"Why?" I asked in a desperate voice and then looked over at him. Immediately, his dark irises flitted across my face and he frowned, visibly irritated.
"What do you mean?" he asked as tears slowly filled my eyes.
"Why all this? Why don't you just let me go?"
My voice cracked from the pain and I also felt the warm tears that inexorably found their way down my heated cheeks.
"Quite simple. You are my mate and belong at my side, no ifs or buts."
Although he spoke very calmly, his voice always had this menacing undertone. I was beginning to wonder if he was just being nice to me because I was his mate and he was trying to impress me, or if he was a good person by nature. But the situation with my brother... He couldn't be a good person...
"Then please let me go to my brother so that I can at least find out how he's doing," I almost begged, but his eyes immediately became angry and before I understood why, he suddenly yelled at me so loudly that I couldn't blood froze in the veins.
"NO! He's an underling! The dregs of society and I certainly won't let you get in touch with him again!"
He hurriedly got out of the car, slammed the door, then came to my side. Cold-eyed, he yanked my door open, grabbed my arm with far too much force, and jerked me out of the car.
I was in endless pain at that moment, not only in my foot, but I didn't even dare to breathe anymore and clenched my teeth to avoid showing any weakness, which didn't quite work out as I had hoped with the tears that kept running .
This time he didn't toss me carefully over his shoulder, but instead pulled me by the sleeve of my pajamas, feeling pain through my whole body with every step. Crying, I was no longer aware of my surroundings at all and regretted having thought well about him for even a second. He was the devil himself and, as a superior, he probably considered himself to be something better than everyone else. Arrogant and cold as ice. He was the scum, not us underlings.
He then hastily opened the white front door of the yellow house, where we found ourselves in a small waiting room where several people were already sitting on the light-colored folding chairs. While a young man looked at me with pity, the three women next to him gave me jealous looks. Especially the blonde in the middle.
"What are you staring at so stupidly? If you want him, take him. I don't want him," I snapped at her, howling, and then noticed the Alpha's look at me. When I looked up at him, he gave me a warning look, which I only answered with an angry snort. I certainly wouldn't give in that easily.
When I looked back at the blonde, she immediately avoided my gaze and looked back at her fashion magazine.
Cowardly Chicken!
"You can come in, Mr. Campbell," I heard the older woman behind the counter and he pulled me through a door into a room with only a desk and a couch.
"What was that supposed to be?!" he growled angrily and let go of me on the couch, where I immediately sat down and ignored him as best I could.
"I'm talking to you!" He grabbed my chin and even hurt me slightly, making me growl softly.
"Let me go," I warned him and wanted to free my face from his hand, but suddenly he grabbed my neck and squeezed it lightly, which made me tremble with my eyes wide open.
"I put up with a lot of things from you, but not everything. You should learn very quickly where your and my limits are and also that I'm not a friend of disrespectful behavior!"
We stayed in this situation for a while. His hand on my neck showed me once again what a fucking asshole he could be, even as his grip slowly loosened.
My heart was beating uncontrollably and when he finally took his angry glare from me and turned away, I took a deep breath and resolved not to provoke him anymore. Otherwise I might be the next to be pointed a gun at. You couldn't know that about him.
While Silvan stood at the window and looked out at the street, I let my gaze wander to the door, which was knocked on at that moment.
"So what do we have?"
A fat little man with glasses entered the room, holding a clipboard that he appeared to be studying. Only when he closed the door behind him did he raise his eyes and of course greeted the alpha first.
It wasn't like I was the injured one!
"May I?" he then asked, laying the clipboard next to me to use his hands to push up my brown pajama bottoms. But he didn't get far.
"I do that!"
Silvan growled so loudly that the doctor immediately jumped and took a step back. When the alpha tried to touch my leg, I slapped his hands away and glared at him in disbelief.
"Are you crazy now?!", I asked him and pulled up my pant leg by myself. He really didn't have them all anymore. What would he want to do if this Bernd Hutzfeld, or whatever his name was, were about to touch my foot? eat him up? Probably...
When my calf and my foot were then completely exposed, the doctor carefully came closer and when he felt my foot, Silvan growled again, so that the man in the white coat twitched slightly again.
"You know what?" I hissed angrily and looked straight into Silvan's dark eyes. "I don't want to lose my foot because of your fucking jealousy! Wait outside!"
He was about to say something when I pointed my finger at the door, not avoiding his angry gaze.
His jaw clenched and he stood there with his arms crossed before he avoided my gaze and stormed out the door in anger.
