"Brittany Hope Copper!" Lisa yelled. Oh crap! Brittany thought as she pushed Seth away and hopped off the car. Lisa was already marching towards them, "There's no need of pushing him away! I've seen it all" Lisa said and glared at Seth.
"Lisa this is my...boyfriend, Seth" Brittany introduced and Seth gave Lisa his good boy smile, "Hello ma'am. Nice to meet you" "And Seth this is Lisa, my..." Brittany tried to find the word. "My...my..." "Forget it!" Lisa said and looked back at Seth.
"Don't give me that good boy smile. Wait! You look vaguely familiar" Lisa said then she held his face and ran her hands around his face as she closed her eyes and hummed. Seth looked at Brittany who just shrugged.
"You're Zed's best friend!" Lisa finally said as she let go of his face. "Best bud. The best friend sounds too girly" Seth said and Brittany rolled her eyes. Lisa looked at Brittany, "Zed still has a girlfriend?" Brittany could not understand why Lisa was asking her that in front of Seth, "Uh...yeah! They are so...in love" she said as she remembered Taylor getting jealous that Zed was calling her Bluebell.
"Shame. He would have been better" Lisa said as she looked at Seth then she walked away. Brittany made sure Lisa was quite a distance away before she put her arms around Seth's neck and kissed him, "Don't mind her. She's just doing that to get you all riled up so that you won't break my heart". Seth put his arms around her waist and smiled, "I know that's what she was doing but comparing me with my best bud? That's completely unacceptable" he joked and she kissed him again.
"Brittany Hope Copper! Get your lips off of that boy!" Lisa shouted and they quickly let go of each other. "How can you see from that far? You're old!" Brittany shouted back "Old! But not blind! I got the eyes of an eagle. Get your pretty butt here now!" "Coming!" Brittany rolled her eyes then she looked at Seth.
"I'll see you tomorrow" she said and he nodded then he was about leaving but Lisa shouted as she did the air quotes, ""Good boy", you're staying for lunch too!" then she went inside.
Seth looked at Brittany, "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" he asked and she shrugged then she held his hand, "Only one way to find out".

Brittany was regretting it. Seth was regretting it. Lisa was all smiles as she moved around pouring lemonade for everyone. Oh yeah! Damian looked very uncomfortable.
When Lisa had "invited" Seth for lunch, Brittany had gone along with it because she thought it would be a good idea, for Lisa to get to know him better so that at least she would know that someone who meant so much to her, approved of her and Seth's relationship.
But it was a terrible idea because sitting at their table was Scott, Mr. David Thompson, Mrs. Myra Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Damian Thompson, Brittany and Seth. Lisa was just moving around serving lemonade.
"So...Seth! How long have you been dating my daughter?" Scott asked and Seth looked at Brittany, "A month and two weeks". "That's a long time...I thought Brittany won't even spare you another glance" Scott said as he took a gulp out of his lemonade. "Well I did spare him more than one glance. I glared at him, stared at him and finally gazed at him and I won't stop" Brittany said and smiled at Seth.
"Does he make you that happy?" Scott asked and Brittany nodded, "Yeah!" Scott placed a piece of roast beef in his mouth and chewed for some time before he continued, "Well I still think Damian would have made you happier". Brittany rolled her eyes and Seth bent his head. "Right, Damian?" Scott asked and Damian looked at Brittany and Seth.
"I don't know. Brittany never gave me a chance" he chuckled and sliced his roast beef. "Dad! I'm dating Seth and I'm happy" Brittany said as she held Seth's hand.
Damian looked at their hands and clenched his fork. Myra noticed it and she rubbed his hand soothingly. "Yeah Scott! They like each other, why don't you just drop it?" David said as he looked at Damian. "I know and I'm sorry. It's just I really think Damian would have been better. I mean he's rich and---" "Dad just drop it!" Brittany said and Scott raised his hand in mock surrender.
"Which school did you go to Seth? Cos I don't think I've seen you in Disnee" Scott said. "Oh! I went to the school opposite Disnee" Seth said "Euphorium?" Scott said then he laughed. Everyone at the table just looked at him except Lizzie. She was just enjoying the steak Lisa had given her.
"That's such a low class school. Everyone who has passed through that school must have some STD of some kind" Scott said and Brittany looked at Seth who was clearly not happy and wanted to leave.
"Which college do you plan on attending?" David asked and Seth looked at him, "I got a scholarship to read Economics at Berkeley" he said and Myra smiled, "That's good. I also studied Economics" she said. Her toothy grin made Seth feel relaxed.
