Chubin had a smiling face at her, but he had already lifted up a hand, and the smacking he gave her, sent her flying so far a distance that the other lady in the gothic dress had to step in and catch her before she reached the ground.

Even though he had said those words in a smile, his eyes were not at all smiling.
