ARC: ROMANTIC ASSASSINS
1000 years, 1000 stories, 1000 regrets, 1000 mistakes, and 1 day, 1 story, 1 redemption, and 1 solution to end it all.
As people grow, they change, and however much they hate the idea, it's crucial in the game of life. Without growth and change, people would be nothing less than existences, there would be nothing distinguishing us from animals, plants, or fungus doing their job in the food chain.
Everything on the current Gaia we live in is an existence. Humans are not human, humans are back to the primitive ways that evolution fought so hard to get rid of.
This all happened because of mass destruction, the mass destruction that I watched happen and had no power to stop.
Now I stare into the eyes of death each passing day as I try to turn back time and fix my mistakes of the past.
I entered my room. It was quite spacious, with a screen –which we call a holoscreen- hovering over each wall, a black wooden bed with grey beddings, a bonsai tree at the back of my bed, and a grey and white marble floor. It's so shameful of me to live in luxury when there is an apocalypse above the land.
I put on a white suit, which seemed to be the only clothes Seven would make for me. I activated my holo-computer and started searching for any overnight signals.
A life of death, destruction, caution, and misadventure. That is the life Oktober lives.
[ALERT! CAUTION! DANGER! ALERT! CAUTION!] started appearing on my screen. Panic filled me as I rushed out of my room.
"EVERYONE, OUT OF YOUR ROOMS IT'S A RED ALERT!" I announced and they rushed out too.
"WHAT?"
"How did this happen?"
"We have to fix it."
Everyone was evidently in panic so we all rushed down the hall with four of us heading to the main lab. "Activate the defense shield and make sure it has not got in, scan the perimeter and make sure there are no sanguine!" I ordered and they all headed to different workspaces as the room was blaring with red lights and the words alert, danger, and caution swimming in the air.
"The pipes are unstable and broken and aside from that I can't seem to find the other problem." She said as she frantically tapped away on the holo-computer. No, this can't be happening.
[ALERT! CAUTION! DANGER! ALERT! CAUTION! DANGER!]
"One, any traces of the fruit?"
I was on the central computer turning on the scanning device and laser.
[LASERS UNSTABLE! CRITICAL DAMAGE DETECTED! LASERS UNSTAB-]
"No sir, there are no waves at all, the tree seems to have already transmigrated." He said from behind me.
No, it's too soon. Have we failed?
You're probably wondering why everyone is in panic right now.
It all started eons ago with a girl named Zitarah Reeves.
............…..
Zitarah was walking to school, the blue sun high in the sky shooting hot beams all over the planet and at the umbrella, she was under. It was the summer of Gaia, so hot that sunscreen alone wouldn't save you.
Her feet made quiet taps on the paved sidewalk with every step she took. The hedges to her right were trimmed to perfection separating the road from someone's property.
Suddenly, a certain black-haired guy appeared out of the bushes a distance behind her.
'She's going to be so surprised when she sees me. I should probably get out of this heat first.' He thought to himself as he got excited and wiped the sweat trickling down his eyebrow.
He snuck under her umbrella which surely surprised her. "Hey sweet cheeks, I'm back." He announced excitedly and suddenly her eyes turned cold and menacing.
"You nincompoop, what the heck is your problem? How can you walk in this weather without an umbrella!" She said furiously as she kicked him in the shin.
"Ow ow, okay, I'm sorry. It won't happen again." He said immediately regretting his decision as he knelt on the ground wincing in pain.
"You're lucky I'm using a big umbrella today." She said holding a hand out for him.
He stood up looking at her with a smile once again- Kio didn't have the mental capacity to stay mad at his girlfriend for long.
She motioned for him to bend over so she could look at his face since she was no taller than his shoulder level. She grimaced as she looked at his sunburn "Now look, you've already got burnt by the sun." She sighed.
He was secretly happy that she cared so he smiled softly looking down at her.
She extended his face close to hers to get a proper look at the pink spots of sunburn. "Your face is really red, we have to put some ointment on it or else you'll go to school looking like a dairy cow." she cupped his face in her hands.
They walked to the nearest shed and Zitarah put the sunburn ointment on his face.
"Perfect!" she exclaimed with a smile as she looked at his shiny face.
"Are you sure I'm not too shiny?" he asked worriedly looking at the unclear mirror in the shed.
"Nope." She said with a tone that made him doubt her words.
"Sure?" he asked again and got the same answer.
'Did she really not miss me at all?' he thought to himself but then Zitarah leaned back and spoke.
"So how was the flight?"
"It was alright."
There was an awkward silence after that but the Zitarah spoke again.
"I thought you were arriving during the weekend."
"I took an early flight."
He said with an awkward smile and Zita nodded awkwardly.
'Saysomething!Saysomething!Saysomething!' Zitarah was currently panicking internally because she didn't plan for this to happen.
Zitarah was the type of person who had a plan for everything in her life.
"I planned something over the weekend, could you wait till then?" she finally spoke and Kio sighed then had a smile of relief resting on his face. It finally clicked in his head that she just wasn't prepared for his return.
"Thank you for waiting." He stood up and offered a hand for her as well.
They resumed their walk to school as they shared the umbrella.
"Can I hold your hand?" he asked.
"No, you're holding the umbrella," Zita replied blankly.
"Jealous?"
"Don't start." And just like that, their journey to school progressed and soon they were staring at the school gates to New Berkley High school.
"Wow!" Kio exclaimed at what he saw in front of him as Zitarah had a blank expression of disgust.
There was a horde of girls holding banners and posters with the words "WELCOME BACK OUR DOJO MASTER, KIO."
"WE LOVE YOU."
"WE MISSED YOU KIO KENTARO!" Written in bold letters.
There was confetti and small fireworks being released into the air. The cheerleading squad was doing a uniform dance at the front and the girls from art class held up paintings of him.
From this, it's pretty obvious that Kio was a very popular guy in school.
Kio cared less about his fan club and decided that he might use this situation to his advantage and see Zitarah's reaction.
"Hey Zita, should I go with them?" he asked with an evil smile spread across his face.
The blank-faced Zita replied. "Not a chance, we have class and we're sharing an umbrella."
She truly didn't give a damn about his fan club but found it annoying when they pulled stunts
As long as Zitarah was in her prefect uniform, she took her duties seriously and these girls were holding a gathering at the school entrance- which was against the rules so the only thing she had against them was the defiance of school rules and mockery of her power.
"Students, it's against the rules to hold gatherings at the school entrance." She said with a spiteful grin and looked at them patronizingly striking fear into the hearts of the students.
They quickly scattered leaving their banners and flags behind.
"Evacuate."
"I told you this was a bad idea."
"Shit, I forgot the student body president is his girlfriend."
"I thought they would've broken up by now."
"Oh no, I left the banner."
"Just leave it you wouldn't want her scanning our faces and getting us expelled. Wahhh."
In 0.5 seconds, the area was clear.
"You better run." She said with a menacing smile.
"That's my girl." Kio secretly cheered behind her. "Okay, now the coast is clear. We've got to get to class." She gestured for him to follow her.
They were on their way to class.
The stone path was wide and decorated with black, white, and grey stones all the way. It had green perfectly trimmed short hedges on either side separating it from the grass.
Suddenly, Kio spoke. "Zitarah, how has it been back here."
"You video-called me every day and it's not like I kept something from you."
Kio knew Zitarah didn't like small talk so he mentally cursed himself for even starting.
"On your side, you barely told me about the Northern Kingdom."
Zita didn't want him to feel uncomfortable so she decided to let him talk as she listened.
She enjoyed listening to him talk.
