Chapter 63
Jumping ship
Drew POV
Her face twisted, tears welling in her eyes; this knot of terror grew, the regret settling in instantly. "What I meant—"
"I'm sorry." She took a few quick breaths, pulling back from me.
It felt like she grabbed my bleedin' heart from my chest and ground it with her heel. No words could explain this grief sweeping over me. "Please just forget I said anything." In that moment, I was desperate to keep her close; the fear of losing her again was driving me bonkers.
"No, Drew." Her head shook, the tears falling helplessly from her eyes. My heart and breath caught in my chest; the overwhelming urge to cry tried to burst from me. "I can't forget that you asked—" she swallowed hard, looking to the floor. "I'm sorry, but I can't marry you right now."