"Brittany is going to Harvard to read Business Administration and when she comes back, she's going to take over my company" Scott bragged and Seth nodded, "That's very good for you and your daughter" he said sarcastically. "David, didn't you say Damian was going to Harvard to read Medicine?" Scott asked and David tried to read the room. There was tension. "Uh...yeah!" he said and gulped down his glass of lemonade and Lisa went to refill it. She too was not happy with the way things were going.
"Are you and Brittany going to continue dating while you're in college? Can you guys do long-distance?" Scott asked Seth then he looked at Brittany, "I don't think long-distance relationships suits you. But lucky for you, Damian would be there and---" "Mr. Copper, your shrimps are ready" Lisa said as she served Scott a plate of shrimps covered in butter.
He smiled and started eating them. Everyone was happy that he had stopped talking. "Lest I forget, Brittany, the money you took, what did you use it to do?" Scott asked and Brittany's heart started beating fast. She had not told him that she had used it to pay for Horus' surgery.
"She used it to pay for my younger brother's lung surgery" Seth said as he stared at Scott who just gave a forced smile and gulped down his lemonade. "That money would have been used to expand the company...but you used it for charity. Copper Publishing Company is not an organization for charity cases!" Scott yelled at Brittany and Seth hit the table then he got up and glared at Scott.
"Don't you dare call my brother a charity case!" he growled. "I may not be rich or I may not have gone to Disnee and sorry I'm not going to Harvard, Mr. Copper! But I'm proud of who I am, I'm proud of meeting and falling in love with your daughter. Sorry I'm not good enough like Damian! But I like myself and I'm not going to change just because you don't like me!" he said and took his jacket, "Thanks for the meal ma'am" he said to Lisa then he left.
"You just don't listen, do you?!" Brittany said exasperatedly and got up then she followed Seth out. Damian got up and ran after her then he held her hand, "Don't go after him" he said to her. He knew he had already lost her to Seth but he still had a string of hope that she would be his and he did not want her to go to Seth now that he had left her. Brittany flung her hand away from Damian's grasp and ran after Seth.
"Seth!" she called out as she saw him walking towards the gate. He didn't stop walking. She ran after him and stood at his front. "Get out of my way Brittany!" he said without looking at her. "I'm so sorry about what my dad said. But just know that I love you" "I'm not as good as Damian" Seth mimicked Scott's annoying voice.
"I don't want Damian, I want you! I love you! Why are you doing this?" she asked tearfully and he looked at her, "I love you too Brittany. But maybe we need space" "Why?" she asked and he looked away, "Cos everytime I'll look at you now, I'll remember the word charity case" he said and walked past her.
Brittany fell down to the ground but Seth didn't look back. He knew it was painful but her dad had called his brother a charity case. He was the victim here. He just needed time to clear his head.
Damian ran to Brittany and put his jacket around her, "Are you okay?" he asked and she looked at him. Shit! Another weakness created; a heartbroken Brittany. She burst into tears and he hugged her.
He wanted her so much but if she being his would make her bawl so much, he'd rather be heartbroken and watch her being happy with someone else.

There was a knock at Brittany's door and Lisa came in, "Brittany, are you sleeping?" she asked and Brittany nodded. Lisa chuckled and sat on her bed. Brittany hugged her pillow tight.
"I'm so sorry about what happened today. I shouldn't have invited Seth inside for lunch. I thought your father would be happy that you had found someone you liked. But I was wrong" she said and sobbed. Brittany sat up and held Lisa's hands, "Don't blame yourself Lisa, it's dad's fault" Brittany said and Lisa nodded, "Solely! I'm not even going to support him this time and I'll understand if you hate him" she said and they laughed and hugged each other.
"I'm sorry for making it seem like it's your fault" Brittany said and Lisa smiled, "It's okay" she said and tucked some locks of her grey hair behind her ear. "And about that your "good boy", he's quite a charmer" Lisa said and Brittany blushed. "Aww...look at you blush. Do you like him so much?" she asked and Brittany nodded but then she became downcast as she remembered what Seth had said.
"Did you guys break up?" Lisa asked and Brittany shook her head, "He said we should take a break" "Oh honey, I'm sorry" Lisa said as she held her hand, "It's not like we're breaking up, it's just a break" Brittany said and Lisa rubbed her hand and smiled, "Get some sleep" she said and got up then she left.
Brittany waited for a few minutes before she got up then she left for her father's room.
When she got there, he was carrying a bottle of whiskey, "You're drinking? Again?" she asked and he looked at her and sighed. "After what happened that night, you still have the guts to drink? After you called my boyfriend's brother a charity case, you're drinking?!" "Brittany let's not do this" he said as he sat on his bed.
