Chapter 1 - Utopia 1

In the pink morning light between when the sun rises and the moon falls, I look around and see a city of silver spears. Like a mountain, the silver city looms around me.All of the buildings come to a tall point in the center of the city. Surrounding this mountain are groups of smaller houses, similar to suburbs. Trees scatter the city, like tacks marking up a map.

As I walked through the streets, I saw that they were lined with the tan walls of canvas stalls. They were set up to provide people with fresh goods like fruit and dairy ー All picked by the worker drones that run this city and the surrounding farms. As I am on my little stroll, I look around and see the groups that gather for their own amusement. I go a little further and I come upon a park. It is full of children, playing children's games in the early morning sun.

I walked a little deeper into the park and came across a large fountain, surrounded by 12 smaller ones. In the middle of the large fountain is a large statue of the founders. In the other fountains are the statues of the founders with their families, all carved out of beautiful alabaster. As I walked through the fountain area, I looked for my friends, who said they would meet me here. I saw them, and together we started to walk to the middle of the city. And then I started to reminisce.

Everything has been perfect since I came here. I used to have to choose between fighting or working to be able to live a somewhat comfortable life in my final years. Here I was free of responsibility. I didn't have to fight my way through life anymore! And trust me, that makes a whole lot of a difference. I knew that this was a big change, but I loved it. I love that I didn't have to get up early and work myself to the bone to provide for my family.

I realized that we had reached the bottom of the largest building in the city. Collectively, we decided to go to the observation platform. We get on the elevator to the top, all the while talking to each other about how we've been in the last week. As we get off the elevator, we see the most beautiful sight that I will ever see in my life. We all look down on the city that we ー me and all of my friends ー have built. And then I feel it. A little jolt. And then I woke up to a white roof surrounded by beeping equipment, and realized that it was all a dream.
