The altar of the funeral hall was adorned with blossoming flowers. White, red and yellow petals decorated the wooden altar. A photo frame of a woman was placed in the middle alongside a spirit tablet.
In the sea of people in black, Hisaki dragged her feet to join the people paying farewell at the altar. Tears blurred her eyes as they kept rolling down her cheeks, leaving blotchy messes.
"Hisaki, lean to me."
Her husband's voice echoed softly next to her, brimming with concern. His touch around her waist helped to refrain her from falling. Each of her steps was unstable.
They finally reached the back of the row. Standing there, Hisaki moved her head stiffly. Her tear-glazed eyes fell on an older woman wearing a black kimono. She was sobbing out loud in a relative's arms.
Hisaki was all too familiar with the older woman. The latter was the mother of her dearest best friend.
