The fragility of his smile wavered, a boat of emotions sloshing in the tide. "Whatever that thing was, it wasn't our son. He wasn't anything more than a clump of cells still."

"Think about it; you told me that vampyres are only created by taking the life of their mother—how would this exist? Look at Dimitri, he is basically a normal guy despite being your son. It doesn't seem likely—"
"Stop." He demanded, cutting me off. "Just stop trying to make me feeling better."
I took another hit off my blunt and buried it in the ashtray. "Fine, but if you didn't want to be comforted, what did you come here for?"
"Whatever it was, it was a mistake." He dismissed me, stepping up on the railing.
"Are you seriously angry at me for not hating you? Did you come her to get some kind of punishment?"
