Chapter 5 - Adventurers guild

Drake stared at the cracking cube, which began to dissolve under his touch. He was confused as he was not sure what to expect. Suddenly, the cube vanished and instead of it, in his hand was a fantastic dagger that was so light that it felt like cardboard. It was engraved with golden runes and had a strange hilt symbol, making Drake curious. He examined the dagger closer and noticed another symbol on the blade which looked like a dragon.

"System, tell me about this dagger," Drake asked. He held the blade up to the light, and it shined back just as dazzlingly.

The system's notification appeared before Drake's face.

[This blade was created by ancient elven civilisation hundreds of thousands of years ago, although only the elven race and deities were aware of its existence, it was stolen by the dark dragon soon after it was created and was stored in the forbidden library. The blade contains the power to turn itself into any weapon or object. This particular weapon, called the Heaven Slayer, can destroy or repair anything it touches. If it is stolen, it returns to its current master, you.]

"Amazing!" Drake exclaimed. He held the dagger, and its blade disappeared, leaving only the handle he put inside his pocket; and after that, he went back to the city. He wandered around until he saw a building with many stories and the sign of an adventurer's guild written in big letters above its door.

"Lucky!~" Drake smiled despite not being able to find a clothing store. He knew from books and movies that this is the first place people should go to find themselves a job.

Drake opened the door and entered, and walked towards the reception room. He was immediately greeted by a young girl with purple hair and blue eyes.

"Good afternoon, sir! I am guild receptionist Sarah!" the woman said cheerily. She wore her name tag that said 'Sarah' and was dressed in an elegant red dress. "Can I help you"

Drake blinked while staring at her clothes, feeling a little embarrassed. His clothes were burnt and worn out from his transformation during the night. He thought he would look stupid if anyone saw him walking around wearing this, but he had no other choice.

"Yes," Drake answered politely, smiling shyly. "I'm looking for a job,"

"Are you an adventurer?" Sarah questioned, and when Drake shook his head, she continued, "Then you're in luck because we have a few spots for a newbie to join! Sign this!" she said, taking a piece of paper and pen. "The test will be on Tuesday!"

Drake took the paper from her hands and read the content carefully. "In case of death or injury, the guild is not responsible," Drake mumbled. "I see. So this can be dangerous."

It seemed he was not talking loud enough for Sarah to hear him. "Sorry, sir. I couldn't hear you! Would you repeat the question?"

Drake decided to drop the subject and asked the more important question. "When is Tuesday?" He had no idea what day it was. "And... could I buy clothes here?"

Sarah chuckled softly. "Tuesday is tomorrow, silly! And yes, go talk to that old geezer." She pointed at the dwarf behind Drake to where he could go, and he walked off to do as he was told.

Drake passed through the corridors of the Guildhall, passing by the rows of people who worked there. Most were older men and women, but some young people and women worked for the guild. The place was very lively.

Drake reached the front desk. An elderly dwarf with a bushy beard was sitting there, staring at something on his computer. Drake cleared his throat, causing the dwarf to look up.

"Excuse me..." Drake started awkwardly. "Uh..."

"Ahh, yes! Welcome! How may I help you?" the dwarf said, getting up and greeting Drake with a friendly smile.

"Um... Well... I need new clothes." Drake stated. "Can you help me?"

Drake was surprised when he was suddenly engulfed in a bone-crushing hug. "Of course, old Simon can help!" the dwarf asked, loosening his grip. "Don't worry, don't worry!"

With a smile on his face, Drake followed the dwarf to the back of the Guild Hall and to a large wardrobe hanging open. There were a ton of plate armours, cloth robes inside, and even a small amount of leather jackets and boots. Drake pointed his finger at leather jackets, but the dwarf shook his head.

"We can do better than those simple robes!" the dwarf said and pulled out amazing leather outfits.

Drake nodded slowly, watching the dwarf figure out how best to fit each outfit. He picked out one of them, which he had to admit looked quite lovely, but he wasn't sure if he should wear it during fights. As he asked about this, the dwarf gave him a strange look.

"Of course, they will be comfortable during fights," the dwarf explained. "We sell armours, not regular clothes."

"Sorry," Drake said quickly, feeling that he might have insulted a dwarf. Soon he found something that caught his eye, a blood-red leather jacket, black pants, and shiny black boots. It was a bit too extravagant for his tastes, but he liked it and wanted to try it.

"Not for sale."

Drake's mouth dropped open, and he stood rooted in the spot. It was almost impossible to tell whether he was hurt or angry, but the way he held the clothes he had chosen and shook his head meant something. It made Drake feel highly annoyed.

"Why?!" Drake asked angrily.

"Well, why don't you try them on," Simon suggested.

He led Drake to the dressing room and helped him with the jacket and pants.

"They are perfect!" Drake exclaimed. The jacket hugged his body tightly, and the pants allowed Drake to move freely without tucking in pants. He was so happy he could dance in the middle of the room.

"Huh?!" the dwarf's jaw dropped. "Do you have a fire immunity by any chance?"

Drake blinked. "What?"

"You heard me!" the dwarf said. "Do you have a fire immunity?" he repeated.

"No", Drake replied. "I mean, I don't know."

Simon's jaw still dropped. "I can't believe it! These clothes are imbued with fire magic. While it does enhance fire-type magic, it constantly burns the user."

"Oh?" a slight grin appeared on Drake's face. He liked that sound, especially when his primary fighting type was fire magic. "Well then, I'll take these!"
