Filling in the blanks
Drew POV
He sat on the stool across from me, his dark eyes locked on the counter. I hadn't noticed it before, but you could see small changes in his demeanor. It was as close as he got to emotions, I imagine. "Of course, I am more than ready. I need to know the truth."
Nodding just once, he started, "Many years ago, my father, in his crusade to be most powerful, enlisted the power of a sorceress. This sorceress then helped him track and kill all witches with the capability to manipulate time."
His eyes lifted to mine, he examined me closely again. "The very last of them was a woman named Vella Bourete. She proclaimed that she could never die and that she would come back and take the happiness from everyone he loved." The black of his eyes looked almost human now, his brow furrowing against his flawless skin. A pang of empathy hit me, and in that moment, I realized something big.
He lost her too.