She walked to him and leaned on the four poster bed, "No! We're doing this right now! How dare you call Horus a charity case? It was not his fault that he had a collapsed lung and if you're going to shout at anyone, shout at me! Because I was the one that forced Seth to accept my help. He didn't want me to pay for Horus' surgery, I forced it on him so don't go calling his brother, a charity case!"
"Understood! Now can you go? I have to sleep early" Scott said and laid on his bed. "Why are you being so nonchalant after you ruined my relationship with Seth. Do you even care about my happiness?" "I do, that's why I think Damian would be better than Seth" he said with an eye roll and sat up. "Well I don't want Damian, I want Seth and now he's not talking to me cos everytime he looks at me, he'll remember the word charity case!"
"Then maybe he didn't love you enough" "Just like the way mom didn't love you enough?" "Brittany!" he thundered as he got up, anger clearly written on his face. "What? Want to choke me again? Want to see if I'll die this time?" she asked as she moved closer to him and he moved back.
"Did you even bother to know how I was faring after that night? I was sent to a children's home, I was called a freak for having nightmares and do you know why I did not go for therapy?" she asked, tears welling up in her eyes. "It's because I thought we could heal each other of past scars. I thought I would heal you and then go for therapy and heal myself. I thought that you would heal me and then go for therapy. I thought so much about the both of us but none of that BS came to pass. We are still broken strangers with the surname, living under the same roof!" she said and walked out, her Japanese themed night robe, flying behind her.
Scott fell to the ground and held his head. He looked at the bottle of whiskey on his table and pushed it down, the glass bottle shattering into pieces.

Brittany sipped her iced coffee then Damian sat in front of her, "Hi!" he said and she looked at him, "Hey" she said and dropped her coffee.
"How have you been? We haven't really spoken to each other since...you know" she said and he nodded, "Which was my fault" "It clearly was" she smiled. "You know, I didn't think you'll want to see me again" he said.
"Why wouldn't I want to see you?" "Because...I thought you hated me" he said and she laughed, "Hate you? Damian why would I hate you?" she asked and he shrugged, "I don't know. You slapped my books out of my hand and told me that I was in your way" he said and she choked on her coffee.
"Are you okay?" he asked as he patted her back gently and she took deep breaths, "I'm fine" she said and arranged her hair, "Damian, I don't hate you. I was only trying to match your energy so that you would know how much it hurts to see your friend hate you" "Oh! I guess...it was bad. After that day, I wondered if you hated me and then I just gave up and said who would like someone like me?" he chuckled.
She shook her head, "Don't degrade yourself. You are the most lovable person, Damian. If we had met in another timeline without Seth, I would have fallen in love with you" she said and held his hand, "I'm sorry I didn't fall for you and I broke your heart. I just hope we can be friends again" she said and he smiled, "Yeah! We can be friends!"
"Really?" she asked excitedly and he nodded, "We are going to see each other at Harvard. Wouldn't it be awkward if we were ignoring each other?" he smirked and she smiled, "I'm so glad you're back!" He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, "Umm...can I get a hug?" he asked, his face and neck turning to a deep shade of red.
"Of course!" she said and they got up then she put her arms around his neck and he put his arms around her waist and pulled her close. To make it seem friendly, she started patting his back. Damian was about to cry. She was never going to be his, only in another timeline without Seth. He just hoped that in that timeline, his doppelganger was happy with Brittany, as his girlfriend.

Seth munched his doughnut happily and Zack rolled his eyes, "I think all the food I've given you is past the favour I owed you. We're even so don't expect me to bring food free of charge to you" Zack said and Seth took the can of coke and took a huge gulp then he burped, "Take it as you're doing it for Horus, not for me" he said and his phone rang.
It was Dumbass💞💞(Brittany). He declined the call and continued munching on his doughnut. His phone pinged but he didn't check it. He knew the message was from Brittany.
Zack looked at Seth's phone then at him, "You're still ignoring her?" he asked and Seth licked his fingers. "What did she even do to you? Her dad was the one that called your brother a charity case. She stood up for you" he said but Seth still didn't say anything.
"You're just gonna let things end like this with her. Do you know what she has done for you? She changed your whole life man! But you just wanna leave her because her dad called your brother a charity case. You know your brother isn't a charity case, so why does it hurt so much? Brittany was the one who forced you to accept her help. She saved Horus bro! Don't let her go to Harvard tomorrow with that nerd, without you patching things up" Zack said and picked up the delivery bag and left.
Seth dropped the doughnut and the coke and folded his arms. He missed her. He missed her so much. He wanted to answer her call and meet her so badly but he couldn't. Whenever he thought of her, he remembered the word charity case. That wasn't supposed to happen. Whenever he thought of her, he was supposed to remember her silliness, her beauty, her snobbishness and her dumbness which were very cute.
