Drew POV
Who was she to ask me that question? I didn't walk away from our marriage; she did. I gripped the handle a bit harder, wishing I could crush it with pure willpower. "No, I don't think it should be," I rasped unintentionally through my teeth.
"Please, Drew, have mercy. Don't make this harder on me than it already is."
When I turned to her, the heartbreak was written on her face. She was still suffering, even with her breakthrough tonight, she felt alone. Even if I did want to be with her, she wasn't ready for that, but I couldn't just leave her alone again. "Let's keep in touch. Just friends. I feel like we could both use that."
She nodded, sniffling a bit. Poor thing was falling apart still. "Thanks, that would be nice."
