Alissia smiled and ignored the little brat as she wiped his face. When she was done, she rung the towels out the best she could before setting them and the water aside. Only then did she turn to the young boy and ask: "So are you going to tell me your name or should I call you little brat?"
"It's Billy…" The young boy replied through gritted teeth, he didn't like being referred to as a brat.
"Well, Billy, My name is Alissia, and from this moment on, you and your sister will be under my care as my little brother and sister. I promise from now on. You two will never have to worry about food or a roof over your head. You can finally be kids." Alissia said while reaching out, rubbing the top of Billy's head.
Billy could only stare blankly at Alissia. He never expected this person who had happened to appear out of nowhere to save him to suddenly make him and his sister part of her family like it was nothing. He did not understand why this person would go so far for orphans like him and his sister. He couldn't help but be suspicious. It all seemed too good to be true. "Why? Why are you doing this?"
"Why?" Alissia thought for a moment before smiling and saying: "Because I was once like you."
Alissia was not lying. She was just like Billy. She grew up in the slums and had to struggle to survive. That kind of life was not easy. But even so, she made sure everything she did to make what little money he could was done legally. He never wanted to go down the path of a villain.
"Anyway. From this moment on, you are now Jill and Bill Greyworth and part of my Greyworth family."
"Big Sister, will Jill really not have to go hungry anymore? Will Big Brother be able to eat and not just say he already ate?" Jill's big watery eyes looked at Alissia. They were filled with hope, a hope for a better life not just for her but for her Big Brother, who she loved dearly.
Alissia smiled safely and hugged the little girl. "You can. You and your brother will have normal lives. You can grow up healthy and have a life full of nothing but good memories. From now on, you will be my siblings, and I will be sure to protect you both."
The little girl's eyes welled up with tears as she hooked her arms around Alissia's neck and began crying. She never thought that she would ever get a chance to leave the slums. She worried every day about her brother, who went out to try to find food for her. She had seen her brother getting skinnier and skinnier. She has heard his stomach growling, but he always said he was fine. She was afraid, afraid her brother would end up like her mother
Bill stared at Alissia and his sister, who was crying into and holding on to the strange person's neck. He wondered if he could actually trust this person to keep her words. He wondered if his sister could finally be able to live a life without starving or the danger of being kidnapped and sold off. He could care less about himself. He only cared for his sister's happiness.
"Miss, your skewers." The old man walked over with a plate full of skewers and placed it on the table. When he saw how caring Alissia was towards the two orphan children, he couldn't help but take pity on them and smile at the heartwarming scene he had just witnessed. The young girl was not averse to hugging the dirty children and was willing to even take them in as her own family. Such a person was truly an angel to those two children. "They are on the house."
Alissia looked at the old man and smiled. But she still took out a gold coin and handed it to the old man. "I thank you for the offer, but it is already amazing enough that you allowed me some water and to use your towels. You work hard every day, so please use this."
The old man saw the golden coin and his impression of Alissia became even more profound. He pushed the gold coin back to her and shook his head. "Take it as this old man trying to help these kids. Good deeds will beget good deeds. This old man is old and has no means of helping children like this. This is the least I can do."
Alissia smiled and did not push the coin onto the old man. She did not want to force him into anything. "Then I thank you."
The old man waved her off and went back behind the counter of his stall. Alissia picked up a skewer and handed it to Billy before picking up another and giving it to Jill. "You two eat but eat slowly. If you eat too fast, it will be bad for your stomachs."
Both kids nodded and did as they were told. But as soon as they sunk their teeth into the hot skewer, tears began to flow from both their eyes. Alissia only smiled and watched from the side. She could not save everyone, but these kids had crossed her path. As if fate had brought them together.
After they ate, Alissia packed up the leftover skewers and brought them to a store, where she got some clothes for them to wear. She then asked for directions to an inn, where she then got a room with a bathroom in it and dragged the little kids into the bath. However, there was a bit of a fuss when it came to Billy. "What are you doing, strip!"
"I can take a bath by myself!" Billy yelled out while holding on to his clothes as if his life depended on it.
"We don't have time for this!" Alissia yelled out as she ripped the poor boy's clothes off and then picked him up and dunked him in the hot bath water. She could care less for his insecurities. " Wash your body while I help your sister. I will wash your hair after." She then proceeded to help Jill wash her hair. This actually reminded her of when she was young in her past life. The kids he ran with in those days would use buckets of rain water to wash themselves. To her those early days were not half bad. But as they grew older, some kids went down the wrong path or died. But that was just how life was back then.
