Chapter 18 - Chapter 17

-Alpha Hayden's POV

″Can we now discuss why you and my baby sister were going at it all night, alpha Hayden?″ Emmet asks.

Goddess, could this morning get any worse?

″I don't think you should tell him that you two drank and made out all night,″ Ace smirks.

″Shut up, Ace! I don't have a death wish!″

″Although I think that would appreciate hearing how you screwed up,'' my wolf continues.

''Ace, I mean it!''

''You kicked her out of your bed, idiot! Forget about the snoring and the drooling, you kicked her out of the bed.

Like I don't know that!

We went to the living room after we made our bet and Evelyn found a stack of playing cards. We played a few rounds of Speed, had some drinks and we did made out a lot. Then Evelyn dared me to play a different game, what only lead to more drinking.

How we ended back in my bedroom is a mystery to me, but I do remember that Evelyn snuggled up to me in the middle of the night and that I felt like the luckiest guy in the world.

That feeling faded, because all the alcohol made me snore and not softly. No, I snored like a chainsaw that was determined to cut down every tree in the forest. That was already bad enough, but I did also drool and then the worst thing that I could do happened.

My arm was getting numb because Evelyn was laying on it and I tried to gently move her, but I failed miserably. I didn't realise that we were sleeping so close to the edge of the bed and I rolled Evelyn straight out of my bed.

I was an idiot and clearly Evelyn thought so too, because she basically stormed out after that.

″What are you talking about, Emmet?″ alpha Jake asks and that reminds me that I was not alone in this kitchen.

″I'm talking about the fact that alpha Hayden and our sister were playing a game all night, brother. My game to be exact.″

Alpha Jake frowns, while I try my hardest to act normal as I make myself some toast. I'm a terrible liar, but Evelyn was very clear. She didn't wanted anyone to know about our bet and that included her brothers.

″You played Emmet's version of Bullshit, alpha Hayden?″

I nod as I refill my coffee, but from the corner of my eye I see that alpha Jake is slowly getting up.

″Did you win?″ alpha Jake asks.

″He did,″ Evelyn grumbles as she enters the kitchen and plops down on the counter. Sitting crossed-legged she puts her hair up in a messy bun and there goes my breakfast.

So far so good. This was Evelyn being Evelyn.

″Next to the little alpha he is the worst liar that I know, but apparently he is some kind of Bullshit mastermind!″ Evelyn says as she takes a bite out of the toast.

″Then how is it that it didn't feel like I won?″ I ask as I grab a new cup. ″Whenever I won at that card game my choices were to drink or to answer your embarrassing questions.″

″What did you expect from a game that is called Bullshit?″ Evelyn yawns as she holds up her cup to me.

″I have to make a new pot, so be patient. Finish my toast and the answer is yes. You will regret it if you take my coffee again.″

″Worth it!″ Evelyn says as she grabs my cup and takes a big gulp.

In three, two...

″You put cinnamon in the coffee!″

″I did, don't you like it?″ I ask.

″You know I hate cinnamon! I told you that last night and...″

Evelyn looks at the coffee and she shakes her head. ″I'm not playing that game with you ever again, Hayden. This was your strategy all along!″

″Well, it would be nice if I could finish one cup of coffee myself,″ I sigh as I sit down at the table.

″Play nice children,″ Emmet says with a grin as he switches his coffee with Evelyn's. ″You two still have to spend the entire day together. Remember that you wanted to show alpha Hayden and beta Brock what kind of safety measures you installed, Ev?″

″No,″ Evelyn answers. ″But that doesn't matter. Be ready in ten and should I ask if the old grey one can go instead of you?″ Evelyn asks as she looks at Brock.

″Why can't beta Brock join you, Evelyn?″ alpha Jake asks. ″Nothing against Graham, but protecting the pack is as much the responsibility of a beta as it is of an alpha.″

″Yes, but the old grey one doesn't have a daughter who is sick and who needs her dad,″ Evelyn replies as she stretches herself out. ″You ladies figure it out, but I will be leaving in ten minutes.″

Brock looks very annoyed when Evelyn leaves the kitchen and I know that I should feel the same way as him. Evelyn addressing us as ladies is annoying and disrespectful, however I'm pretty sure that she only made that comment to guarantee that Brock would stay home with Cleo.

In her way she was actually being sweet and considered.

