Heaven torn asunder

Drew's eyes went wide, taking a gasping breath; my heart stopped, my chest tightening painfully before I could try to speak. "Gintry told me someone paid him a lot of money to kidnap me while I was in China—whoever it was wanted to make sure Vincent wasn't here to stop them."
The skin of his cheeks turned purple. He grunted with each breath, and I knew—this was his worst fear coming true. The things I dreamt of—the 'visions' of events yet to happen tried to warm me. I thought I was saving him, but I had sealed his fate instead. "Not my son!" he sobbed, finally breaking apart completely.
The tone in his voice was pure agony. The grittiness and pure despair were unlike anything I had experienced—the pain on his face, this gut-wrenching realization trying to sink in. This wasn't a pain many could understand; there were just a few that had to suffer like this. What was I to do?