He sighed, maybe they didn't belong together. She was going far away. Could they do long-distance if they worked out? What if she ended up falling for Damian? It was just best to end it before he couldn't trust her.

Brittany looked at her phone. No missed calls or texts from Seth. She was leaving for Harvard today and they were still not talking.
"No luck?" Lisa asked as she entered Brittany's room and Brittany shook her head. Lisa hugged her and kissed her forehead, "It's gonna be okay" she said and let go of her, "Hurry up! We're about leaving for the airport" Lisa said and left.
Brittany called Seth and as usual, it went to voicemail; "This is Seth and I just want you to know that I'm not too busy to answer your call, I just don't want to talk to you, leave a message after the beep!" Brittany blinked back the tears that were about falling, "Uh...hi Seth...I don't know what to say to you cos I've already said everything I wanted to say to you before" she chuckled and sniffled, "Love is a huge word for teenagers and we might not know what it means but...I love you. I don't like you, I don't like-like you, I love you. I love you so very much and that was why I did those things I did for you, paying for Horus' surgery, paying off your debt to Yogi and sending your mum to rehab. I just wanted you to stop worrying about other things and focus on loving me. I'm leaving for Harvard in few minutes and if long-distance doesn't work for us, I just want you to know that I cherish the time we spent together. I cherish spoiling the oven and you yelling at me that I'm dumb, I cherish pranking you till we got suspended, I cherish our little arguments and our moments at the lake, I cherish the fact that you gave me my first hickey and that you were the one to take my virginity" she sighed and smiled, "That's it! I love you and I'll miss you. Bye!" she said and hung up.
She applied more powder to her face then she rolled her luggage out of her room.

"Make sure you don't skip your meals" Lisa said and Brittany nodded. "Keep your ears warm and call me everyday" Lisa said and Brittany nodded. "Also---" "I get it Lisa, I'll miss you too" Brittany said as she hugged her and Lisa broke into tears.
Maddie hugged Brittany, "I'll miss you so much!" she said and kissed her cheek, "Make sure you go to parties and don't you dare find a new best friend!" she warned and Brittany smiled, "Of course! You're my bitch!" she said then she looked at Ken with shifty eyes, "Just because I'm whatever miles away, doesn't mean I won't break your nose if you break her heart" she warned and he nodded, "Will keep that in mind!"
Scott looked at her and she looked at him then he hugged her, "Take care kid!" he said and let go of her, "I've signed you up for therapy and counseling over there so don't worry about me and get rid of those nightmares" he said and she nodded, "I'll miss you dad" she said and he hugged her again, "I'll miss you too. I'm sorry for not being part of your childhood and I'm sorry for making you a freak" "I'm sorry for being such a bitch!"
"No more censoring? What changed Pumpkin?" he joked and she laughed. The last time Scott had called her Pumpkin was when Josie was still alive and when Brittany was just a little kid. "I love you!" he said "Love you too" she said and turned to Damian who was done with the goodbyes with his family.
"Shall we?" he asked and she nodded, "Let's take Harvard by storm!" she yelled and he laughed then he started rolling his box to the terminal.
Brittany looked back. No sign of Seth. She sighed and held her box and started rolling it to the terminal.
"Brittany!" she heard her name faintly. "Brittany!" "Brittany Hope Copper!" she turned and saw Seth running towards her. Everyone was just staring at him as he ran.
He ran and hugged her, I got your message" he said breathlessly then he let go of her, "Calm down" she said as he held his shoulder and her other hand on his face. He took the hand on his face and kissed it, "I know I can't ask you to stay but I don't want you to leave with things awkward between us" he said and took short breaths, "I love you Brittany Hope Copper. I haven't said that to a lot of people in my life so I really mean it. I love you so much and I'm happy that you love me too...so try not to fall for the nerd and break my heart" he winked and she laughed then she kissed him.
Brittany and Damian's entourage wolf-whistled except Scott who just scoffed and rolled his eyes. "I don't fall in love twice! You're the only one I've ever fallen for and that's not gonna change" Brittany said as she rested her forehead on Seth's.
"Passengers boarding flight CA2367, we are about to take off" came the monotone voice. "That's my cue!" Brittany said and she held her bag, "See you Seth Michael freaking Williams" she smiled and rolled her bag to the terminal.
Seth smiled as he watched her go. He was really happy that he had met and fallen in love with her. The memories came flooding in; from the time she had thrown sand at his eyes to escape from him, at the lake, to now when they were parting ways, with their minds completely on each other. They had gone from enemies to friends and then lovers. And he had enjoyed every minute of it.
They might fall in love with someone else in college but it would not change the time and the feelings they shared for each other.
He turned and slowly walked away knowing that Brittany would not look back.
