Chapter 32 - Chapter Thirty-One - New Beginnings

Two Months Later

Staring out of the window, Tyler struggled to contain his excitement, his face glowing with joy.

"Are you going to stare out of the window all day?" Roxy asked, handing him a hot cup of tea. She couldn't help but feel excitement herself; the aspect of their first car was almost too much to handle, but she kept her composure much better than Tyler.

"I can't help it! I can't wait to show you this new toy of ours! I've never felt so excited in my life!" Tyler turned to Roxy for a split second, taking his eyes off the outside street. "You're telling me that you aren't excited?"

"Of course I'm excited! I think you'll be waiting a while, is all." Roxy explained thoughtfully. Roxy stared into Tyler's eyes, relishing in the idea that he was like a child at Christmas. But a shallow knock came from the front door just as she told him. Tyler's face lit up like a lamp as he rushed to the front door, swinging it open with force whilst Roxy shuffled behind him, attempting to keep up.

Tyler's joyful face turned to disappointment when he opened the door to find Thomas standing in front of him, dressed in his school uniform; his shirt and blazer creased at the seams. He stood tall and proud in the door frame, waiting to be let in.

"Well, don't look too happy to see me then!" Thomas joked, pushing past Tyler to enter his house. "Hey, Roxy! You look amazing!" Thomas tried flattery to lighten the mood, noticing their faces turned frowns.

"It's not you, man. We are just excited to see the car. We've been waiting all morning. This is the first time I've left the window all day!" Tyler explained, taking a sip of his tea. He offered Thomas a drink, to which Thomas refused, wanting to get to the issue at hand.

"I have some news that may interest you if that sparks anything? Of course, it's not the best news, but it's about the Werewolf." Thomas sounded distant, like he didn't honestly want to discuss.

"Lay it on us. Anything could stop this carnage at this point. But, unfortunately, we've all drawn blanks."

"I think Robert is the Werewolf. Now stay with me." Thomas could see the fear in Tyler's eyes, "I have been assessing the crime scenes, and each one has left a body. My first theory was that the Werewolf slew Robert, but there would've been a body, much like the others. But nothing. So I dug deeper. These attacks started a week after Robert disappeared. Now it's just a theory, but I think you and I should hit up the old crime scenes and see if the cops missed anything." Thomas explained, waiting for Tyler or Roxy to shoot the theory down. Thomas wished that was the case; he was thinking like a crazy person so he wouldn't have to face reality.

"Let me stop you right there." Tyler began. He watched Thomas show relief before continuing, "I can't help out on this one, but I think you are on the right track. There's something strange about the times. I've been given a mission by the High Council, but maybe after I complete—" Roxy cut Tyler off before he could finish.

"What if I help out? There won't be much running around, surely? Nor much danger so I could always have a look with you? The sooner we look around, the better; I imagine the cops have already cleaned up the crime scene. However, I've got some things I need to look into, Hunter business, but that shouldn't take too long."

Thomas looked at Tyler, almost asking for his permission, "Wow. So you guys realise that A. The crime scene has already been cleaned, and B. There is a Werewolf running around still. Yet you're both running errands for the Hunter Guild?" Thomas' voice became chilling yet considerate.

"I don't see why not." Tyler began, "Besides, you could do with some work to get you back into the field. It's been a while since you've done any Hunter work. As for our business, we still pledged our diligence to them, which comes with responsibilities whether we like them or not."

"Guys, when will you see that the Hunters aren't a good society? The sooner you break from them, the better for everyone, especially you two and the baby." Thomas attempted to explain.

Suddenly, the room filled with a roar. Then, before anyone spoke another word, the sound of a tremendous engine caused Tyler to shoot out of his chair and sprint to the front door. A smile grew across his face as he saw the beauty of what he had bought now arrive.

"Guys, it's here!" He called, walking out to receive his keys from the delivery driver.

Thomas was the first to leave, with Roxy following behind as best she could.

The car was a Sky Blue BMW M5 Competition and a sight to see. It was a beast to drive with eight cylinders, 625bhp and 750nm. The interior was black with a red lining. A carbon fibre trim laced the car like a tight dress, and the rims were bright silver alloys, making the car stand out from the crowd. Little did they know how many escapes the car would save them from, nor how much the vehicle would become a part of their growing family.

Roxy walked around the car, looking at everything from the vented bonnet to the chrome exhausts. Unable to form a sentence, she finally resorted to creating noises of awe.

"This car is incredible, Tyler! You exceeded my expectations! How much did it cost?" Roxy questioned, but Tyler avoided the question, looking over to Thomas, who was gob-smacked.

"Everything okay, Thomas?" Tyler asked, laughing at the sight.

"This car costs more than most people can afford in their lifetime! How did you get the money for this?" Thomas asked.

"The Hunters pay well. We saved most of it, keeping it in our back pocket for special occasions or emergencies." Tyler explained, showing Thomas his bank statement on his phone.

"Jesus Christ, Tyler! I never thought I would say this, but how can I join?" Thomas joked, nudging Tyler's side mockingly.

"How about we take it for a spin?" Tyler asked, " I think it's time for school, don't you?" In agreeance, Roxy quickly climbed into the passenger seat, squeezing inside the low bucket seat. The footwells were roomy, giving plenty of space for Roxy to squeeze her seemingly ever-growing bump comfortably.

Tyler stepped on the throttle; the engine roared while the onboard computer booted up, letting out a tuneful chime. Revving the engine, Tyler looked over at Roxy with a growing smile, matching her impressed expression. He launched the car into first gear and began flying down the road at an alarming rate, picking up speed at an impressive pace.

Arriving at the school, students of all years and their teachers began flocking around the car, staring in awe as the impressive vehicle slowed and parked neatly in a space. The trio hastily exited before being ambushed with questions from most of the students. Before answering, Tyler noticed his tutor, Mr Meyers, was standing away from the crowd, just out of view. He pushed past the group leaving Roxy and Thomas to be flocked by the students like a raft of ducks.

"Mr Meyers!" Called Tyler, who was jogging over to him. "You can come to see the car if you like? Skulking around the trees here is a bit creepy!" Tyler laughed as he told.

"Tyler. When I told you to buy things for the baby, I meant a cot, not a new car!" Mr Meyers joked, now standing in front of Tyler. "That is a thing of beauty, though. Did your mother buy it for you?"

"No, Roxy and I have been saving for a while and decided to splash out a bit. The motorbike was too risky to buy a car seat on." Tyler turned back to look at Roxy, smiling.

"But I mean, the insurance alone must be insane. You are eighteen, driving a car that's better than mine! What's your secret!" Mr Meyers asked.

"Get a well-paying job and save like you have the whole world behind you. That's all there was to it."

"Well, you know what they say: those who can't work, teach. And those who can't teach, teach P.E. Roxy seems to be getting on okay with the pregnancy. She looks excited about it."

"She definitely is, and so am I. I can't wait for this chapter to finally start." Tyler said, looking back at Roxy again, pondering how he could have been so lucky.
