Dimitri returned, the smell of the mortal all over him. Was he indeed foolish enough to confront him on my behalf? "Where have you been?"
He wore an air of annoyance on his face and defied me. "None of your damn business."
What did it matter? We both knew what happened, but neither of us enjoyed the outcome. So I would slide down further in my chair and attempt to hold myself together. As much as I wanted to have a tantrum and murder a few people, my willpower would keep me in my chair.
That was all I had these days, the ability to keep moving forward by sheer willpower. Kavielle is mortal, and she would grow old and die. That was a fact that could not be changed, but there is this comfort knowing her feelings for me were alive and well—today, that changed.
The tinge of fear in her scent—unacceptable!
