Cleopatra's white mask.

"Enough. Please. Step aside Hesiod."

"I think you should step aside Lady Cleopatra. This is a pack matter"

Mikkel thought nothing could make the situation worse, but give it to his cousin to twist it into a further spectacle.

"Step aside lad. This is no matter for kids."

She replied.

"If there's anyone who knows him, it's me. I could help calm his wolf"

Stubborn as always. Thought Mikkel.

"I really do appreciate your determination, but you don't know the severity of the situation."

The two continued arguing, trying to talk over the other, Hesiod joining in.

That is, until, one of Lady Cleopatra's companions interrupted them.

"Em.. sorry for intruding, however, I really think Lycaon needs to be dealt with. Like, right now."

The three debaters turned their heads to face the black-robed man, and eventually faced the direction he was pointing at.

What they were met with immediately seized their bickering. Walking into the panicked crowd was Hades' majestic grey wolf.
