A fateful encounter
The café was pretty busy. I knew it would be another hour before Stacy would be off of work, but I thought I would get a drink and enjoy some of the winter-time sun LA had to offer. There was a hoard of children lined up outside, a pleasant looking woman leaned over talking to them. I didn't much care to be around children, so I sat outside, watching as they all rushed in, chaos ensuing.
Slightly annoyed, I took a seat on the curb, just down the back alley. I had sat here plenty of times while working, so I would just hang here until it was closer to time. The intrusive thoughts tried to take over again. I recalled—our child would have been going to preschool this year—had they been allowed to live. Would they have been excitable and annoying like those kids?
I cringed at the idea.