″Alpha?″

″Yes, Brock.″

″Why are you smiling like that and did you even hear me say that Graham is going in my place?″ Brock asks.

″I wasn't listening, but that's fine. You should stay with Cleo and I was smiling because I don't know how Evelyn did it.

″What did she do?″ Emmet asks.

″She made sure that I'm not getting any coffee this morning, because she took the damn coffeepot with her,″ I answer as I get up again. ″Keep me informed about Cassandra and Brock let me know how Cleo is doing.″

With my toast in my hand I make my way outside and I almost bump into Graham. He is standing on the porch holding the coffeepot in one hand and my dress shirt in the other.

″Should I even ask, alpha?″

No!

- Evelyn's POV

″The haze gave you the perfect excuse to be done with him!″ Sybil grumbles. ″One night of fun and everything would have returned to normal. Why complicate things with that ridiculous bet?″

″The snitchers are in place and soon we will be able to connect them to the cameras,″ I explain to the old one and Hayden while I keep ignoring my wolf.

″Patrol will still be necessary, but they will be able to work much more effective with the support of the surveillance team.″

″Very impressive, but what surveillance team are you talking about?″ Hayden asks. ″It was never mentioned before.″

″I'm telling it you right now,″ I answer annoyed as I reach for my pack of cigarettes. ″My brother's pack will be running the surveillance for now, but only until your own team is ready to take over.″

″Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want...″

″Alright, who would be suited for that?″ Hayden asks. ″Kai and the twins perhaps? They are all into technology stuff.″

No, not that song!

″To Bermuda, Bahama, come on...″

″Shut up!″ I growl. ″Shut up!″

″Don't tell me to shut up!″ Hayden snaps at me.

″I'm not telling you to shut up!″ I snap back as I try to find my lighter.

″Way down in...‴

″He is the one who walked away! I was going through the haze, I stood naked in front of him and I pretty much begged him to have sex with me. He still walked away. So be mad at him! You also don't have to worry about our bet, I was just being practical.″

″Practical?″ Sybil repeats.

″We can't lose, Syb. I don't want a mate and I never forgot the real reason why we came here.″

″Alright then,″ Sybil says and she retrieves to the back of my mind.

″You just told me...″Hayden begins. ″What in the name of the Goddess is your wolf doing?″

″What are you babbling about?″ I mumble as I light up my cigarette.

Hayden snatches the cigarette out of my hand before I even had the chance to take a puff and that pushes me over the edge.

″For the love of the Goddess, why can't I ever smoke a cigarette in peace? Halve the time I'm not allowed to smoke and the other halve I lose my cigarettes because of shit like this!''

″Okay, calm down you two,″ the old one steps in. ″This is just the lack of sleep and the hangover talking. Evelyn, could you please ask your wolf to stop whatever she is doing to alpha Hayden?″

″I never had a proper education, but that doesn't mean that I don't know when someone is patronizing me! The answer however is no. Sybil is mad at him and I'm not getting in the middle of that.″

″Why is she mad at me and why does that mean that she has to sing Kokomo at the top of her lungs?″ Hayden asks and his eyes darken. He was starting to lose his temper.

Well, he could join the club!

''Evelyn, we are ready to start phase three,'' Jake mind links me.

Luckily for Hayden the sound of motorcycles and my brother giving me to go ahead makes sure that I don't completely lose it.

″Where are you going?″ I hear Hayden ask, but I ignore him.

I take a shortcut and soon I find myself near the main road. There were a least a dozen bikers heading my way and I light up another cigarette.

Goddess I missed riding my motorcycle!

One of the biker slows down when he sees me and one look tells us all we need to know.Rogue.

″Ready to have some fun, gorgeous?″ the rogue asks.

″Always,″ I answer with a smile.

The rogue also smiles and I could already smell how aroused he was. He clearly thought that he found himself an easy lay and that was exactly what I wanted him to think.

″You just want his motorcycle, don't you?″ Sybil smirks.

″Obviously,″ I answer as I get on the motorcycle.

″And to prove to a certain alpha that you were serious about the terms of that ridiculous bet?″

″That too and about starting phase three, but I do really want his motorcycle.''

″Good girl,″ Sybil says and she really sounds pleased.

From the corner of my eye I see movement. Hayden is standing in the shadow of the treeline and his gaze is set on me. I can feel him trying to mind link me, but I block him.

I don't don't belong to you, alpha. I'm a lone wolf and now you will learn what that means.
