Chapter 31 - Sunshine in the Morning

"You know what will be really cool?" Marnia she says to him one day. Before looking up at the sky above them at the boat. She says to him, "To fly in the sky and soar above the clouds."

He looks at her strangely, as though he has heard the strangest thing from her yet. He grabs one of the barbecued meat that she had done into his mouth. Looking up at the sky, it just seems so calm yet.

Has the sky always been that beautiful, or was it just that he had not given the chance to notice it before? He suddenly remembered those times when he was back in the village with his brothers. During those times, the sky does seem to be quite sunny, according to his memories.

"What's so special about flying?" Leo asked her, he said to her casually, "If you want to fly so bad I can just send you up there in the sky. And doesn't your devil fruit allow you to do something like that? Produce glass stairs of the sky?"

"Yeah, but there is something different about having a pair of wings. It is just different," she says to him before closing her eyes and enjoying the blowing wind across their boat.

...

On the bed, Leo opens his eyes. The surrounding was that of a room that he had paid for on an island.

Remembering that dream a sudden second ago, he looked to his side to see that Marnia was still asleep on his arm. Her soft black hair tingles his arm as he moves his arm slowly from underneath her head, since she was using his arm as her pillow. He drapes the blanket again above her shoulders.

Standing up from the bed, he walked towards the window that close by and see the winter landscape out there. The floor of the island was magically covered by a layer of snow as the villagers crosses the streets, leaving behind footprints.

He noticed that the islanders seem to be celebrating something today. It started to look like a Christmas celebration to him, and they were hanging all sorts of things on a big tree in the middle of the town square.

It was the sound of the soft echo from the bells and their laughter that woke him up. The children are hugging their parents as they continue home with bags of food in their hands.

"Isn't it so nice," Leo whispers to himself. His breath creates a small fog on the glass of the window as he continued to look down at the street from his room on the second floor.

He went out of his room to get some food in the inn downstairs, and sees all these people wearing their jackets sitting together to dine at their tables.

"Daddy, can we go hear the choirs singing outside?" He hears a kid nearby saying to his father as he sits alone at his table eating from his plate of food that he grabbed from the breakfast table.

Finishing the last bite of the bagel in his hand, he followed after the guests at the inn, who were leaving to be part of the large celebration outside. Opening the door, he steps foot outside and feels the snowflakes landing lightly on his face.

There wasn't any coldness for him in this climate, since his physique is already beyond human. But it is a gorgeous sight of winter as he follows the direction where everyone is going. He finds a spot where the snow has not touched and stood there watching everyone celebrating the end of a year.

He didn't know how long he had already stood there, hearing the music in the background and seeing the couples dancing in the middle. It was just quite festive.

While he was watching them, he saw Marnia by herself with a smile on her face as she opens her hands to feel the frost of the snowflakes landing on her fingers. She just seems so happy as she enjoys the beauty of winter.

"Perhaps she doesn't need wings," Leo says to himself, he was not too far away from her. "She already has them."

While she was being amazed at the sight of snow here, she finds a snowball landing on her face and hears Leo who threw the snowball at her having a glorious laughter.

Wiping the snow away from her face, she sees Leo with a big smile as he sees how silly she looks when she is annoyed at him.

"Hey, there asshole," Marnia smiles and rolls her at his silly joke on her. She grabs some snow from the ground and throws it at him, but he was able to easily maneuver his body from touching them. "That's not fair! You have to stay still, so I can get even at you. Why does this jerk have to be so good at dodging?"

Since she couldn't get her way, she decided to give up from throwing snowballs towards him. Leo watches as she has a funny grin on her face as she walks towards him while looking at him in the eyes. He thought that she was about to do some other prank at him.

When she was finally so close to him, she looked up at him with a smile and giving him a tight hug. She seemed to like glued to him, unwilling to let go despite his pleas.

"Hey, let go. I don't like getting hugs," he said to her, while he didn't seem to show any wants of pushing her away. At this point, he already knew her well enough to know she wouldn't let go of him no matter what.

He looks at him straight in the eyes, then says to him, "Nope, I'm not letting go. This is what you get for throwing a snowball at me today."

'Fine, I don't want you to let go of me anyway,' Leo thought to himself, turning his head away to hide the little smile on his face.
