Chapter 1 - Fleur pourrie

As far as I can tell, I'm not a good individual, from the moment I was born until now I've cursed people, many people. Like paper that slowly burns and then turns to black ash and is thrown into the trash can, one by one, piece by piece. It's easy to destroy someone's life, just as it's easy to tear a paper and then throw it in the bin, again a similar example.

In my current life experience, everything is just a roller coaster of events. Birth, school, career choice, marriage, and then you die. And after that, the same thing and the same thing again. The same pattern continues for centuries.

But deep down I know that we humans want to enjoy life to the fullest. We just don't know how to do it right. We catch ourselves saying, "Oh, look at them, they've a good life with wealth," even though they don't know what's going on in their lives.

As my great-grandfather used to say, we're only puppets and only care about ourselves. But when an unexpected and cruel event occurs, only then will we join forces.

This is how it was in December 1986, after a great experiment of the Soviet Union, when a virus plundered everything. Screaming people in the streets, abandoned children and people dying of hunger. There was chaos all over the world.

And as I said, the only time we joined forces was after a year of this tragic event, we created a facility. We got the proper supplies for our survival.

Deep down I believe that everyone cares about themselves, and I'm no exception. I'll not lie. I care for myself. I want to live; I want to end this situation, and when it ends, I'd lie on the beach, with a cocktail in my hand, observing the sea, in peace and without disturbance.

Chapter 1: Fleur pourrie

November,1986

I was standing in front of my wife's grave, along with the raindrops that kept falling on her grave and staining it. My black hat turned dark blue from the rain, and my shoes were filled with water.

I bent over the grave to let out a few cold, reddish flowers. The marble had faded so that my wife's name was no longer visible.

Suddenly, a tear dripped from my eye and finished its way to my cheek, where it fell to the ground and formed a mark. I decided to leave and immediately went to the car as the rain became heavier.

It's a way to get home. I was living alone in a miserable apartment. I also had a daughter, but she'd have the classic university life. Before she left, I managed to give her some money for her living expenses.

She just barely said goodbye to her father, and after that her father never saw her again.

I wasn't the person who cared about his family. I was a ruthless person and nasty. I didn't have a good childhood, a hard childhood, you could say.

After a few years I found a girl; I fell in love and married her. You know the pattern of how it goes.

Finn Miller, it said on my doorbell. But it was torn and rusty, like my department, but only the rusty part.

I stripped down and was ready to take a hot bath while I drank a cold beer. That was my favorite combination of things. My wife kept telling me that it was weird, but I didn't care.

It was what I liked, and no one could tell me to change that habit.

I filled the bathtub with soap and water and then got in, leaving splashes on the floor. I relaxed and then decided to write a letter to my daughter.

Just out of curiosity, of course, I could not care for her anymore. I just wanted her to know that she had a parental figure called "Father".

Dear Claire,

I know I was a careless father. I was clearly unconcerned, and you could tell that by the way I acted. When you were born I was so happy, but when things got worse with your mother and me, I got tired of everything, including you.

Sometimes I feel stupid, and that's how I must feel. I am not a good person. I never was.

I only did things to please myself; I never thought about other people, only myself because I am obsessed. I always felt that I was smarter, better, yeah BETTER.

Even now I feel that I am better.

And I will write it in line. I hate you. I hope you burn in hell when you die.

You stupid child, just die, fucking piece of shit, brainless creature.

With love, your hellish father.

I stopped writing as I smudged a part of the letter.

I got out of the bathtub and stood in front of the mirror as I lit a cigarette.

"I have nothing in common with you, heh," I said, making a gesture.

Suddenly I remembered that I had a bat in the basement, so I decided to go down and get it. Meanwhile, I was all naked. I went down to my rusty basement and found my bat.

I went back up the stairs and went into the bathroom. I took a deep breath and then hit the mirror with the bat. I kept hitting it like a madman, hitting it so hard that there was no debris left at all, but my feet were full of little pieces of glass.

"I am fine," I muttered to myself as I walked down the stairs to sit in my chair and watch my favorite show.

Suddenly the doorbell rang, it was my stupid neighbor. I walked up to the door and asked what he wanted.

"Is everything alright?" He said in a husky voice.

"Everything is fine, nothing happened, go home," I called, and then returned to my armchair.

Before going to sleep, I had a wild desire to fuck a woman. So I got dressed and went in search of a stray bitch.

It was raining outside, so it would be easy to get one at my house.

I spotted a woman with black hair and two braids wearing a brown coat with a sexy skirt and red heels.

