Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

"Well." she began. "I was out hunting in the woods by the river. I had this big hare; I had been hunting him all afternoon. Of course, I had other food too because he was mine." She looked at the sheets as she talked. "Well I had hit him pretty hard on the flank and he had slowed a little. That's when he went crossed the river, I was upset and stopped at the edge and watched as he limped slowly away. It's like he knew I could not cross the river." She looked at me then back at the bed. "As I stood there watching the hare getaway, I heard paws coming up behind me. I turned to see Blake, Karen, Mark, James, and Hannah. 'Going to join that little bitch?' Hannah asked me. I was stunned that she would say that. 'Kat is not a bitch.' I protested to her. 'She betrays us.' Blake growled. 'From the looks of it, you will too.' His voice was so hard, Kat." Bela had started to cry. Kyle moved to comfort her. "Blake was growling at me when Hannah made the first move, she pushed me, and I stumbled. Next thing I knew they were all attacking me. All but Blake that is. He just stood there. They took turns biting me and clawing at me. 'That's enough.' Blake barked to them and they all turned and left me there. I crawled slowly to the river hoping to make it across and to you Kat or at least someone who could help or end it." Bela's voice was soft. Kyle hugged her close with carefulness. I had never seemed from my ex beta. He was being so gentle with her. Kyle's eyes were clouded with pain and anger. Alex stood in the doorway quietly. I walked over to him and pushed my face into his chest.

"How could an alpha do this to his pack member, his female beta nonetheless?" I whispered with tears escaping my eyes. I was truly lost. 'Blake had been a very reasonable alpha. He would never do this, or so I thought. I know Bela was telling the truth because there was no other scent but the packs' scent there. There were no unfamiliar scents at the border. Blake had turned in his own beta female, but why? What else was he willing to do if he thought his beat female was leaving? Would he kill members of his own pack? All because of what, me leaving? Others following me to my new pack? Was Blake snapping? Was he no longer fit to lead my family's pack? I needed to figure this out. I needed to find a way to have a spy in my old pack, but how. Kyle was not going to leave. The others were mad at me, all but Jay. Maybe if I got him to come here and see Bela, he would believe me and want to help us figure out why Blake would allow and do this to his pack mates. This was going to be a long shot, but I hope that our friendship is as strong as I have always believed it to be. I hope Jay will allow me to ask him to come into an unknown land of his rival pack, nonetheless. Then again Kyle did. He found his way to me and Bela.' My mind had been racing since Bela finished her story and had ended up crying herself to sleep in Kyle's arms. I could tell Kyle wanted to talk but he would have to wake Bela to do that. Bela has made it to where she had fallen asleep on Kyle's chest. She clung to him like he had not seen him in years. Her body twitched every so often. I knew it was nightmares coming to her. She would make mewling sounds and whimper slightly, but each time Kyle would rub her back gently and she would settle down and relax. After a while of watching her, I decided I needed to get all of us something to eat and drink. When I left the room, I saw Kim and Paul sitting in the living room. Clair was asleep in her mother's arms.

"Paul, Kim, you guys should have gone home." I walked towards them, I watched as Paul rose.

"How is the girl?" His question was full of worry as if the werewolf laying in the guest too was not a rival pack member.

"She is doing fine. She explained what happened and She is asleep now, well on her mate's arms right now." I smiled at the picture of Bela sleeping on Kyle's chest in the bed.

"That is good. I am glad she is ok. Kim, we can go now." Paul looked at his wife and walked over to her and took his sleeping daughter from her. She rose next to him. Her eyes were drifting closed with each passing second. She smiled sleepily at me and they left the house. I walked to the kitchen and started to look for something that everyone could eat. I decided on vegetable soup and peanut-butter sandwiches. I grabbed the pitcher of sweet tea and put all the things we would need in the cart that was meant for serving food to guests and pushed it to the room when I entered Kyle and Alex looked at me and I could hear them drool over the food. It's a good thing I made enough to feed a whole army. Those two boys ate enough to kill a cow. I ate slowly and very little Bela had moved off Kyle before I brought the food in and she was curled up and fast asleep. I watched my best friend lay in that bed all broken and torn to pieces. Her body would twitch, and she would make noises and I would move to comfort her. I lay next to her and rubbed her in between the shoulder blades, and she did not move. My eyes fluttered open the next morning. Bela was still fast asleep, and Kyle was on the floor passed out. His soft snoring told me he was not waking up for a while. I looked around for Alex, but I could not see him in the room. I slowly got up and went to find him.
