The Marines on the island were just doing their duty so once they had seen some people that were looking a little suspicious and were trying to flee the island, their natural reaction was to go forward to capture them.
Justice burned in their hearts which fuelled their actions as they believed themselves to be in the right.
A terrorist attack had just happened so they had every right to go after anyone they believed to be connected to it.
If the criminals were willing to give in right away then they would not have to use too much force to put them behind bars before they would be put through questioning.
Once the cause of the bombing was discovered and there was enough to prove that the prisoners were not involved then they may have been willing to let them go.
The amount of time that it would have taken to investigate everything would take a long time after gathering eye witness accounts and checking who was connected to the attack.
If they were good at their jobs and could find the source of the attack then they would be able to clear the names of those they captured.
That was their belief but reality was usually much harsher when there were too many factors involved that would affect the final results of the investigation and they actually needed to be very good at investigating the crime scene to be able to clear the names of the suspects.
If the Minks were captured then it would be far too long for them to sit behind bars or they would be held accountable for what had happened so the Minks could not let themselves be captured even if it meant resisting.
Someone had to be held accountable if it was to please the higher ups so the Minks would be the ones to take the blame if they were incapable of finding the true culprits so it was even more reason not to give in.
Their lives would be spent behind bars and they would all be sent to Impel Down or worse, they would slip through the corrupt system of the Marines where they would become the playthings of nobles or be passed through organisations that dealt with human trafficking.
The Minks were just visitors that came from another land who were not an influence that was affiliated with the World Government so they were viewed as lesser than humans and those that were allied with them.
Those judged as lessers would have far less rights and could be taken advantage of by those they believed to be above them.
A group of Minks that had appeared on foreign soil could very easily disappear and be unable to return back to their homeland.
Each of the Minks that came from noble families like the Meridian family had been taught in early childhood enough to be able to handle such an event.
Lethal force was used against the Marines but they were not struck with enough force to be able to kill them.
The Marines that had been cut by the swords of Harley and Old Swifty had fallen down with a single slash wound on their bodies that they had tried to cover to stop the bleeding. "Ugh.."
"Ah.."
The remaining Marines that were still armed started to pull the triggers of their guns towards those in front of them but it was already too late.
The path had already been opened to allow the Minks to pass through them using the opening that had been created so each of the Minks had increased their speed.
The loud noises of the smaller guns and rifles being fired had spread out from their location.
The bullets had passed through where the Minks had previously been standing after they had tried to evade them.
There was a small location where a couple of trails of blood had fallen to the ground which showed that one or more among them had been hit by one of the bullets.
The first shots had been fired but there was not enough time to reload or take aim again before the Minks had pushed their way past them all.
Some that were the closest to the opening that had been created had suddenly been hit by enough force that was covered in Electro so their bodies fell back helplessly.
The Electro spread through their bodies so they were stunned enough for them to not be able to move anytime soon.
The numbers of the Marines were reduced in that group in such a short time before the Minks had continued to run towards the docks.
Once they reached the docks, the ships were within view but there were flames and smoke rising from the ships that were no longer in a good enough condition to set sail.
Upon seeing that scene, the Minks had paused for a moment and looked a little anxious.
It did not take long before Micah had spoke up. "Damn.. they attacked the ships too to cut us off from getting away. I guess we have no choice."
His gaze turned towards the distance where there were other ships that were docked in the distance. "We take one of them.."
No was no time for them to consider whether they were in the right or wrong in what they were doing since their hesitation would lead to them being captured.
There was a small bullet wound on the arm of Felice which was bleeding out so she was performing even more poorly with every passing moment.