I couldn't wait to bring her to my house.

"Hey beautiful, do you want to come to my house?" I asked as I approached her in my car.

"Oh my, you're so tender, can I really come over?" She asked in a slutty voice.

I opened the door for her without giving an answer, and she'd no choice but to get in.

I drove her back up to my house. We went inside, but first I poured a bottle of wine. I wanted to start slowly.

"This wine is so delicious," she declared.

"What's your name? You didn't tell me" I asked her.

"My name is Rebecca, how about yours sir?"

"My name is Finn Miller and I really want something from you."

She looked at me curiously as I approached her. As I got closer, I grabbed her by her coat and pulled it off. I gave her a sensual hug while I tried to take off her other clothes.

I carried her off her bottom and went to my room. I laid her on the bed and took off her heels first.

Then I took off her blue underwear and was ready to start the preliminary procedure. I couldn't wait any longer and started to undress.

Rebecca got closer to my molecule and started licking it. After ten minutes I put her down hard and started buggering her.

I was so confident and proud of myself but… something was off and that was me. I wasn't myself. Finn Miller wouldn't do such things. That's why…

...

The next morning.

I woke up and saw myself with clothes on and no woman next to me. I went up the stairs and looked in the mirror. It wasn't broken after all.

I hadn't written a letter to my daughter either.

I was so confused by what I'd just seen that I couldn't concentrate at all.

"So it was all a dream?" I asked myself in front of my mirror.

I looked at the date, and it was the first day of December. I turned on the TV to watch the news, and suddenly the same message came on all the channels.

"Lethal Virus is spreading fast"

"Soviet Union is cursed"

"Crazy experiment in the Soviet Union"

"The world is in hell"

At first I couldn't believe all this shit. I thought it was just propaganda. I decided to call my brother, who lived in Texas, to ask him about it.

"Hey, have you seen the news? It sounds crazy, doesn't it?"

"F-finn, just run away," My brother said, hanging up the phone.

"Chris? Chris? What the hell? " I kept asking myself.

I approached the window and saw that there were tons of fires in the city. I immediately went to my room and packed the only important things in a bag.

After that, I went downstairs to my basement to get my bat and a gun I'd got from the army.

"This can't be happening, this can't be happening".

I looked at the news again and there was no signal. The websites said that the virus was spreading so fast.

Even the scientists couldn't explain what was happening.

I took my things and left my house, locked the door and got into the car. My destination was California. There was the place where my daughter lived.

I grabbed my phone as fast as I could and called my daughter as I drove off. The street was full of debris and fire, people running around, screaming, abandoned children. The scenery was just tragic.

"Please answer it" I kept telling myself, but nothing happened.

Suddenly I saw people trying to ram some cars. I couldn't believe this was happening.

Other people were trying to eat a body. The road was full of blood.

I pressed the gas pedal as hard as I could. I wanted to escape from this shithole. But everywhere there was an obstacle.

The worst happened when a truck came towards my car, making it spin in the air and fall on the ground.

Was I unconscious for a Minutes? Hours? I didn't know, when I opened my eyes I was so dizzy I couldn't see clearly. I tried to bang on the door to get out because I was stuck in the car.

While I was trying to open the door, I heard voices behind me. I turned around and saw a strange creature with sharp teeth trying to grab me.

The damn door wouldn't open, I tried many times, but nothing. This creature managed to break the rear car door and was ready to grab me. Luckily for me, I'd have my gun in my pocket, but it was difficult to get it.

I managed to grab it and aim it at the monster's head.

"Okay, buddy, don't panic, just shoot the fucking thing," I said and pulled the trigger.

My face was covered in blood after I shot the monster. After that I managed to get out of the car. I pushed the body away and saw that everything was burning again.

I climbed on top of my car and the next thing I saw was a lot of these monsters trying to approach me.

"What the hell?" I articulated as I put my gun back in my pocket.

Promptly, I heard the sound of a car coming towards me. I couldn't make out who was driving the car, but I decided to approach them. They'd probably help me.

The car stopped in front of me and a person with a black helmet got out.

'I think we found him, Claire" A femine voice sounded.

"Claire? That's my daughter. Hey, who're you?" I asked.

"Relax buddy, just get in the car and let's get out of here".

"Tell me who you're first."

"We don't have time to introduce ourselves, just get in."

I looked behind me, and the gaggle of monsters were coming at me aggressively.

"Tch, fine," I said, and got into the car.

The woman took off her helmet and introduced herself to me with a handshake.

"My name is Eugene, nice to meet you, Finn Miller"