When it clicked shut, I immediately heard the doctor exhale calmly and I was able to at least relax a bit myself.
"Thank you," he whispered, smiling slightly, which I only answered with a nod. Then finally my foot was treated.
Thank God!
****
Half an hour and two painkillers later, I limped back to the waiting room with my crutch, but to my surprise Silvan wasn't there. Finally I was granted a bit of luck.
The idea of swimming across the lake with my ankle and crutch bandaged crossed my mind, but when I laboriously opened the door and stepped out into the sun, the idea was immediately scolded again.
He stood in front of me leaning against his car, chatting amusedly with the blonde in the waiting room and didn't even look over at me when I almost fell into the bushes while running, even with my crutch. With the last of my strength I kept on my feet and hobbled over to them. I felt so shabby doing it, but suppressed all my feelings and just wanted to get away from here and be alone.
"There you are at last," he said, raising an amused eyebrow while I stood in front of them, panting and sweating from the effort.
The blonde just looked me down and then beamed back at Silvan while tossing her long hair over her shoulder. She must have thought she would look graceful doing it, but in her blue dress she looked more like Smurfette ordered from Wish.
bitches...
Standing was getting tiring, but if he thought I would ask him to drive me to his place, he was wrong. I had way too much pride in me for that.
"I'll see you then," I hissed through clenched teeth, knowing exactly what he was trying to achieve with the woman next to him.
Inwardly I laughed at the thought that he wanted to make me jealous and no matter if my hand was a little sore and trembling when walking from the crutches, I walked past them with my head held high in the direction where I assumed his house to be.
"Wouldn't you like me to drive you instead?" he then asked and I wanted to hit him in the head with the fucking crutch, or better yet her, because when I turned around briefly I saw her almost drooling for him in his black messing around with messy hair.
"I'd rather run!" I exclaimed, angry at the sight, and then turned back to the road, limping like Quasimodo to continue my walk of embarrassment.
Hopefully a truck would come and put my suffering away...
My foot was throbbing despite the painkillers and that stupid crutch didn't really help me walk, but that didn't stop me from doing what I was supposed to do.
"I'll drive her home, then we can go get something to eat," I heard his voice behind me and before I could make the next hop, he had easily picked me up in his arms and carried me to the back door of his car.
He nodded to the blonde who then took a seat in front and while I didn't want to be jealous, I hoped she would sit in one of the broken glass.
Arrogant goat!
He pushed me roughly into the back seat and then he threw my crutch after me and then slammed the door.
"So," he then said as he got in the front and immediately she smiled at him lovingly. How cheap!
The engine started, the car started to move and I just prayed to be able to get out again quickly, but to my bad luck, the two of them actually started talking, which only made the time go by even more slowly.
"As soon as I've handed in the nursing case, we'll drive off right away, okay?" he turned to her and she just laughed stupidly and then nodded to herself.
"The nursing case thinks that you could drive a little faster!"
Preferably directly against a tree!
He was staring at me in the rearview mirror and I hated it, but I had to admit that it really freaked me out to imagine the two of them going out to eat somewhere alone.
That damn wolfness!!!
Didn't my inner wolf see what an arrogant jerk he was? Even a blind man with a cane would see that.
When my eyes fell on my crutch, I had to laugh at my own joke, whereupon the two only looked at me questioningly.
"Isn't she quite right?" the blonde whispered to Silvan and my laughter stopped immediately.
"What did you say?" I asked her angrily, leaning forward a bit to see her side profile.
"You understood me!" She grinned backwards and when I wanted to pull at her ugly hair, Silvan braked so suddenly that I slammed my face full into his seat.
My head was pounding and I immediately grabbed my forehead to fall back with my eyes closed.
I didn't realize at all that we were already there, nor that he had already got out. It wasn't until he opened my door that I opened my eyes again and looked at the familiar house behind him.
"Can you do this on your own?" he asked coldly and without answering him, I grabbed my crutch and then hurriedly got out to hobble ahead of him to the front door.
"That was on purpose, wasn't it?" I glared at him as he unlocked the front door, but he just shook his head innocently.
"No, it was a mistake," he grinned, running a hand through his hair and then pushing the door open slightly.
Before entering the house pissed off, I sneakily slipped my crutch between his feet and then lifted it up with all my strength, causing him to groan and immediately fall over.
"Oh, I made a mistake," I said annoyed, stepping into the house and then slamming the door behind me.
What a shitty day!
