Shared moments of loss

The EMT walked us both to the hall; he radioed in a call for an ambulance to meet him out front. We had an entourage behind us, but it didn't matter. In that moment, all that matter was him. His face was stoic; he was holding it together just for me. My beautiful day, ruined. Something that, had I not taken that test, I would have thought was just a heavy period.
But, instead, I was here, watching my husband have to mourn the loss. The ambulance rolled up, the lights on, but no sirens. He led me to the edge, helping me into the back. I sat on the bed; the EMT asking if I wanted to save the dress. A resounding no came from my lips. They shut the door, leaving Drew standing outside.
